View Full Version : Abraham - Can we get him on the sly?
That would solidify and bolster OLB / PASS RUSH.......
Would you trade a 2nd and get him in here?
Or better yet Ellis, AlS and a 6th?

Two defense starters and a draft choice for one player?
i'd go with second before i give up two guys who will contribue to our D, for at least 3-5 more years

Is this another gem from your "source"?
Why would the Jets trade Ellis, Singleton and a 6th for Abraham? Did you feed their GM paint chips or something?
Or maybe you see the presence of these guys as links to the 4-3 and you have been desperately trying to get rid of them the entire offseason.
I suspect both start the season on the Cowboys roster. Good chance that they are both not only on the roster, but in the starting lineup.

Before I would do that trade, I would try my luck with moving Ellis to LB... :laugh2:

Unless Abraham can play RT, I'm not interested. I like this defense, I think they're going to be top 3 this year. I'm more worried about the offensive line.

No room on the line for him.
WE NEED PASS RUSHERS
Parcells concerned at depth at OLB and Pass rushers at PC.
Als is a dead man walking long term here, and Ellis is what he is a nice 4-3 DE -

I noticed you have changed your tune on AL being cut this year.
Also Who doesnt get to play if Abraham was here? Ware or Burnett>?

A franchise tagged player can't be had for a second.
Abe was a good idea before Ware was drafted. But his price was too high then, and it is now.
On the Jets end, there is another Ellis in NY.. a player actually quite similar to Greg. Shaun Ellis is a sood solid LDE, who can deal with the run. But he is not the talented pass rusher Abe is..the Jets would have true bookends in the Ellises, but lack enough pizzazz.
Al was, I believe, with Herm and Dungy before Herm left. Were Herm still playing mostly cover 2, yes maybe. But how Al'd figure into "Hendu ball", Donny Henderson's mixed fronts, is pretty much the say he'd figure in Dallas.
Both Greg and Al would find closer fits elsewhere.
He's still holding out - only at a bargain do we add him....
Burnett can be moved inside......Didn't Parcells call him a bubble backer?
Ware, Burnett, Dat, Abraham. Thats NASTY - I know outside the box thinking -
Its a Als for Abraham trade off. Please?

Nors, Abraham's been tagged.
How do you get him for a bargain?
What scenario could take place that would convince Bradway not to get the two firsts for him?
BTW, Abraham is holding out..for a long term contract. Doesn't want, naturally to play this year without that security, he gets hurt again, he's screwed.
That deal will probably get done. If he becomes more recalcitrent, of course he could be moved.
For the price of the tag.

Wasn't Price traded for less than the tag?
Abraham can be traded for whatever 2 teams agree on - I said on the sly.
I have no insider info but Parcells lamenting today about his OLB and lack of pass rushers struck a nerve.
I listen and think. Boohoo'd here but who cares. JA is in Parcells thought process - as an option. Settling on Als OLB in a 3-4 has to be tearing at him....

Singleton is still here and first string.
The play of Glover and Ellis plus the ability of Canty to play DT has Parcells thinking more 4 man fronts might be in the picture.
Nors solution?
Let's trade away the guys that may cause his 3-4 from being ran full time.
So very predictable.

Parcells told you that, did he??
Or perhaps you saw it in your crystal ball??
How exactly would you propose we PAY the guy?? We have some cap room left, but not enough to pay a franchise DE (who is angry because he does not want to play for the franchise tag, he wants a new-- more lucrative-- deal)...
Because of cap considerations, and because I don't believe the Boys would want to slow DeMarcus Ware's development, I'd be surprised if Parcells had actually given any thought at all to this move you're proposing...

I would love to get a stronger passrush in here, but again we're basing things on the first pre-season game. We really need to see how things unfold in the next 2 games before we throw anyone off the bridge.
Our concerns (i'm serious about this) are RT, FS, and WR! I'm so concerned about out RT position, and the ability for our line to stay healthy and our CENTER position it's tearing me up.
If our offensive issues aren't fixed, this season is over quick!

Yah, but the Jets have said they are not interested in trading him, and it's folly to think the situation is so bad they have to give him away.
Yes, any player can be traded for whatver is agreed on..but none lilke to look the fool. An elite pass rusher for two players who fit about as well as you claim they do here? That isn't 'on the sly", that's an upfront give-away.
I have no insider info but Parcells lamenting today about his OLB and lack of pass rushers struck a nerve.

You listen and think -- and the conclusions are hysterical. :)
That Vulcan mind control you wield over Parcells?
It's as dysfunctional as Al's supposed ability - JA probably was in Bill's thought processes pre-draft. But if he can't rush the passer with what he's amassed now, he'll just have to pray that exposed secondary hs been upgraded enough to stave off disaster.
Bill's got a savior...but it isn't Johnny Abe.
He's already here and lines up across from Tnew.

sure they can...the team that tags him can trade him for a bag of peanuts if they want...
you just cant SIGN them away without giving up 2 #1's...the original team has a choice to match the offer or accept 2 #1s as comp...but IF the team that has the players WANTS to trade their rights for less compensation, they can...I believe Tebucky Jones is a recent example...I think New Orleans got him for a 2nd

Abraham can't play DE in a 3-4 scheme. He is listed at 256. He isn't athletic enough to be an OLB in a 3-4 and drop into coverage. Sure he can rush the passer, but he could only play in the 4-3 scheme. He isn't worth two veteran starters that can play both the 3-4 and the 4-3 and a draft pick.

Nors,
How 'bout Owens for Bledsoe, straight up? Thought has to have crossed Bill's mind, no? Bledsoe, even according to the most charitable assessment, is a bus driver type at the tail-end of his career. Owens is a franchise type WR and we certainly need to address the WR spot at some point, by Bill's own admission. Oh sure, others will say that Philadelphia would never do that trade. But we're talking getting Owens "on the sly" here, bro. You with me? I know you are, G. Me and you, man: we know how to think outside of the box!!
