Ware fills one. He is a hybrid DE/OLB with explosive speed and loads of pass-rushing potential. Ware's draft stock skyrocketed after an impressive showing at the combine.

Spears is a hard worker, and his combination of size and athleticism make him a terrific fit in Dallas' 3-4 scheme.

Burnett flashes the ability to shed blocks quickly and has excellent range. He also has the speed to rush the passer and match up in coverage.

Scouts' take: Improving the pass rush is a priority, and Ware certainly has the tools to make an impact in that area. Ware anticipates gaps well, he has the explosive first step to shoot the inside gap and he shows great closing speed. He also is a powerful open-field tackler who plays with a mean streak and he is relentless in pursuit. While Shawne Merriman was another possibility here, Ware really impressed the Cowboys with his toughness. It's also worth noting that OLB Derrick Johnson is the best defensive player available, but his style of play doesn't really fit what Dallas is trying to do with its schemes.
Mel Kiper's take: Ware is a tall, rangy guy who is an end/linebacker hybrid in the Willie McGinest mold. He is a sack artist off the edge who commanded double- and triple-team blocks and has a tremendous motor and work ethic. He will give the Cowboys a nice complement to Greg Ellis at the other end.

Scouts' take: With head coach Bill Parcells wanting to get bigger, stronger and more physical on defense, the selection of Marcus Spears is the best move Dallas could have made here. Spears lacks the speed to develop into a dominant edge rusher, and there is some concern about his durability after he tore an ACL while preparing for the combine. However, he is a excellent fit as a defensive end in the 3-4 scheme. He has the bulk to hold his ground at the point of attack, he has the agility to make plays and he's a disciplined player who rarely takes false steps. Spears also is versatile and quick enough to move inside and rush the passer.
Mel Kiper's take: Spears is the ideal fit at a 3-4 defensive end, with his size allowing him to play the run very effectively. He won't be a feared sack artist, but that is not a worry with Dallas getting Demarcus Ware at No. 11. Spears is a hard worker who boosted his stock tremendously with a great week at the Senior Bowl, and his combination of size and athleticism will make him a contributor in Dallas.

Scouts' take: Dallas continues to improve its front seven, which makes sense considering defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is expected to run more 3-4 schemes this year. While Burnett takes too many false steps and there are some concerns about his ability to stay healthy following a 2002 knee injury that required reconstructive surgery, he flashes the ability to shed blocks quickly, and has excellent range. He also has the speed to rush the passer and match up in coverage.
Mel Kiper's take: A hard worker who was always around the ball, Burnett has good size and is a quality athlete who was very steady throughout his career and will team with fellow draftees Shawne Merriman and Marcus Spears to help revamp a Dallas defense that struggled mightily last year.

Spears said he did not tear an ACL and it was just a meniscus and it is completely healed.

Someone should tell Kiper that we drafted Ware instead of Merriman.

Yeah the article was wrong he had a slight tear in his meniscus and got a knee Scope. If he had torn an ACL just before Combine he would still be on crutches

A meniscus tear is not all that serious, in fact, if you're one tough S.O.B. and it happens mid-season, you can play thru it.

The injury just causes bone to rub together causing a TON of pain, but really affects nothing with the structure of the knee.

Rehab is easy, so is the surgery with very little time off to heal. No big deal there.

Well DUHHH! I guess Kiper is too busy to proof read his evaluations.
