His foot is broken, he has to have surgery on Friday. He said that the doctor told him it should be fully healed in about 6-8 weeks. Apparently, it's been broken and he didn't know it...I hope he gets to participate in at least 2 weeks of training camp, it'll be kinda hard for him to make the team if he doesn't. I guess AB will definitely have to stick around now...

BTW, Dedric is the funniest person that I have ever met, he has a very outgoing and witty personality. I think his teammates will really like him..

P.S. Didn't realize how short he was, we're almost the same height with my 3 inch heels on :) .

BrownSugar, Ward was known as one of the Jets jokesters - him, Richie, and Ray Lucas were supposdly the three biggest life of the party types. Nice to know he hasn't lost his sense of humour. (just to check, call him "Fair Catch" and see how he reacts). :D

How do you NOT know your foot is broken?

Suspect fifth metatarsal but there are a lot of bones down there. It's easy to miss fractures.

Jobberone, every NFL foot injury I've heard or read of from Wayne Chrebet to Mike Compton to Brandon Stokley to Jeremy Stokley has made as issue of how painful it was.

Quite possible Ward didn't know something was broken, but you'd think he'd know something was wrong.

Fifth metatarsal is what the conjecture is Shickey is suffering from.

Regardless, for a "speed receiver" like Dedric, this ain't good news.

Speedy recovery to him.

Oh well, at least it isn't Glenn, KJ or AB with the broken foot. Pretty bad we missed this when signing him though.

I know a guy who jumped the fence at the Mexican border after they used to close it at certain curfew times. He broke his fibula and didn't know it for a week. Not defending Ward or criticizing the Cowboys trainers. I still think things like this have to be caught.

He either did not report an area of pain, or the break was not severe enough to cause concern. Still no excuse.

I agree...no excuse.

Who's giving the physicals anyway? Can't be too difficult if you can still complete a football physical with a broken foot. I guess they didn't make him do any cuts or anything running, huh?

We don't have enough data to know if Ward hid it, it was overlooked or misdiagnosed, evolved and was discovered, or just wasn't symptomatic enough to declare itself. You can have a fracture that you cannot see on xray that may just show up as a hot area on a bone scan as it heals. He might have had a stress fracture he thought was just a little pain no big deal then it became more than a stress fracture and was found. More and more. It's not just that simple I'm afraid.

Bottom line is 6-8 weeks doesn't sound very long and fractures generally heal. We also don't know if surgery means just pinning it or an open reduction with hardware. We don't have any data.

Sounds minor. Hope it stays that way. Hope this is the highlight injury of camp.

BTW, depending on what it is, you'd be surprised what motivated people can do with certain fractures. So running, jumping and cutting may just have been a little painful for him. Think these guys are tough? Try hockey and rugby players and see what they play through and with.

To me it was, we might need insurance, hey there's a player I know, sign him.

Bad business, thank goodness the contract is not guaranteed.

Not a big deal anyway. He already knows the offense, and Parcells already knows what he can do. He was only here for insurance in case Antonio doesn't shape up or one of our younger WR's doesn't step up, and we won't know if either one of those things are going to happen until well into training camp if not the start of the season. Its not going to cost us anything iif we have to cut him, and we signed him in June ... its not like we missed out on an opportunity to bring in bigger and better players specifically to bring him in.

Good to hear the Cowboys are bringing in some jokers to the lockerroom... I'm hearing too many stories of bickering and in fighting. I realize Parcells likes to push people's buttons and keep people on edge to maximize performance, but we need some type of good cop to counterbalance Bill's bad cop.

I had doctors telling me there was nothing wrong with my ankle even after like 4 freakin xrays stupid freakin HMO gerrrrr (I was in college and insured under my mom no choice)

Finally I told them to send me to a stupid specialist they tried to drag their feet around and I finally started kicking their stupid penny pinching bs arse and got my appointment

Sure enough the podiatrist throws up the freakin xray oh yea you got a floating bone chip right there 5 freakin minutes for him after dealing with crapola for a year

I would just like to point out that this is not being reported anywhere in the Dallas media at this time.

If this story breaks I hope those who say stuff about BrownSugar will get off her back and treat her with the respect she deserves for bothering to share these thigns with us.

As good and decent a poster as we have on this forum and I think she takes too much grief.

This tip is a real scoop if she's right.

That's exactly what he said it was metatarsal, I couldn't spell it, thanks!! He walked around okay for most of the day that we were out, but I could tell that toward the end it was starting to bother him...

Hmph. I broke my nose, and (I was in far too mcuh pain to really pay a great deal of attention, but) the doctors somehow managed to miss what was wrong on mutliple x-rays. I was told afterwards that it was because it was broken in the "wrong place." I've also known people to play rugby and soccer on broken feet, so I'm not surprised that Ward could get it done.

As for BS, she rocks. With or without clothes. Um, I meant heels. Yeh, heels.

Good post Hostile, even if she's not right about something, I don't see why some people want to give her a hard time. She never comes out trying to flame anyone or acting like a jerk.

IMO anyone that looks to give grief to posters for no reason, are the jerks,

I think it is a big deal - it probably means that he won't make the team. Remember that Randall Williams was just signed to a two year contract and the team is going to find every possible way to keep Crayton as the 5th receiver. That doesn't even include the likes of Zuriel Smith (who Parcells seems to like).

Went to doctor and got stuck in hospital for a week with pneumonia and asthma. So what have I missed in the last week?

BTW, BS I hope you never thought I was giving you a hard time. I was only trying to clarify. You've always been a lady with loads of inside info I certainly appreciate. Appears you have lots of fans.

Hope we don't take any more hits for the player's sake and the Boys but I suspect we'll loose a couple of lineman before the season starts and some at other spots. Hope I'm wrong or they are minor ones.
