I remmeber Micky saying a while ago that we could have traded AB for Cheifs RB Larry Johnson but Parcells didnt wont to because he wonted depth at WR. Imagine that, with Jones still injured he would have probly given us the running game to make it to the playoffs.

You honestly think we were a playoff quality team with that D? A running game wouldn't have made us good, just slightly better. Even WITH Julius we lost our last game to the freaking Giants. Sorry, Larry Johnson wouldn't have magically turned that putrid D into something formidable, and wouldn't have turned our sad 6 - 10 team into a real contender.

Not to mention that if Johnson played slightly better than George we might not have had Julius explode like he did late in the season.
It took Johnson how long to earn any playing time in KC?

Yeah, playing behind a guy named Priest Holmes will do that to you....

Yeah, and he needed an injured Holmes AND Blaylock to get any carries.
He was on the block for a reason.;)

Would have been a good trade.
I remember thinking the same thing at the time but assumed BP wouldn't consider it because I had heard about character issues with Johnson.
Johnson is gonna be a machine once Priest moves along.

We make that trade for Larry Johnson instead and yea maybe we win a game or two more....
Then we end up having around the #16 pick instead of the #11...and we miss out on Demarcus Ware...
everything happens for a reason.

LJ is not that good.
KC has a great system for backs almost like Denver's.
LJ was a whining, snivelling bust when the trade could have taken place.
LJ was really just a kick returner.
If anything recent developments make that trade null and void because we have a similar player in TT trying to make it as final RB. LJ was a real problem child until all of 6 weeks last season. Lets see how he plays this year before getting all weepy.

If Vermeil had LJ wearing diapers Parcells would have scarred the baby for life.

If we had brought in LJ then Julius would have been moved to IR. We'd be sitting here thinking "wow, JJ did great with the 2nd team in that preseason game. But how many carries is he going to get behind LJ?"

This would have been swapping one attitude issue for another.
Until Holmes got hurt last year, Johnson was almost becoming a disruption because he was not getting playing time. Then, once he got plugged into Holmes' spot, he was fine.
I saw an interview with him recently and he seemed very content, because he knew he would be starting soon because of Holmes' age.
If he came here, he would be battling Julius Jones. That is a fact. And if he lost, we basically had ourselves another P.O.ed player.
Even though his talent was intriguing, I think we knew we had a good one in Julius and nixed the trade. And in hindsight, we did the right thing.
It just gets tiring to hear people continue to complain about Antonio Bryant and how we did not get fair market value for him. Well, when something is damaged, you discount it if you want to sell it. That is all there is to it.

So Priest Holmes is just a system running back right?
In some cases, yes.
He was just another guy with the Ravens. He was not the TD machine he is in KC. And I bet Johnson is JAG elsewhere.

Well, we'd be a worse team.

I have a hard time believing this rumor has any merit. I remember it was an internet rumor that someone asked Mickey about on a Ranch Report.

As a straight up trade I doubt it had legs. If the offer was made by KC they must have wanted a high pick back as well. You don't give up on a #1 pick that quickly. Also, this offer supposedly was made after AB had his blow up with Tuna. Who is going to give you a good trade under those conditions?
More plausible was the other KC rumor. Two 5th round picks for AB. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll be wishing we had those 2 picks when Quincy Morgan is demoted to 4th string.

Wasn't Emmitt Smith a system running back? Aren't all running backs a product of their system. When did this "system running back" turn into a negative thing? Who was the running back that started people thinking this way?

Of course Holmes got better. But when backs can get plugged into a system and replicate numbers over and over again, you have to acknowledge the impact of the system, particularly a non-traditional system like what the Chiefs use.
The Broncos are a classic example. They can take ordinary run-of-the-mill FBs and make them 1,000 rushers (Gary, Anderson,Droughens).
And a system RB is not a negative thing. But the fact is, we don't have a system to plug any old JAG into. If we did, then this trade might have made more sense. We would have "depth", but disgruntled depth.

There was also that little thing about KC not wanting to get rid of Johnson when it was said and done with. It just took a little time for Vermiel's diaper remark about Johnson to cool off. That trade was never going to happen.

Who cares?
It is so much better to be sorrowful that we gave up such an elite talent in Bryant and got nothing in return.
