Mickey’s Ranch Report: Henson seems to be struggling. Doesn’t seem comfortable in the pocket. Romo looks more comfortable in the pocket, but needs to be a little more accurate. The Cowboys have been really lucky with their starting QB’s playing all 16 games the last 2 years, and the law of averages will eventually catch up to them so that #2 QB is important.

Romo Interview:

How’s it going?

Going good. I’ve had a pretty good start so far, and I’m trying to be consistant.

I played golf with you the day before the Cowboys signed Bledsoe, you were thinking you had a chance to win a starting job. Did you feel deflated after it happened?

Not too deflated, because you knew it was either going to be Vinny or someone else. I know they won’t give you the job. I’ll have to play well when I have the opportunity.

The backup position is important when you have a 33 year old starting QB.

Yeah, that’s my goal is to win the back up position, and then you prepare like you’re going to start because you probably will play play at some point. If it happens this year, good.

You went undrafted, and have had to battle that stigma. Do you think you’re past that now?

I think I am. It was brought up a lot early on, but once you’ve been on the field then its just up to the coaches. I’m in my 3rd year, the one where Parcells talks about wanting to see something.

Bledsoe vs. Testeverde?

I think they are similar in big guys, drop back guys. But they are different in that Bledsoe is a little more aggressive and will take shots down the field if he sees something even if its not the primary target. He’s made some really nice throws in camp doing that. Vinny was so consistant that he just went 1 to 2 to 3. Drew is the type of guy who could have 15 completions but throw for 290 yards.

What he like in person?
He’s real nice. We play golf a little bit.

Parcells is notoriously hard on QB’s. I don’t want to say you’re his pet, but it I think he likes you.

You’re right, I’m kinda like a pet. I’m a dog. Seriously, I think he just wants guy who work hard and want to win and are passionate about the game. I work hard and I think he appreciates that.

How long do you think it will be before he makes a decision?

I think it will depend on whether someone grabs ahold of the job. If someone is consistently making the better reads and throws, it could be after the 2nd preseason game. If no one steps up and grabs it, it could go all preseason.

You came close to making the US Open qualifier, what did you shoot?

69 missed it by a shot. I played well that day, so I’m not really worried about it.

Do you even dare bring the clubs to training camp?

No. Number 1, I didn’t want Parcells or anyone else to see me playing golf . The thing about golf for me is that I love to compete, and I love beating people who are good at it and maybe better than me. But once football starts, I don’t need it because I fill that need for competition. I probably won’t play golf but maybe once in the next 6 months. Someone asked me if I wanted to play in the morning the other day, and I thought there was no way I would wake up at 6 am to play 9 holes. I don’t love it that much.

Lowest round ever?

65.

You didn’t play much in college, did you?

No. I played high school golf. I was probably shooting in the high 70’s back then. I didn’t really play much at all in college until the end. Its really just my last year of college and first couple of years as a pros that I’ve played.

Played a round with Bill?

No, haven’t played a round with him. I’ve hit balls with him. Has a pretty good swing. He’s good. He’s right there in the mid-70’s.

From all I've heard and read he and Henson have been sucking big time. I wonder if he's talking about his golf game here not realizing the interview was about FB til later on????
