He'd look like a car in reverse against defensive tackles.

Oh well. He's gave us no choice.
The guy gets lifted off the ground at times.
Paying for steak, lobster and Dom. Getting bologna, Velveta and T Bird. Probably gets worse inside as guys get under his pads and fork lift him into the backfield.

11 million to keep him or 8 million to cut, I would save the 3 million

2nd choice sounds like 1 hell of a time...

is the position I've always envisioned him playing. However, I was told in here, several times, that he wouldn't be a good one because he plays at a high pad level.
My argument has always been that he has quick feet and would be an outstanding pulling guard. He's shown that when he pulls as an OT. Perhaps in a west coast offense ( Houston, Washington ) where they don't need maulers at the O-line, would be a better fit.

.....on one hand I want to say your crazy and he just sucks so bad he'll be out of football next season. But if you think about it, most every player that's left has been better elsewhere: Bowen, Canty, MartyB, etc....IF he goes somewhere else and is miraculously ''resurrected" that's ALL on our coaching. That said, I don't think he will.....what a colossal CLOWN this guy turned out to be. I'd be more forgiving if I thought he tried his best but....I really don't. Can't WAIT until he's out of town:bang2:

Jason Witten would make a better guard that Free, not joking.

The cap hit is much worse to keep him. You could sign a real OG for 7M per year.
Keep now and Cut After 2013:
2013 Cap Hit = 11.175M (7M + 4.175M)
2014 Cap Hit = 4.175M
Addition Real Dollars = 7M
Cut Now*:
2013 Cap Hit = 4.175M
2014 Cap Hit = 4.175M
Additional Real Dollars = Zero

what has made him stink this year would not change if he went to guard. He would just stink in a different position.

The 3 Million potential savings would just be eaten up by a player we would be forced to bring in to play RT.
I think we need to see what he could be if he had a good guard to play next to. His performance has always been much better when you play him beside a good guard.

He is getting physically manhandled at times. Larry Allen next to him would not make Doug Free good against a bullrush. Steroids yes.

Free seemed to lose it mentally.
He isn't strong and isn't nasty but when he came a whipping boy every play that is just too much to handle.
Scrubs were having career years off him in ONE GAME.
To stay as an OG he'd have to take a big salary cut which seems almost crazy.
We paid him as an LT and he isn't even a starting caliber RT. He has to be cut lose.

He's not a RT. Never thought he was and I have actually stated this on this board many, many times.
I think he's a LT.

This.
But then again I thought he was more of a backup than a full-time starter.

When he played LT along side Kosier, he actually had a pretty good year. I believe that was 2010. In 2011, we flipped Kosier from the Left to the Right and started Holland at LG. Free's play started dropping off but Smith's play on the right side was as impressive as you could ask for a Rookie with Kosier player next to him. This season, we flipped Free from Left to Right, Kosier went away, we brought in Livings on the Left and Bernadeau on the Right and both Free and Smith feel off a cliff.
I'm not saying Free is the answer but I am saying that before we make a final decision on him, we should see what happens if we put him next to a good Guard.

He might just end up being a swing tackle. Of course, he would have to renegotiate his contract but I could see that.

He earned his contract because of how he played at LT.

how come I don't hear this about other tackles that stink- they need a good guard next to them? Total BS.
