I wonder how long he lasts at camp before quitting again?

Agent: Ricky absolutely coming to camp
Leigh Steinberg says the slimmed-down running back is excited about returning to the Dolphins.

By Greg A. Bedard

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

Saturday, May 21, 2005

The agent for Ricky Williams said Friday the retired running back "absolutely" will report to Dolphins training camp in July.

"Ricky's made the decision he wants to play again," Leigh Steinberg said.
Asked when Williams can be expected to make a final decision about returning to the Dolphins, Steinberg said: "He has. He's expressed his desire to play this year."

Steinberg said he has been in constant contact with Williams in the past several months and especially in the past 10 days, since Williams returned to California from a monthlong stay in India.

Dolphins coach Nick Saban, who said Thursday that Williams was "very, very interested in coming back,'' was not available for comment about Steinberg's remarks. But team spokesman Harvey Greene released a statement from Saban about all topics concerning Williams.

"I'm concerned with the players that are here getting ready for the season, and my conversations with Ricky are confidential," Saban said.

Steinberg said Williams has spoken several times to Saban in recent days.

"He feels a very natural rapport with coach Saban, and I think that's a very positive factor,'' Steinberg said.

Although Steinberg insists Williams plans to return, the running back didn't sound as certain in an online chat with a Sports Illustrated reporter Wednesday night. When asked if he planned to play football again, SI.com reported that Williams said, "I honestly do not know.''

The online report also said Williams weighs 195 pounds — about 30 pounds lighter than he weighed in his last season with the Dolphins. Steinberg didn't dispute the player's reported weight.

"He just returned from a respected yoga teaching center in India," said Steinberg, who added that Williams is now a certified yoga instructor. "That is a very strenuous physical discipline which fortunately allowed him to keep in shape. But since he's been back in California, he has been working out."

Despite Williams' uncertainty in the online interview, Steinberg believes he wants to play.

"Ricky never lost his love for football. It's just a question of whether he wanted to play in the NFL," Steinberg said. "And I think in the time away he's realized that he misses it and he's excited about rejoining the Dolphins."

Williams said online that he believes he can play two more seasons.

"I've still got 4,000 yards left in me," Williams wrote, meaning a pair of 2,000-yard rushing seasons. "Who is gonna turn that down?"

Steinberg declined to comment about issues blocking Williams' return to the NFL. He faces a drug suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, and he owes the Dolphins $8.6 million for violating his contract through last summer's sudden retirement.

Williams, who reportedly tested positive for marijuana three times, can't rejoin the Dolphins until July because his retirement triggered a one-year suspension under the league's drug policy. Williams is also subject to an in-season suspension and fine.

"He owes a four-game suspension provided he comes back after the one-year anniversary of his retirement," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.

A source said Williams is considering challenging the four-game suspension.

Steinberg wouldn't comment about Williams' personal life, but a source who has spoken to Williams said he has been drug- and alcohol-free since he enrolled at the California College of Ayurveda in Grass Valley, Calif., last fall to study holistic medicine.

"If he wasn't going to be in rehab, he was probably in the best place for him," the source said. "They don't believe in any of that stuff there."

I seriously doubt he will be with the Dolphins in July. If he really does come back, the only reason I can see for Miami to take him back is to trade him. He has screwed them financially and screwed his teammates last year with the way he bailed out on them.

I can't begin to wonder who would want him enough to trade anything for him though. Oakland already has Lamont Jordan otherwise they would be the frontrunners.

That would be a fun locker room to be the first time RW walked back in there. He must be running low on pot money, if I were the Phins I wouldnt want him back unless I had a trade partner already lined up.

A few Dolphins Players from reports on ESPN are glad RW quit last season and would love him to come back now. The reason is most players wanted Dave W gone and think RW quitting got that done. That sounds like something NORS would say "bring em back he got rid of so and so for us yeah"

A few things from this thread that stick out to me...
It sounds like Saban is saying all the right things. He sounds like a player's coach, and someone who will stick up for his players. Should be a good fit as head coach in Mia.

If Ricky is under 200 lbs as now advertised, he better have picked up some speed during his world reefer tour. He had better show proof of some cobra like first step or he will be ground meat for opposing linebackers.

Ricky needs to give O. Smith a call to investigate ways to conceal "the original whizzinator" during travel instead of carrying that stuff through airports. Plus, Ricky W. owes Mia. 8.6 million of his signing bonus for his abrupt retirement, it sure is gonna suck to be playing for just chee-toes. Oh well, munchies anyone?

I'd like to see him in Miami.

How quickly Cowboy fans want to forget the Irvin arrest and trial and all the confusion it brought to the team. It went a long ways to destroying team chemistry just like the Williams deal in Miami has.

And Irvin's brush with the law also served to hasten the departure of Switzer, a coach many wanted out of Dallas. Similar to some players feeling Williams leaving hasten Wannsteadt leaving. Probably very true.

Or what about our Duane Thomas and him calling Landry a 'Plastic Man' and retiring rather than play anymore.

Years later..Thomas' problems have gone away with time and now he gets interviewed and quoted about his role in the '72 SB win.

Or what about Rapheal Septien, a kicker for us. Child molestation charges. Or Lanze Rentzel, indecent exposure charges. We got our own gallery of dudes, too.

Time heals all wounds.

So everybody stop with the piling on.

Remember, we are the team that has brought back guys from Bi-Polar disorders, shootings and knifings to play for us. Our starting QB 2003 had failed the drug test 2-3 times and still we played him..?

To scream about Williams and Miami making up is crazy. This stuff happens to all teams sometimes. It's happened to us more than once.

If Williams wants to return after all this and make amends to the 'Fins for what he's done, I say..

Great..!!

Who cares..? The Fins, like us, are bottom feeders of the NFL and need all the help we can get. Saban probably can salvage William's career.

Actually, I'd like to have him in Dallas if he's committed to playing. the guy can carry a team.

Something even Jujo hasn't established yet.

You know dude you don't even need to start
first you said you read it at the Miami Hereald which had neither Hide nor hair of it.

second You said he had already agreed to rejoin Miami which he hadn't.

third when it did get leaked he was "thinking" about coming back and reported on ESPN you change your story about what you posted and said you heard it on ESPN which is BS your post never had ESPN in it.

SO if you had half a brain you'd see what I posted here is legit no ands, ifs or buts about it. You can lookup the source and read it your self not like what you posted that had a bogus source.

And last if you notice I've been around a few months and have earned a little very little leeway in what I post and even posters who have been here for ever still get harassed so what the hell makes you think you shouldn't when you post something with no real source for all anyone knows your a Troll just trying to disrupt our board.

The Dolphins are going to be a very big surprise this year. Their running back/receiver combos have the potential, underline potential, to be among the best in the NFL:

WR: Chambers, Booker, Boston
RB: Ricky Williams, Ronnie Brown
TE: Randy McMichael

And one hell of a good head coach, plus Hudson Houck in charge of the OL.

Actually, I look at it another way. I think Saban is making a MISTAKE by even contemplating RW's return. This is the PERFECT time to send a message to his players that actions like this WILL NOT be tolerated. That there are repercussions when you do wrong. By NOT taking a hard-line stance against RW, it makes Saban look like a "two-faced politician", imo.

I'm all for giving a guy another chance BUT being the team that he screwed, I'd cut him, make him payback his $$$ to the team and let another team give him a second chance. And yes, because of his talent, he will get another chance somewhere else.

Yes, I hate to say it, but they will be one of the surprise teams. Saban is quietly putting together a nice squad!

Also, don't forget that they added Carter to play opposite side of J. Taylor! If they can get a decent corner to replace Surtain & an average O-Line, they might have something.

Personally, since I know the guy has social anxiety disorder then I tend to be a little more tolerant towards his aberrant behavior. Perhaps Saban is acting both in an altruistic way and in his and the Fins interest.

I'm of the opinion they have to deal with him contracturally and it's in both parties best interests to do so in a civil, cordial, respectful and even compassionate way as well as doing business.

I'm not sure Ricky can hang in there long enough to pull things off but if he gets enough support maybe he can salvage some of his life.

First off this got started with your post. It was closed because it had no source or link to a source. It wasn't closed due to sarcasm. The source you gave was Miami Hereald which as I said before had no mention of it. Then when ESPN reports he is thinking about it and Virus X posts it with a link to the story this was your response.

Didn't I post this around 7 pm est yesterday? Oh yeah, it was closed due to all of the sarcasm??? To some of the "Whizzinators" in this forum that know everything, "be easy next time" I thought this forum was for all COWBOYS fan to share "sports"news of interest???? Seems like we have more moderators than users/posters! To all of the true fans in this forum, "No Offense"!

And to those wondering, Ricky will be required to serve a four game suspension once he's reinstated! So he'll probably suit up around October. Saban will get critizize for accepting him back, but actually, it's not a bad move! By the way, I'm not a first time poster nor an AGENT! Just a true COWBOYS / Sports fanatic that lives in Dolphin land (5 minutes from their training facility).

This was your original post

Miami Herald just confirmed that Ricky Williams will return to the Dopephins in July! That dude is confused!!!

So when you got called out because you had no source this was your response..

My source was Dan LaBatard, Sportswriter Miami Herald & Analyst ESPN. He reported the news of Ricky's return on his daily broadcast / show. Anyway, it's been known in the South Florida area since the week of the draft that Ricky would be returning to the Dolphins this year! LaBastard, who I do not care for by the way (Extreme Cowboy Hater), is close friends with Puff-Puff-Pass & has written several in-depth pieces on him. Nonetheless, he's very credible & doesn't normally report on bogus rumor! His words were that it's "confirmed " by a herald insider from Nick Saban.

In your original post did you say you heard it on the radio? No you said Miami Hereald just confirmed Ricky will be......

Then when I post this article you respond to me in this way....

WOW, REALLY??? Funny you should report this??? How bogus does my source sound now??????? WR: Chambers, Booker, Boston
RB: Ricky Williams, Ronnie Brown
TE: Randy McMichael

And one hell of a good head coach, plus Hudson Houck in charge of the OL.

I think so too, they won 10 games year before last with Fee fi fo Fiedler. If Ferotte can just play half way decent they'll be in good shape.

Later.
