I know it is early, but I do not think I am going out on that limb to far.

I think this is by far the best draft we have had since the early 90's. EASLIY!

I am just giddy right now.

We have set this defense up for years to come with pressure players.

SPEARS
CANTY
CLOVER
ELLIS
CASON
FERGUSON
COLEMAN
JAMES
NYUGEN
BURNETT
WARE
ROY
NEWMAN
HENRY

That just looks crazy to me!

We have so much versatilty and talent now it just looks scary!

All I can say is way to go Jerry and Bill!!!!!!!

It probably is the best draft since the early nineties. That doesn't carry much weight unfortunately :(

It may not carry much weight on its own, but at least there is great potential. That could not be said for the last 10 years or so.

I love it. We are finding adding building blocks rather than 1-to-2 year hole-fillers. I only wish we had more mid-round picks this year - there are some steals; guys that may not be stars, but are going to contribute for a long time.

I am tickled about this draft. Looks very promising, but several people think we've had the best draft in x-number-of years every draft.

That optimism (and general good humor) is what makes this board great. I came here from the board at the dallasmorningnews and haven't checked back in there since.

Your point? Are you trying to make a comparison? Because if you are, these two drafts couldn't be more dissimilar.

I think is what he is pointing out is that draft looked great on paper at that time and ended up being the opposite (aside from RW). That draft was also highly rated at that time.

We won't know for a few years but all we can go by for now is the present and that would be that this is a great-looking draft.

What seems to be separating this draft is what we have done on the second day so far. We have drafted value players at positions of need. No one has had to go do a google search on the picks to find out who thry were. These picks seem like guys who can contribute to the team beyond special teams. Guys who can end up in the rotation. No we have to finish strong with our last few picks, but we seem to have the potential to have one our best classes in the past few years.

he might be trying to say that a WHOLE bunch of people thought that was the best draft since the early 90's and we know how that's working out....getting giddy and judging a draft as "greatness" at this stage fires up the fan base, but, in the NFL only time will tell.

Oh, believe me...I know what he's trying to say. He's trying to curb our enthusiasm with a little dose of reality, Eagles-fan-on-a-cowboys-message-board style.

Well, let's see here we're talking about 2 drafts...both look great on paper. And if we go beyond paper, what do you notice about the players we drafted this year as opposed to that draft in 2002?

2002
Andre Gurode - Motivation Problems

Antonio Bryant - Constant troublemaker at Pitt, headcase

Derek Ross - Same thing at Ohio state. Dropped out of the first round due to character issues.

The rest are scrubs and their evaluation means nothing...Day 2 picks are always hit or miss.

Now, to the present day

DeMarcus Ware - Consensus among scouts is that he has incredible work ethic and is a high character guy. Team Captain.

Marcus Spears - High character, shut up and play kind of guy

Kevin Burnett - Team captain.

Marion Barber III - Player's son. Handled splitting the rushing load at Minnesota just fine.

Chris Canty - Team captain, high character guy (are we seeing a theme yet?)

Soo...how are these drafts comparable again?

I agree that only time will tell in the NFL.

Who knows, people might be calling Ware: Demarcus "Spare" Ware. :banghead:

Who say's Gurode had motivational issues coming out of college or even now? Even by Parcells POV Gurode works hard.

Agreed, I think Gurode is a hard worker. I also think he is as dumb as a box of rocks.

Exactly... Like being the "tallest dwarf".You and me seem to be agreeing on a lot of things about this draft and the cowboys recently. QUit taking my great ideas... Just kidding, you can take em if you want em.

Then he must be the dumbest m'fin football player in the world if he can't learn how to play GUARD with all the hard work he supposedly puts in.

It goes without saying that you can't predict who will bust and who will be a diamond in the rough. That applies to every pick ever since the draft began. My point is that comparing those 2 particular drafts is a huge stretch.

Does anyone dispute the fact that we took 2 known low-character guys in the 2002 draft? At first we thought it was a great draft because we "stole" Bryant and Ross. Of course, any scout would have said there was a good reason those 2 slipped.

This year, it's all about the team players, the team captains, high character, self-motivated vocal leaders. It's night and day. This draft could be the biggest bust the world has ever seen and there still is no comparison between the 2.

I seriously thought that was one of the greatest drafts EVER. It's amazing how it turned out. Parcells let Martin go (that was a mistake, in my mind) and trading Bryant for Morgan was terrible. At least get a draft pick. Letting Ross go was stupid, too, because he could have commanded a draft pick of some kind.
