At the risk of starting a trade ellis, cut singleton tirade, did they honestly make a single play last night?

Yes they did. Ellis beat pro-bowler Walter Jones and hit Wallace while he was throwing the ball. The ball should have been picked off by Henry.
Ellis is learning a new position. He has to get used to the nuances. He will be okay.
Singleton had a good play on the goal line. Dropping into coverage and then stepping up to make the shoe string tackle on the flare pass. Basically, did what he had to do. Pretty much the story of his career. Nothing flashy, but solid. Burnett will replace him before long anyway, but he provides nice depth/leadership for now.

Glad you brought this up. I've been thinking along the same lines. Suggest a larger list of who the Boy's might trade. I see where the KC Chiefs (for one) are unhappy with their offense, so how about trading: Henson and Q. Morgan along with Ellis and Singleton. I hopre they cut Rogers and sign Gragg. Also think they should package players and send them to the Jets for Abraham.

Ellis is playing fine...he's holding the point of attack well vs the run, which si what he's supposed to do...he got W Jones pushed back several times that I saw...

Did Canty? Did Glover or Roy Williams? Did anyone besides Ware?
Lets trade / cut them all!

I hadn't heard that about the Chiefs. If they have any tape on Morgan, they would know that he can't help their team.
I know nothing about Gragg. Team definitley needs help at RT.
How do you think Abraham will help the defense? He is smaller than Ellis, so I can't see him playing DE in the 3-4. I also don't see him sacrificing his sack stats to take on O-linemen to allow the linebackers to get the sacks. With the young guys Spears, Canty and Johnson and veterans Ellis, Glover, Ferguson and Coleman, the defensive line is set. I don't see Dallas pursuing a big contract guy to add to the line.

I thought Ellis played well last night. He had good push and seemed quicker than I remembered.
In the 3-4 if you don't hear the guys name he's doing good.
As for Al, I thought he strugled in pass coverage, but then all of our LBs (except Ware) did. He did make a few nice adjustments in run support.
BP put a lot of pressure on Al, Dat, and Brady last night. Ware was given free rain to the backfield several times and Al was up on the line but had to drop back into run support at the start of the play to disquise the blitz.
You take a 3-4 and rush one of your linebackers the other 3 have to shift and cover a little more. On several plays we actually rushed both outside line backers while they were running between the tackles. On those plays if you don't give up 5+ yards your guys in the middle did really well.
I thought we held our own... But I would like to get a little more speed at OLB opposite to Ware.

I could maybe see Morgan being traded but I really doubt it. 1/2 a season and 1/2 a preseason is a bit early to give up on a guy in my opinion. As for anyone else it'd be a bad move. We need all the depth we can get at this point, especially on D. Good teams have depth. We have not had it lately and it'd be nice to have some for a change.

My point is to trade those players who have some value. I think Parcells wanted to upgrade the defensive line or else he would not have stocked the players he did. Seems to me that the future line includes Canty, Coleman, Spears and ???. Abraham has a lot of experience in the 3-4 defense and he's an All-Pro so don't compare him with Ellis. Also, the Boys' need another OLB to complement Ware and who cover receivers. Last night's game showed a glaring weakness in OLB's covering slot receivers!

They are both solid players. Maybe not flashy and bound for Canton, but you could do a lot worse. Would you rather have Ek back in Ellis's place. I would not. Remember you cant have superstars in every position. You have to have the role players, solid contributors. Ellis defines that role. The day Ellis is traded is the day our D gets a little worse. I highly doubt we would get back better then ellis/Singleton for ellis AND singleton. Lets keep em, they are known quantities and we can count on them to show up every sunday. Good attitudes and great team players. You could do a lot worse then Ellis and Singleton. Really.

Morgan has the trade value of Pete Hunter. We might get a conditional 6th for him.

I doubt we will see many trades at this stage, teams know everyone has to make their roster cuts why trade for something you can get for free.

Good one :)
Our defense is still a work in progress. We still have time.

Very good point. Besides, part of managing a team these days is keeping an eye towards the future without completely relying on inexperienced players. Even though these guys may not be in our long-term plans it's essential to have such transitional players for the sake of continuity and consistency.

Ellis plays end in a 3-4, he just isn't going to be able to make big plays in that scheme. From waht I saw he did his job, by pushing the tackle back to support the run game and helping to push back the pocket

3-4 dlinemen rarely put up big sack numbers that is all on the LB and safeties.
remember in a 3-4 the dlinemen job is to protect the LB period end of story there number one job is to occupy and engage and anything else is gravy. The lb Job is to make tackles for losees and sacks

Ellis is a good DT, no doubt. However, the Seahawk's 1st team ran and passed at will during the 1st quarter and start of 2nd quarter. Sure, they ran toward the left side of the line, away from Ellis and Ware. Nonetheless, they put up huge yardage numbers. Only Ware DID much to limit them or else they would have put the game away.

I don't think Morgan has done enough of anything to warrant very many teams showing enough interest in him to pull off a trade.

Personally, I think he is a better DE.

I agree. That's why I'm pulling for him to come out of this "I got beat out by Crayton I don't want to be a number four guy in this league" funk he's fallen into. This team needs him to play better than get a low round draft pick for him.
If he doesn't pull out of it soon then give the other guys a chance. Better that Merritt, Rector or Crowder get their chance if he's going to mope.

Ware is an OLB he's supposed to make the sacks, the pressures. Ellis is a DE, he is supposed to occupy the gaurd/tackle.

The Seahawks' first team had a rushing PSR of 37.5 (3 for 8). That's not running "at will." And at least some of their passing success was because we stuck with our base defense instead of trying to match up with their three-receiver offense.

What was their play success rate overall for the first team Seattle offense Adam? Or the first quarter breakdown?

Both Ellis & Glover IMHO would be more effective in playing pasing downs when Spears & Fergy come back...
Morgan is playing with a bum shoulder, he is one of the tough guys...Seems everyone (almost has forgotten that)

He still has hands of freakin stone and that has nothing to do with his shoulder

Canty had some pressure up the middle a couple of times on Jones. I hope we see on 3rd down Glover, and Spears on the inside and Ellis and Ware on the outside
