I know this is very off topic but I need some help. I am absolutely flustered. I can not get my Java Virtual Machine to work on anything. I thought it was just the chat room here but it isn't. I downloaded the newest type of Java and I'm not sure if it comes with a Virtual machine or not but everytime I go to a site that is run by a Java Virtual Machine it give me a Red X in the corner (just like when you get a bad picture on here and it gives you the Red X).
I've uninstalled and re-downloaded. I've sent questions to the Admins on this board for help and have had only one reply back. It's not just this site though. I got a new CPU and when I was downloading Java it said something like Download or dont use this link again and Finally after the "Download or Dont use this link again" sign wouldnt go away I finally clicked on it.
I would really appreciate it if someone who knew a lot about Java could assist me because im frustrated and I dont know what to do. Here is a link to what I downloaded http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp.
Will that support the Chat Rooms and other Java Virtual Machine things? Thank you for anyone who can help me out because it is MUCH appreciated.

Go to the base site: http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp
Click on GET IT NOW in top right hand corner. It should check for the proper version of Java.
If you need more help tell me what OS, browser and chipset(intel, sparc, amd) your running.

Microsoft virtual java (vm) is horrible and you may run into more apps where microsoft java will never work I would just suggest going to
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp download and install beta 1.50 jre and install I upgrade from 1.42 to 1.5 if you are not cofortable with the beta use 1.42

Check your internet options, it's probably set too high or it might be a microsoft vm/java conflict in advance settings.

Like jterrell said, it would be best to know what your OS, browser etc. are to determine a solution. For instance, if you are running XP and are using Internet Explorer, you might try:
Go to Control Panel->Java Plug-in and verify:
The correct jre is selected in the Advanced tab.
Internet Explorer is checked on the Browser tab.
More than likely this isn't the solution, but anything is worth a try if it's not working.

You might have to go to your system variables and set up a new environment path to point to your JVM.

I don't know if this'll help or not, but what version of IE are you running?
If its 6, pull down under tools to Internet Options, then click the Advanced tab. What is checked under the Microsoft VM heading?
You should have 1 checkmark, next to "JIT compiler for Virtual Machine enabled."

Also, some site that require Java will let you download older version of the jre (java run-time environment), that might work better on your machine, especially if you dial up. You can have multiple java versions installed on your PC, and they both show up in your Control Panel.

When I clicked dont trust this or what ever it says when you get on a new cpu it has been nothing but a Red X.When are you getting this? Every time you try to go to the chat? Only once after each reboot when you try to use the chat? Or was it when you downloaded it? What exactly is it saying on the window/screen when it asks you whether or not to "trust" this? What company is it showing when asking you to trust them?
I'm sorry I haven't been more help but for me and everyone else I know, we just download the Sun java RE and everything works afterwards.
It has been so long since I downloaded it that I don't remember what happens during the download process. I'm starting to wonder if it is because you keep saying "no" to the trust window. However, I don't want to tell you to say "yes" without knowing exactly which company is asking you to trust it since it could be spyware, advertising, etc.
If you'll answer my above questions, it will really help.

I thought I was reading it wrong earlier....but if he is saying "NO" he does not trust when asked..then chances are it is not going to install the programming.
But like you I am not sure which one he was talking about.

They also have a test page that will tell you what you have or don't have with instructions to fix any problems.

I've been messing around with it for the last hour and I still can not get this stupid thing to work and im getting to the point im getting frustrated. I dont know what to do.
I used the JVM tester and it gives me the Red X on that and I followed the options and everything was enabled that was supposed to be and it still wont load the page. Just a Red X..............
