Kid is pretty great. Extremely athletic and one of the better tacklers in this draft. Can we find a spot for him to play on an almost every down basis? If so, he would definitely be in high consideration at #18.

I floated the idea of letting Spencer go and moving Carter to OLB if Ogletree's still there when we pick but didn't get many takers.

The problem with that idea is you'd obviously have to make the decision on Spencer and probably have to get Bruce going on the switch before the draft. It would just be a pretty tempting situation to have a starting LB corp of Ware Lee Ogletree and Carter. Not to mention it saves you money on Spencer.

You need that speed in the center of the field. He was safety in high school. I try him there and if it doesnt work out I am sure they can find a place for him.

Switch to a 4-3 and put him on the strong side

Strong vs the run and can cover.

Could Ogletree play the outside? Not sure if I'd want to move Carter when he's starting to excel at ILB. Why mess with something that's working?

Also, and this is key....wasn't Ogletree suspended earlier in the year because of a failed drug test? If so, I can't see JJ and co. investing a first on him.

I'm tired of passing on talent for character. Yes, there are always red flag guys you want to stay away from. But you also have differentiate the criminals/druggies from the kids who were just living the normal college lifestyle. 1 minor slip up at the age of 20 or 21 should not determine someone's future.

I don't disagree with you. I don't know the specifics of the failed drug test, but if it was for pot, I'd give the kid a pass.

But it's not my money and if it's JJ's policy to not risk money and a pick on these kids, then it is what it is.

I remember watching McShay talk about him before a game earlier in the season...maybe LSU...and he was not NEARLY physical enough against the run and wasn't strong at the point of attack. He was getting pushed 10-15 yards back or trying to avoid guards when they got to the 2nd level, which opened up holes.

In a 4-3 you can avoid this to some extent, but if we don't make a switch, I don't know that he's a great fit. Might be an exaggeration, but in Dallas, he could have Bobby Carpenter written all over him.

UGA didn't even play LSU this year? And he was a beast in every big game they played this season. I have absolutely no idea what your talking about.

I don't remember what game it was before, but they were just talking about him not being physical enough.

If he's not physical, he might not be a fit in this defense.

I agree to an extent; however, 1st round picks with character issues can hold a team "hostage". Players that are drafted early know that they are highly unlikely to be cut and therefore can be more difficult to coach. See Dez Bryant. If Dez had been a 5th round pick, he wouldn't have any locker room "cred" and would have the fear of being cut. Dez seems to have worked through his issues but it has been a delicate issue in the past.

Kiper said he thinks Ogletree could be a top 10 pick. He played at UGA under Todd Grantham, who you may recall was a former coach for us. He runs a 3-4 defense and is a Parcells disciple. He played LB in the NFL and said he has no doubt Ogletree can play LB at the next level in a 3-4 defense.

His final play at UGA was a sack in the bowl win over Neb.

I will say I doubt we draft him in the first, and he is likely to go before we even pick anyways.

Here is what Grantham said:
"
"A guy like him is going to be valued, because in that league, you've got to help your corners outside with the kind of wideouts that people have," Grantham said. "So if you help your corners outside, somebody's got to play one-on-one. You can't double everybody. And a guy like him can play some tight underneath coverage and take away the (Tony) Gonzalez, the (Kellen) Winslows -- those premier-type tight ends on the possession routes inside.
"He's got the ability to run things down and hit. He's physical. He's going to get bigger. He's a young player. He's a true junior, so the arrow is up on him and I think he's a real dynamic player."

Dogs ILB Alec Ogletree to the NFL is official
After the school's bowl win, Georgia junior ILB Alec Ogletree stated his intentions of entering the 2013 NFL Draft.
"I'm leaving this year, this is my last game," Ogletree said. "It was a great run while I was here, just want to take a chance on this opportunity to go to the NFL and pursue my dreams." The junior's final collegiate play was a sack on Taylor Martinez. Ogletree is going to blow up the Combine and a team is going to fall in love with his agility in space.

For perspective, he was a Safety his Freshman year, and was moved to OLB due to the 3-4 they run. He is a very good cover LB. In todays nfl schemes of Witten/Gonz/Gronk/Graham/Davis etc, having a LB who can play the run but also cover well is a huge luxury. He's going in the top 15.

I'd still try him as a Woodson safety and I bet they would one of the best run D's in the league. Worst case you have five good LBs for four spots which would have come in handy.
