Jones & Parcells have a much higher opinion of this current roster than we as fans do

I know fans always want the quick fix but everything Jones & Parcells have done in free agency & the draft points to the fact that they think the current roster is good enough to get to the Playoffs again this year. They might be right, but I think some of the success last year was luck. Injuries went our way the entire year, we were able to play the Falcons and Jets without their starting quarterbacks, the Giants and Redskins unexpectedly fell apart..... let's face it, the Cowboys got a lot of lucky breaks last year.

Everything Jones & Parcells has done though this year points to the fact that they are confident with the current roster. This is no rebuilding project, they simply think we're good enough to win the big one now.

-- There were a ton of corners in free agency but Dallas didn't pursue any of them including their own incumbent, Mario Edwards. Dallas obviously thinks Pete Hunter & non-1st round draft picks will be good enough in the secondary this year.

-- Dallas only tried to pursue Adam Meadows to fix the crippled offensive line. Dallas must think that Torrin Tucker, Kurt Vollers, and Andre Gurode are hidden talents.

-- Dallas thought the quarterback position was good enough to draft a project like Henson. Henson is someone you take a chance on for a huge payoff when you're happy with the current QB play.

-- Dallas thinks that they'll be good enough at RB with Hambrick, Anderson and any later drat picks this day to skip a sure 1st round pick with Steven Jackson. They're so confident that they're willing to put off a first round pick until next year.


This doesn't look like a team rebuilding or making an "Eagles-esque" run this year for the Super Bowl. This looks like a team that thinks it's pretty damn good already and doesn't need to reach ANYWHERE. They could be right. The defense was awesome last year but don't count on every starter being healthy for a second straight year. I hope they're right and not being a major player in this year's free agency or draft class pays off but I think it's a dangerous strategy considering how lucky we were in so many wins last year.

I keep thinking about an article written after the season -- I think it was by Pastabelli -- saying that he heard that despite what others thought, Parcells thought this roster only needed minor tweaking, not a major overhaul. Everyone -- myself included -- thought that was crazy... But maybe it wasn't.

It's not crazy, our defense wasn't that bad to begin with the only problem was pass rushing and now we might have that with Wiley opposite of Ellis. RB position will get filled, the only problem after that maybe the OLine.

WR is thin...Bryant is a huge question mark...Glenn is decent but I don't see him as being of starting quality.

QB is still a question mark...or we wouldn't have gone after Henson.

CB on one side is a problem.

Roy Williams is still playing out of position.

The defense doesn't get enough turnovers...we've had that problem for years...

The offensive line is a question mark in 4 of the 5 positions.

We have zero quality starting RB's.

We dont even have a punter...and I'm not exactly confident in Cundiff either.

I didn't say it was a good or bad move but that it looks like the Cowboys think Hambrick is better than we as fans do. They trade down and decrease their chances of grabbing a good running back. Jackson and Jones are gone. Perry is gone. How many more will be gone when they finally pick again? :( They didn't pursue Duce Staley or Corey Dillon. They really do think they can work with what they have because they're not even trying to rebuild. :confused:

My thinking is there are possible starters at RT,CB, and OG on the roster already. I honestly believe that our two pick in the second will be RB and DT. This is a pretty solid team already, not a Super Bowl caliber team but still a solid team, moreso on the defensive side of the ball and we are positioning ourselves to make a huge impact 2005.

Passing up on the two running backs that were sure to make an impact tells me one thing - maybe Bell in the second, then a OL or DB with the second (3rd pick). Could have plans to get a vet after July 1, like CMart...

Parcells thinks he can coach this team up, much further and deeper than we think he can.
