View Full Version : Mini-Camp Photos (Sunday's 1st Practice)
Here's what I have right now. Some of these will appear on DallasCowboys.com later tonight, so thanks to them for allowing me to take these shots.
As for the morning practice, I'll post a more detailed summary later tonight when I get back in SA (around 10 CT).
The highlights were that Vinny threw two picks (one to Newman where he broke on the ball, the other to Dat Nguyen after it got tipped by Singleton). Hunter broke up two passes, one of which can be seen in the picture below on a pass thrown to Antonio. Bryant probably should have made the catch, but Hunter did a nice job.

Dat looks like he's really hit the weight room. I thought RW would be a little more cut up after reading reports he's been working out.
Looks like linemen are required to wear the knee braces throughout camp.
Nice photos.

And now it's clear why Tuna has mentioned several times AL Johnson lost a lot during his recovery and needs to put some back on. Gotta build back up that upper body, it seems. He looks smaller than Matt right now.
Cason looks freakin great.
Great job, Dale.

It does. Vollers is more lanky than beefy.

The only thing about Cason is it seems all the added weight is in the chest area. His legs don't look much bigger at all. This is where he's built differently from a guy like Julius. Sure, Julius' chest is huge, but so are his thighs -- much like Emmitt's. Even with the added weight, I'm not convinced Cason has the build to be an everydown-type back.
Has Carter put on any weight? I think that was one of the to do's Bill asked of him. How is his form - any improvements year over year?
Vinnie two ints? How did Romo fare today?
Tier 2 CB's - how is the kid from Rutgers faring?

Yeah, if anything, he will be putting more stress on his lower body carrying the extra weight. Sounds like a 3rd down back.

I agree that if he doesn't bulk up his lower body it doesn't do him any good.

Running backs have to have ultra strong legs, sure, but how many have the Earl Campbell thunder thighs?
Ok bad example :p
The body type of Emmit Smith and Curtis Martin are very similar - smallish backs who can do it as "workhorses", and have remarkable thighs. But I've noticed some massively thighed smaller backs like Amos Zereoue have't done well as feature backs.
I don't see of pic of Aveion's legs tho..where is there one?

Remember Robert Newhouse? Man if he got those pistons pumping and he was leaning forward it took 5 or more guys to bring him down.

Tier 2 CB's - how is the kid from Rutgers faring?I'm interested in this as well... Have Jones, Thornton, or Reeves or any of the other guys stood out?
Judgling from Parcells' comments at the press conference, Powell is the one pushing Hunter... He might have passed Davison at this point?

I remember a year ago I asked you who the best looking Cowboys were, and that Pete was included in your answer (Cason too) ..they're playing Hard Knocks again and it wasn't til this week I got to see what your were talking about re Huiter . Game time just doesn't do it.
Of course the interest, like the scrutiny of every bleesed detail, is football related, only. ;)
By the way, Brown Sugar, I wasn't here on your birthday, but happy belated b'day, hon, and to today's birthday girl as well...Cowgal!

You know, Thorton does look like Edwards, and I didn't really notice it until I got the pics from my b-day party back, he and Davison came.....Thorton looks a lot older than what he actually is...

By next year there should be enough of them in town, you'll need to rent a
circus tent for your party.

Johnny.
Next offseason the team has to re-sign the bumper crop of four first rounders in 2000. Priority, is of course, on Pennington. They have acknowledged re-signing all four will likely be impossible.
Take your pick of Abraham and Ellis. Both of whom Bill drafted. And both of whom have been to Pro Bowls. Shaun Ellis will be 27 next March when the FA period begins.
Johnny Abe, who Bill took with his first of the four first round picks, just 26.
Your web hunting skills duly noted.
Yes - but are DE's that big a priority?

Well, since the Jet aim to turn Abraham into a "hybrid" LB/DE this year, who know what he'll be by next March?
I mean, once the 15 percent of 3-4 option down here is moving towards 50....
Think McGinest role in NE, Nors.

Might have to tag Chad instead. Or pay him so much we can't sign Abe at the franchise. I don't' know what's gonna happen.
I just know the Jets FO/ PR folks have been preparing is for TWO years not to expect to see Chad. Abe, and Ellis all re-signed.
Pennington is looking for a 20 mil signing bonus. Hopefully, that deal gets done this year, so when next March rolls, the tag could be used on Ellis or Abraham, if need be.
It'll be tough on those two bookends being separated. They are best friends. Both from South Carolina, tho Shaun played for Tenn. Both have the same agent, inseparable. Ted Cottrell used to good naturedly complain that they they were always "giggling" over nothing, and if he asked Dweedledee a question, Dweedledum would probably respond. They definitely had that Beavis and Butthead thing down.
Regardless, I think there's a much higher likelihood of one of 'em wearing the star next year than your prediction of Bledsoe coming true. :p
