Geez. So quick to point the finger. He's a rookie who has been hurt most of the season. Do you really expect him to be flawless? Claiborne makes mistakes as well.

Other than a sack surrendered to Spears on a stunt, he was decent in pass protection, mainly providing help to Pouncey. However, he was serving up some major weaksauce in run blocking. He got next to no push on his inline blocks, and both Albright and Conner were easily stacking and shedding him at the point of attack on the second level. Pretty much the same player I saw at Stanford. He needs to get into a weight room and get some lead in his anchor, which is why the Bengals passed on him for the stronger inline mauler and better all around player in Zeitler (who has been very good as a rookie).

Not sure I understand. DeCastro was picked at #24 and Zeitler was picked at #27. I guess you're saying that they wouldn't have traded out of #21 if they wanted DeCastro.
Also, I guess you saying that DeCastro has a weak lower body, because he outweighed Zeitler by 2 lbs and had 2 more bench press reps.

I would still take Claiborne over Decastro(with or without a trade down) and that is all that matters.

You mean in hindsight you would?
Heck, in hindsight I'd take Decastro in the 1st and Casey Heyward in the 2nd....
but that's too easy.

I believe that was his first professional start. He has been out with an injury that he suffered in the preseason.

Bengals OL coach Paul Alexander said they had Zeitler almost the same, but a littler higher, than DeCastro, so they passed on DeCastro, traded down a few spots and picked up Zeitler.
And I also don't put any real credence into bench press in regards to functional football strength. I really don't know why they continue to use it at the Combine rather than any Olympic lift, other than the football/scouting community is a stickler for maintaining status quo and is resistant to change. Some claim counting bench press reps can at least measures muscle endurance and stamina, but as far as that goes I'd rather see how many times a player can swing a 50 lbs. kettle bell and judge muscle stamina and endurance with the trunk and lower body where the game of football is played.

that is exactly what I saw he helped pouncy in pass protection so hard to judge that and was weak run blocking...

Hi Hos
I think the better question is how many times have you seen Romo step up into the pocket. From my memory I see Romo turn around to his left or side step to avoid the rush. This is a good example of the OL not doing the job.

First Glimpse at DeCastro
It’s been a long time coming, but we finally got a good look at one of the most hyped guard prospects in years. David DeCastro played all 62 snaps for the Steelers in this game and played well for the most part. Though he did give up a sack, it was the lone play of pressure all game, despite 45 snaps in pass protection. He formed a formidable pairing with C Maurkice Pouncey as the oft-overrated center gave up just a lone hurry all game. The pair was also impressive run blocking, getting to the second level and moving players away from the point of attack, generating some creases for the Steelers running backs.

Just watching the game right now here thanks to Kilyin.
At best for DeCastro, I guess one can say he played decently against two backups, Spears and Lissemore. We'll get a better indication of how he performs next week vs Cin.
Pgh went heavy on the OL in the draft and basically failed miserably from the early results. DeCastro has not shown much after a serious injury and OT Mike Adams is a project who needs a lot of help and work so far. Very little return on investment for the Stealers so far on their last draft. We'll see what next year brings.

that is the point- romo does not trust the interior of the line to keep a pocket for him to step up in so he does not bother. One case where stats lie.

DeCastro played one game so far. Think I'll give it a little more time. As for Adams he has actually come a long way.

Cordy Glenn was a game-1 starter at LT for the Bills. He missed 3 games in the middle of the season with and ankle injury.

And Adams still has a very long way to go. And there is no reason to believe so far that he will likely get there.
DeCastro has showed very little 15 weeks into the season (one can use the injury excuse). Even before the injury, there were major concerns at camp and he was showing nothing more than backup potential from camp reports.
Bottom line: Both Adams and DeCastro have showed nothing so far that they will definitely be starters next year. Two huge question marks. Time will tell. We'll see what they do next year. But, no doubt, this year the Stealers draft has failed miserably.

Glenn is good-Bills are thrilled with him. They have maybe the best oline in football-too bad the rest of the team sucks.

Starting RG since week 7 (Houston), likely the eventual replacement for Chris Myers at C.
Now I'm not sure how well he's playing, but just looking back at some of our picks, we should've moved up to the late 3rd/early 4th to get him.
I'd gladly trade Kyle Wilbur (our 4th) and Danny Coale (our 5th) for Ben Jones.

I know he didn't set the world on fire in training camp, but he's only played in 2 games, so I'd say it's not even an excuse as much as it's a fact that he was injured.

DeCastro has not played up to the zone hype committee, although the bar was set a bit too high.
Meanwhile back at the Motel, Claiborne is a legit NFL Corner and the Cowboys Oline is playing middle of the pack.
Also with the injury it doesn't appear that DeCastro would have improved this years results on the Oline.
Moreover, with New Orleans and Washington to end the Season, Claiborne.

That sack was not on DeCastro. Ben R ran himself into that and didn't get rid of the ball.

Spears was actually blocked into Roth as Roth tried to escape the pocket. I would not look at it as if Spears beat him. Now if you tie a ham sandwich and a pizza on the QB's back, Spears might be more effective.

If the man succeeds in becoming indifferent to the opinions of his neighbors he runs into another danger, that of a distorted and extravagant self of the pride sort, since by the very process of gaining independence and immunity from the stings of depreciation and misunderstanding, he has perhaps lost that wholesome deference to some social tribunal that a man cannot dispense with and remain quite sane.

I would much rather have Berny, Costa, Livings, Free and Smith, with Dockery and Arkin (give him two more years to round into shape) as back ups, than Pouncey, De Castro, Beachum, Adams, and the rest of the crew that Pitt has....
You can't rush rookie OLmen, you have to give them 3 or 4 years to develop. Just look at Cordy Glennn, and Zeitler, and Konz, and Ben Jones and..... /sarcasm
But seriously, to criticize De Castro on his first game, for giving up one sack, is just stupid. Claiborne had that 6 penalty game against the Ealges..... that to me is much worse, for a player who started from the very first game.
I would much rather have the current Pitt OLmen for our future than the bums we have now! Yeah I would take Pouncey and DeCastro over Berny and Costa anyday!
