I enjoyed the book. But the thing I enjoyed the most was the photo of Parcells from his days as a defensive coordinator at Texas Tech, in the period when his nickname was "Pretty" Bill Parcells:

I just find it impressive, Bill with all that hair!

Sometime in the mid seventies.

His first HC job was at Air Force, and I know that was in '78.

I think TT was just before that and after he was at Vanderbilt.

Air Force? I thought it was at Army (where he met Bob Knight).

Army, Air Force, Texas Tech and Vanderbilt.....not in that order.

Army, Air Force, Texas Tech and Vanderbilt.....not in that order.

Hastings -> Wichita State -> Army -> Florida State -> Vanderbilt -> Texas Tech as an assistant at the college level.

1 year as head coach at Air Force.

Then a short stint as a linebacker coach with the Giants (weeks? months?), then because of family issues he quit football and sold real estate. The next year he ended up a linebackers coach with New England (and stuck with coaching for a while)..

Gutman's book is outstanding. I highly recommend it.

That was a great time in Texas Tech football history. Steve Sloan was a very popular figure there until he bailed out.
