I never met him, but he and my dad were in HS together in Germany after WWII. They both played on the football team.

He certainly was a guy to be respected.

I will only speak a little on this.

Warrior

Old School MAN

Scared the crap out of all his subordinates when he was upset.

I salute you old man and I am putting my flag at half mast.

His press conference to close out the first Gulf War was pure classic...

A great soldier and a great American.

Had a friend who was a 3 star general. Never met a 4 star personally. They are impressive men at that rank.

RIP General.

I remember his "Luckiest man in Baghdad" remark when he showed the video of the guy in car going across the bridge just before we blew it up. That was great.

Not a quote, but he once said in so many word he hoped his men complained on the way home he was an SOB, because it meant he got them back alive.

From another thread, someone might suggest this was another one of the "so what?" 2012 noteables deaths. I say he served our country well and saved many that were under his command.

Thank you Norman.

I met him at a Zig Ziglar motivational conference. Jimmy Johnson, Barbara Bush, and several others were also guest speakers. I recorded the speeches. I should listen to his again. He spoke on leadership. It was absolutely great.

Later I got to briefly shake his hand and thank him. I found him to be friendly, engaging, and funny. I really respected this man and think we lost one truly great American.
