I like the pick. But I read a while back that he needs(or had) eye surgery and will be out for a few months. He'll have to do a lot to impress in limited time to make the active roster for the opener.

I hope so, but when you consider all the D picks, plus Thornton, coleman, obogu, blade (we did sign him again right?) and the others, we will have enough depth to absorb a small amount of down time, and let Canty get back the right way, even if he does not play all this year, when you add him next year, its like COOL.

He will probably not play much this year. That is OK. He would have been a 2nd round pick at worst and will be ready to rock next year. Even if he is on the IR this year (which I doubt) it is ok. Great pick for our future. This kid can play.

If the Cowboys went to the effort of trading up for him, it means they've done their homework.
I guy just called into the Ticket who said he knows one of the head optomologists in Dallas and he asked him about detatched retinas, and he said 90% of the time it can be fixed with simple laser surgery.

BDC where did you read that he won't play much this year? He's apparently well on the road to a full recovery from the broken leg that kept him all last year.

I didn't just guessing. I mean, we can only play so many guys at one time. :banghead:

It was his achillies which is more serious.

A friend of mine had the procedure and he recovered 100%, it is very rare that it leads to permenant vision problems.

I've read he got into a fight while training and took a bottle to the eye, so even if he recovers from the leg injury his depth perception may not be there.
They could put him on PUP - it'll only keep him out the first six games

I was reading that Canty was hoping to be ready to practice in time for training camp.
In any case, I'm sure BP did his homework on this one via Groh.

wrong part of the Leg he blew out his Knee not Achillies. Then add the Eye injury from a bar fight which happened while training for the combine.
Overall: Injuries really limited Canty's potential as a collegiate player and will wind up costing him dearly on draft day. He missed time early in his career because of shoulder problems and he also blew out his knee four games into his senior season. However, when Canty was healthy as a fulltime starter in 2003.
Canty also did not help his cause when he suffered an eye injury during a bar brawl in Scottsdale, AZ, where he was training during the post-season. He showed up late for the combine because he was unable to travel via airplane and, as of the date of this report (March 19, 2005), he had not yet worked out in Charlottesville. Canty has terrific size, agility and power when healthy

^I think they were talking about Blade's Achillies not Canty.

He didn't "blow out" his knee. It was a pull, not a tear.
