Brad Sham on Total Access

Mr. Sham was in the studio with Rich Eisner.

A few things he mentioned:

1.) Zim is a fine coach. He "could coach any defense, including a full court press". :)

2.) He "would not bet against" Tuna returning for additional years after his 4 year contact.

3. ) Because Jerry is a 'lightening rod", he is not getting the credit he deserves for realizing he had to change, doing so, and in essence submerging his ego.

4.) Julius was a "different person" when he returned at Thanksgiving from his injury. He had been "shattered" by both Tuna and Mo Carthon, but doing his recovery from his injury period, Richie Anderson and Eddie George worked with him.

5.) He likes Bill a lot...has the same outlook as him, "that something 'can always go wrong".

6.) Will be interesting to see how much time Glover and Ellis get on the field. That is a challenge for Tuna. Also mentioned the wisdom of not trading Dat to New Orleans.

I missed the first part..was talking about Bledose and said something about perhaps having to or needing to bring in a RT. There were film clips from the mini camp, Bledsoe throwing to his recievers.

Ha! Pretty much yeah, Juke. Sham said no one who knows Bill and Jerry thought it couldn't work..only those who don't really know them. Jerry had to "change the way he does business on a daily basis". And Brad obviously thought JJ capable of that.

I gotta agree Jerry has not only done so put but a smiling face on it. Of course, he gets no props for prior transgressions, nor future ones. :)

I watched the segment again and his ideas re Bledsoe were if he gets the protection, he'll be fine, but he'll be abysmal otherwise. Nothing new.

The most interest takes were re Julius. Mr Sham claimed he was "a different" (either man or player, forget which) when he returned from his injury. The gist or very heavy insinuation was that Tuna and Mo had broken him down and with the help of Richie and Leadfoot, built him back up into the player they wanted.

We know Bill goes hard on rookies, but it seems that it was an extra heavy dose of the treatment he gave Curtis Martin, and a little of the crap he handed Terry Glenn. The use of the word "shattered" I found kinda shocking..like Bill and Mo were in torture mode - sticking pencils in JJ's ears or something.

Of course, any "helmet tapper" deserves the full inquisition treatment . ;)

Bill and Jerry are working, I'm going to assume, in part because Jerry knows Bill will kick his butt from Valley Ranch to the Jersey Turnpike if Jerry interferes.

With regard to JJ. I'm gonna go way out on a limb and say that Parcells is a strange fella. Now there's a bold statement.

We all knew, even from a distance, that he was brutalizing Jones. If the plan was to break him down, KNOWING that the other guys would be able to rebuild him, then it was darn good coaching.

But if, in fact, Bill broke the kid down..."shattered" him (tough word) without a rebuilding plan, then it was kinda dumb.

The ironic thing is, this is the same coach that said he didn't want to expose Henson to too much, too soon, for fear of "losing" him.

And worse yet, he asks questions, or responds in a manner that leaves the interviewee with absolutely no chance to have a decent response.

Mayock, Parker, Wilcots, Sharpe... that Playbook crew is pretty hard hitting for a football panel. I was afraid they'd all be so beholden to Tags office, they'd be as fluff as Eisen. Instead, they are as upfront as the ESPN types have even been. Or more.

Eisen never probes in an interview, but that's the nature of Total Access. Don't delve into controversy..ever notice how uptight Rich gets when Jim Brown is on? :o:

I can live with it so long as the PR and cheerleading doesn't eke into the two later shows, Playbook and Game of the Week.

Does'nt the NFL network want it this way? I like Rich as well but I agree with you it almost seems like he is working on the fly with no agenda.

eisen is an inveterate a** smoocher. it's the league's baby and they don't wanna expose themselves or their players as flawed mortals. which only adds to the awkwardness and surrealism of the dang show.

i never expected mike wallace - but can't they at least get somebody closer to letterman in temperament.

just a jab or two in the course of the show would help. rich is soooo vanilla it's sickening. tom freakin' arnold would be better.

i'd really like to see them bring in an ex-player like todd christiansen. that guy was dang good and sharp as a tack. what ever became of him? i thought he was brilliant as a studio analyst. i bet he would be great as an interviewer.
