I really feel, the way Corey Chavous was buttering the Cowboys draft on the NFL channel, that he will be wearing the star on his helmet this year,Although Ronda Barber would be a good fit also, but I am not going to hold my Breath.
I new that Dallas should have drafted him in the draft a few years back,I new he was going to be a good player in this league.Matter of fact, I am still a little upset that Dallas passed on Tony Brackens when they picked up the lineman from North Carolina(Ekuban).I almost cried when they past on Fred Smoot also,I guess Jerry thought that the corner from Tenessee (Dwayne Goodwrench?)was better.Who can remember when Dre Bly was passed also.
I don't see anyone they passed in this years draft, with the exception of Cody from Oklahoma who will win rookie of the year as long as he stays on his meds.Just good to see that Jerry isn't choseing the draft picks.
Bad drafts make for bad teams and let's just say that our past few drafts before Parcell's were terrible,Great draft this year though as we all know, looking forwar4d to the boys being the team to beat and I know its coming

I'll be shocked if Minny really cuts him. It isn't like they don't have the cap room to keep him.

I would love to have Chavous on our team, but that seems highly unlikely. But then again, when we were looking at coaches after Campo's campaign, hiring someone like Bill Parcells sounded highly unlikely too.

I guess we'll find out.

The problem with Goodrich is that most people had him ranked as a 4th rounder. The kid Carolina picked right after we picked Dwayne, Deon Grant, is still with their team, and was highly touted that year.

Pompeii had this to say about Chavous in an article focusing on Thomas Davis..

In recent years, more has been demanded of safeties from a coverage standpoint as offenses have learned to isolate and attack them with fleet tight ends and shifty receivers. Titans coach Jeff Fisher says teams are looking for more athletic, faster safeties these days. That's why we've seen an increase in the number of cornerback-safety 'tweeners playing safety, such as Minnesota's Corey Chavous, New England's Eugene Wilson and Tampa Bay's Dwight Smith.

Which does leave me curious: what is Chavous's 40 time?

I don't believe that Chauous' 40 time is important, IMO the important think is his ablility to cover in passing situations.

From an old draft article:

Over the last month, Chavous has auditioned twice in front of the pro scouts. At the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, he registered the following official measurements and times: 5-foot-11 3/4 inches in height, 204 pounds of weight, broad jump of 10 feet and 1 1/2 inches, 40-yard dash of 4.5 seconds, and a stunning 39 1/2 -inch vertical jump.

``Overall, I felt like I had a good workout,'' Chavous said. ``I think my vertical jump may have caught some people's eyes. My 40-speed was good enough, but I knew that I was going to have to run better in my campus workout.''

Fifteen NFL teams, including the Steelers and Falcons, showed up Vanderbilt's Pro Timing Day last Monday. Despite cold and rainy weather, Chavous lowered his 40-time to 4.44 seconds. Another impressive timing was doing the 20-yard shuttle in 3.96 seconds.

Exactly. It's like determing if someone can kick well by asking their leg strenth. There's much more to it...

That was maybe the worst draft in the history of the NFL. It sucked then but it really sucks now.

you had your fact wrong. when the cowboys passed on tony brackens, the defensive lineman they picked up was kavika pittman. that was before the days of ekuban.

Same story, different year!

That draft was made back in Jerry's party days.

While Chavous would be an upgrade, I don't see any way Minny lets him go. You can call it if you want. But it's pretty unlikely that it happens.

Actually, Grant recently signed with Jacksonville. He followed his former DC, Del Rio.

Well there is conclusive proof we might be interested.

Chavous patted Roy Williams' butt after a vicious hit.

I am convinced.

I dont think its the cap number they are worried about, maybe they just dont want him on their team, of course with a real head coach at his side, maybe his tune will change

That was maybe the worst draft in the history of the NFL. It sucked then but it really sucks now. That draft was bad but nothing can beat the 1995 draft for pure awfulness.

To recap:

trade out of 1st round to pick...Sherman Williams
now normally having three 2nds would be a good thing, but it turned into a horror show when Williams was joined by the likes of Kendall Watkins and Shane Hannah.

The 3rd round yielded Charlie Williams, who ended up being the best pick of this draft, which tells you just how much it sucked.

In the 4th we took Alundis Brice and Linc Harden. Nothing more to say there.

In the 5th we took Edward Hervey, who went on to become a star... in the CFL, and Dana Howard, who sucked.

In the 7th, Jerry Jones thought he'd found another Leon Lett-type in....Oscar Sturgis.

So as much as the Goodrich draft sucked, it was nothing compared to the 1995 debacle.

By the way FuzzyLumpkins, cool sig/avatar/whatever it's called. I take it you're a Ween fan?

P.S. I think Dallas also blew a supplemental 3rd round pick on Darren Benson in 1995. As a DT, he made a great roofer.

I know - I think I explained that poorly. I mean to say, without any sort of cap issues being held over their head, I don't see any reason for them to cut him right nor or after June. I think that they still need him to play, otherwise they open up another hole at safety, something they were trying to remedy with the signing of Sharper.
