View Full Version : Whats the story on Peterman?

I really thought he would come in and make some noise this year- so far he is doing squat. I doubt BP even thinks he is a good backup right now. We are OK probably at one tackle slot as regards backup since we have Vollers, but what about guards? Gurode is now the guy at center either as starter or backup; really do not want to rely on him at guard except maybe one game or so. With Rogers RIP, Tucker Toast, and Peterman petering out, our depth is not what it looked like a week or so ago.

I think it is Peterman's inability to step up that is holding up the Allen to RT move.

That and LA doesn't have the quickness to play RT

Peterman is basically a rookie this season, why would you have any expectations of this guy being a real contributor? He was fat and out of shape when he got here and then injured himself...if he can get into good enough shape to make the team, you have to be happy with that. Maybe next year he can challenge Allen or Rivera.

Ummmm, Al Johnson maybe, Gurrode? G is the easiest spot on the OL. We heard some good things about Peterman in the off season and camps, but now nothing. If the RT posistion looks bad this week, there is little doubt LA will be moved. We'll likely find out about Peterman real quick at that point.

Just who do we have that can play WELL at guard now outside of Rivera and LA?

I started an entire thread talking about how horrible Vollers was in the AZ game...flat out horrible! OK at swing tackle now that Rogers is done....we are screwed if Adams or Petitti go down!

Petterman was getting very good press when training camp began. They said he was dominate. What happened since then? When did he get injured?

OK, well it sounds like we have some people down on Peterman.
I would not be one of them, but I do want to watch him some more this pre-season.
Yes, he did make a couple of mistakes in the Arizona game.
He had the one false start, and twice missed his man. Once resulted in a tackle for loss, the other a holding penalty. Both times the DT quickly shot the gap between him and the Center.
If you watch him in that game the rest of the time he did his job, and sometimes dominated his man. He easily showed that he can get good leverage, and if he gets his hands on you and square, his man is done.
For really his first game, I was pleased at what I saw. Need to see more though.

He had the one false start,
Wasn't it on the possible winning FG attempt though?

Good assessment. I watched the game and then replayed it to see the OL play, especially looking at Pettiti and Peterman. Your grade of Peterman is spot-on with what I saw. I would add that he never let up on a play, seeming to give an all-out effort. On one play he knocked a player on his butt and followed him to the ground with a viscous looking forearm. He will sit behind the All Pros for now, but keep an eye on this kid.
As for his penalty on the field goal attempt, he jumped at movement from the defensive side of the ball -- same as Crayton and Pagel did earlier in the game. Parcell's will correct these mistakes of inexperience.

Peterman has not exactly shined in camp though. I have not seen enough that would make me in any way comfortable with him playing a lot.

Not necessarily. Remember, LA is the LAST resort. There are still a few tackles out there who are better than anything we have, such as Ross Verba, etc., plus some of the cuts that are bound to happen the next few weeks.
I just don't have nearly the faith in LA making the switch as I did before he missed the 1st few days of camp for being out of shape.

Ben Noll has been the disapointment at OG, not Peterman.

I agree Cogan,
To me, LA is NOT a option at RT...
Lets see how Pittdawg's son Rob does with a lil practice now at RT on Monday night...

The Cowboy Blog has had a lot in there- just today he was not looking good.

This is coming from a layman that doesn't really know much about line play, but when I see Peterman, I see a guy who seems really limited athletically. He looks strong and feisty, but doesn't look very athletic.

Agreed, I see a small pudgy, hard working guy that is basically a rookie...everyone should quit their Larry Allen Right Tackle delusions because we have no one that can step up at guard...
Maybe he will pan out with more time and experience but he's not ready for 05-06...

Noll might be the least talked about guy in Cowboys history, whether it be by coaches, players, media, or fans, yet when Parcells says something about him it's usually positive. I've never heard word one of him doing anything negative and don't recall hearing of or seeing his play.
Are we sure he really exists?

NOLL the GHOST GUARD.
20 years from now it will be legendary about the Invisible Man who played Guard- but never really existed.....

 How could allen to RT possibly be a good move? I am amazed that people ever suggest this. He can do a decent job at LG, but will be a subpar player at RT b/c of speed. why not have at least one side of the line be dependable? I know the answer to that is what does it matter if the left side is nailed down if there is an open door on the right, but I am not sure that wouldn't also be the case with Allen at RT
