In an effort to kill time before TC and to better get to know everyone here, what's everyone's name here mean?

I went to St. John's in Eashington, DC, and one of our biggest rivals was DeMatha. DeMatha is the Stags, hence, Stag Hunter.

Mine was just a randomly thought up name.

It has no meaning behind it, sadly.

If I could change it I would, but now that I'm known at many boards(not always for good reasons :D) I can't really do that. :(

parcells appears to be a big fan of horse racing.

when he assumed the coaching "reins" of the cowboys he kinda became the team's jockey or rider - in charge of bringing in a "winning mount". and most of us know many jockeys go to their whips when they want to encourage their mount to make a hard charge - particularly during the "stretch-run".

hence, "tothewhipbill".

while i don't advocate the physical abuse of players by their coaches - i do get a kick outta the frequent tongue-lashings BP has been known to administer.

i consider dallas very lucky to have coach parcells.

Qwickdraw
06-09-2005, 02:24 AM
I also consider us very fortunate to have to such a great coach. BP is the man. Period.

My tag is a "cowboy" sort of reference crossed with my love/hobby of drawing.
It's a tag I created when I used to do caricatures at Busch Gardens where I would have to draw a comical likeness of a complete stranger in under 6 minutes. Hence the term... "quick"draw.
And of course the old West term for a gunslinger.

smashmouth
06-09-2005, 02:49 AM
Mine, I just like the way Roy Williams hit. It's like a smash mouth hit, and I love his play and thus*drum roll* the name...SMASHMOUTH

After many years of inferior coaching,I became sold on the old Giant's coach quest to play the "big room". His old school smash mouth style and sell your life to the sport I respect. He also named his daughter Dallas ,and one can hope that his dedication and time spent away from her may have healing significance in the end. Would love to have a sixth Super Bowl while Bill is here...Hence..Bill knows

SacredStar

Mine goes back to Terrell Owens disrespecting the star after his TD.

George Teague plowed him down, and afterward stated that the star was "sacred".

That star is sacred to me.

THUMPER
06-09-2005, 05:10 AM
I have had a habit of bouncing my leg/knee since I was a little kid (I am doing it even as I type) so they called me "Thumper" after the rabbit in "Bambi". As I grew to be a pretty large individual with a nasty temper, and used to "thump" the crap out of people on the field, it was changed to "THUMPER" and I've had that nickname since my freshman year of high school.

My biggest quarrel is with those who have since stolen this name that I've created...Since I started using the Internet back in...well lets see...I used it in the military back in the early 80's but commercially I guess since about 90-1...you know...back when a 800 baud modem was the Porsche... Since than there are like 50 Zaxor's on A(-h)OL, a Zaxor Software Company... another 20 or so using Zaxor on IRQ..etc..etc..

I got very heavily into the Chicago blues harmonica sound...played for hours on end every day...listened to all the greats...and of course, Little Walter was my fav.

Each one of the great players had a signature song...Walter's was called "Juke"....I added the "99" because that was the year I first used the handle and because 9 is my favorite number.

I'm just another Bob among the millions of us.

I would have preferred to use my real name but I have an internet business and send my products to all states and am concerned that if my true identity were known, it would make it easy for some vindictive, crazed fanatic to trash my website daily and cause me no end of problems, just because we differ over some player or team - there are too many of those kinds of people on some sports boards.

Yes, I really am a retired ranchhand/cowboy, but now that someone else is bustin' his butt doing my old job, this frees me up to to engage in a little internet entrepreneurship. If you have never worked on a cattle ranch, some parts of you are still virgin.

I am part Choctaw and play the cedar flute, thus my avatar. I also know a secret about Kokopelli that no one else knows, but I will release the news when it suits me to do so. Kokopelli was my birth sign so he is the closest thing I have to a patron saint.

AsthmaField
06-09-2005, 10:56 AM
My explanation is a little long.

When I first joined the Cowboy Forums around the Internet, I wanted something that would identify me as a true Cowboy fan. I wanted something that only Cowboy fans would understand. So I got the bright idea to use AsthmaField from something that happened in the early 90's with Jimmy Johnson.

Jimmy was known for running brutal training camps. He brought training camp back from nice, cool Thousand Oaks, California, to the sweltering, suffocating heat that is Texas in August. With Jimmy, everybody ran hard and worked hard.

This particular year, I think it was before the '91 season, it was even hotter than normal. I had gone to Longview, Texas to visit relatives (which I usually tried to coincide with training camp), and was watching a 30 minuet daily special report on TV about training camp.

While the reporter was talking you could see the whole team running laps, with Jimmy occasionally clapping and yelling encoragement. Then, one of the players, a skinny little free agent punter who had been brought in for camp competition, fell out in utter exhaustion. He was sweating profusely and really looked like he wasn't going to make it.

Johnson ran over to him and started yelling to get up as the other players just kept running by the pair. He didn't move, so Jimmy really started yelling at him, bending over to yell in his face.

The skinny little punter, loud enough for the camera to catch it, said, "I can't coach! I can't! I have asthma!"

Jimmy straightened up ever so slightly, and for just a second seemed at a loss for words. Then he yelled, "Asthma? You have asthma? Well, you can go run over there," he said, pointing to a vacant field next to where they were practicing, "that's where people with asthma run. That's the Asthma Field!"

He made the poor guy get up and go run over on the empty field. You could see him stumbling around and around the field while they were finishing the training camp special. Jimmy about ran him to death.

The next day, Johnson cut the punter. :D

Classic Jimmy Johnson.

Anyway, as I was about to sign up to the forum, that came to mind and I decided to use AsthmaField as my moniker thinking that Cowboy fans would surely know about the asthma field.

I've wished many times I hadn't done it. Apparently, the term isn't as widely known as I thought, because hardly anyone has known what it meant. Also, when I get in disagreements online, I usually end up being called wheezer or something like that. Just for the record... I don't have asthma.

So there you have it.

Couple of the guys from YES formed Asia. The drummer and Guitarist....I think.

My handle used to be "that's6" for whenever they scored a touchdown that's what i'd holler to my brother. I'd get right in his face and holler it standing in the traditional referee stance, arms straight up and all... "count 'em....that's 6 baby!!"A thing of beauty. Pittsburgh fan he was.
Also my AV has a picture of my son who was for some strange reason doing the touchdown signal while standing on some boulders. I didn't ask him to. Somehow my account got screwed up and 6 wouldn't work so I had to go with 7. Can I fix that?

Actually the dirty sanchez is completely different from the Hot Carl. The Hot Carl is also known as the Charleston Heater or the Cleveland Steamer, with variations including the Pasadena Mudslide and the Seattle Hotpocket. I have two reasons for the name "Phoenix-Talon."

Reason #1 ...

The general definition of a Phoenix is a bird of paradise that dies and is reborn In the ashes of fire --the Phoenix is an Eagle-like bird.

As most of your learned fans already know, the Phoenix was indigenous to Egypt, appearing (according to the accounts of the people of Heliopolis) once in five hundred years. The Phoenix appeared in Egypt and furnished the most learned men of that country and of Greece with abundant matter for the discussion of the marvelous phenomenon.

Reason #2 ...

That's what Janet likes to call me :)

Stiletto as in "Stiletto Viper" not a d4mn shoe or dagger like some people think.

The Stiletto Viper (Atractaspidinae) has a unique way of biting its prey. A venomous snake, it has long hinged fangs and is a burrower (hence it is sometimes also called the Mole or Burrowing Viper). In a confined burrow, it strikes by crawling alongside its prey, opening its mouth slightly, shifting the lower jaw away from the prey and stabbing backwards and sideways with one fang.

I used to be in a on-line gaming clan along time ago and we had various viper names for handles and they just gave me that one and it stuck.

(I sucked on offense but I was a good defensive player.) I shut him down in the first half of the game and when the second half was about to get started he came up behind me and yanked my shorts down around my ankles. I was wearing a jockstrap and nothing else. Most people were laughing and I kicked my shorts all the way off and spun and kicked this guy right upside his head. (I was ejected.) The next day all the guys were calling me 'Bruce Lee' and the girls were calling me 'tight ***'. That got shortened to 'tass' and it became my name to just about everyone.

Hey wxcpo, you've got a fellow goat locker member here, I'm currently an ABEC on good ol Chucky V... CVN-70, hence my location, Cellblock 70 while we are out here on deployment. I know several of your old wx (now AG) counterparts on here.

Because I was concerned that

Oneness with the Supreme, the merging of the physical being with the spiritual.. The most sacred syllable, the first sound of the Almighty - the sound from which emerges each and every other sound, whether of music or of language. It is the sound not only of origination but also of dissolution. The past, present and future are all included in this one sound and even all that transcends this configuration of time is also implied in OM.

Might sound a bit presumptuous. :)

Okay, not really. I needed something that fit on a golf scorecard.

Wow, this was an interesting read. I'm so far down the list that I doubt anyone reads mine.

RoboQB is a play on Troy Aikman. It has always been said that often the football would never touch the ground in many Cowboys practices. Also, Aikman will always be known for his accuracy. Me and a couple of friends used to joke about him not being human. It always seems funnier when everyone is in a drunken stuper, but anyhow I came up with "RoboQB". Only a blow to the head would jar a computer chip from time to time. Otherwise, it was completion after completion. A win and another Super Bowl trophy.

ESPN was doing some story on Dale Carter at the time I was posting, so I just went with Dale.

I was unable to live up to my one-or-two post plan, and just stuck with the name.

Mine is a play on my last name, Mars, the god of war. My last name is Marrs.

Since my name was derived from mythology, here's a little more on your handle ...

The planet mars is named after the Roman god of war, Mars was originally the god of fertility and agriculture but later became associated with war. In the future scientists hope to use terraforming to alter the conditions on planet Mars thereby allowing humans to live there. Some see Mars the god of fertitlity as a good omen concerning the future of life on Mars.
In Roman mythology Mars is the son of Jupiter and Juno and the father of Romulus and Remus. Romulus and Remus were the founders of Rome and this is why Mars is sometimes considered the father of Rome

silver because i'm a horse and my master is the lone ranger

http://www.iowalink.com/users/kbar/walk.gif

Silver's real name was "Traveler." The Horse's first master was Tonto -- who gave the horse to the Lone Ranger. Here's more trivia ...

...Silver#1 was personally picked by Clayton from the ranch stock at the Hugh Hooker horse ranch in the San Fernando Valley in 1949 for use on the show just prior to the series launch.

...The white stallion Clayton decided on was a very large mount that stood a strong 17+ hands tall and presented a very majestic image. This white horse, whose true name was "White Cloud", was said to be 12 years old at the time, well trained and gentle

...The second Silver(Silver#2) of the TV series was actually purchased personally in about 1949 by George W. Trendle (the owner of the Lone Ranger show at that time).

...Trendle immediately renamed the horse "Hi-Yo Silver" which he had registered.

...A third white horse was "rented" from the Spahn Ranch for the episodes featuring "Dan Reid", the Lone Ranger's nephew. Dan's horse, per the story line, was named "Victor" and sired by Silver.

Myths about Silver:
Some sources say Clayton's first Silver from the Hooker Ranch is the same white horse that Thomas Mitchell rode in "Gone With The Wind". The truth is: the white horse in Gone With The Wind was actually "Silver Chief" from the Hudkin Brothers Stables. Silver Chief had portrayed Silver in the 1938 and 1940 Republic Serials, "The Lone Ranger" and "The Lone Ranger Rides Again". Thus, it was a "Silver" but not Clayton's TV "Silver"

Another partially true myth is that Silver's real name was Traveler and he was disturbed by the sound of camera motors and would act up if he heard them. Truth is: There was a horse from Studio Stables that was a stand-in stunt and chase double for Silver, named "Traveler", used on the Lone Ranger show but it was Silver#2 that had the 'camera reactions.

My original user name back in the day at the Silver Star was "Big D", but there was a guy that used to post there all the time and his name was "BigDBoy" and people would refer to him as "BigD" so I changed my name to "BIGDen" to keep the "BigD", but also to make it less confusing to other posters. Just wanted to honor my favorite Cowboy from the recent glory years. Although he did get a lot of credit for what he did here I still think he was a bit under appreciated being in the shadow of the triplets. Plus whenever he caught a pass in the open field it looked like he was ready to fall over when he ran and I always thought that was hilarious. Great team guy.
