They talk over each other, there is this awful background noise (I guess they're broadcasting live from somewhere), they have horrible radio voices, they are talking about how bad the Boys were last year and how bad they're going to be this year. They are just boring!!!!! The PC should be getting ready to start now .... thank God.

You can listen at theticket.com. Parcells said Ryan, Curtis, Ferguson and T. Johnson (pre-cautionary reasons) are out. He said Spears and Beriault are game-time decisions. He said Bledsoe will start followed by Romo and Henson. He wants to get his 1st team OL quite a bit of work on Sat. He is working hard on putting together the 53-man roster. He is contemplating all of the potential contingencies that could take place between now and the start of the season.

Newman will get a chance to return at least 1 punt. Crayton will get a couple of shots at is as well. Thompson will continue to return kicks and Glenn will return at least 1 as well. Robinson will get more chances to snap tomorrow night.
They are working on bringing in another kicker. He wouldn't say who it was because of the logistics, only that he was from Jacksonville. He would like for him to be available for the game tomorrow, but he doesn't know if he will be here in time. He said its Cortez's job to lose.

True, but there goes the three year development rule. He will not cut Henson until htree years are up. No way will they place him on the PS either, he wouldn't last five minutes.

Maybe not, but you can't go into the season with only two QBs. Henson wouldn't make it to the practice squad and you'd still have to bring in another QB. It doesn't make sense to me they would cut Henson at this point. I only got to hear the end of the PC, so I can't comment on whether BP was hinting at cutting him or not, but I think it would be rediculous if they did.

08-26-2005, 02:43 PM
Does this sound like they are planning on releasing him?
At this point, are you disappointed in Drew Henson?
I would have liked to seem him press Bledsoe more, if I was making my Christmas list. I think everyone would like for him to be more comfortable back there in the pocket. That’s really the issue at the moment. His skills as far as size and arm are undeniable as far as being prototype. But he’s got to get better. We’ll be very patient with him. QB’s don’t just land here, they evolve. If we be patient here, and Bledsoe allows us to be, we’ll see the Henson we want to see down the road.
I’ll speak for the consensus of observers that I talked to at camp, they all say Romo should be the backup.
I’d like the benefit of watching them on Saturday and Thursday before I say anything on that. The key thing for that #2 when they get into the game is to not make the bad plays. Now, if Drew Henson were our #1 QB, we would game plan to his strengths. Just like we did with Quincy. But by the same token, we got to go to the one that doesn’t make the bad plays. I know that’s a cliché, but at the end of the game the other night Romo kind of threw the ball in the air and that’s the kind of thing you want to avoid. You’re better off with a little less ability and arm from that position than a QB who makes bad plays. That was the #1 thing we had with Troy Aikman, he just never made the bad play.

08-26-2005, 02:43 PM
There is no way Henson would make it to the practice squad. Someone would pick him up. Jerry has control over the 53 man roster and I just don't see any way that he would allow Henson to be cut. Not gonna happen.

The Redskins already made their stupid QB move this offseason so who else would take him, considering how bad his TC has gone? The Bears might but doubt it.
And he said VT is done with FB "He Thinks" when asked about bringing VT back.

He didn't hint at all to getting rid of Henson.
He was asked which is harder to swallow... letting a player go that turns out to be good for someone else or keeping a player he thinks will be good and having that player not pan out.
He said the latter because sometimes, if you have a really good team, you have to let some good players go.
That says to me if he had 4 really good QBs... he'd have to let a good one go out of necessity. He currently would be lucky to have one really good QB.

I think I read that Pittsburgh is only going into the season with 2 QB's since they have Randel El who could play in an emergency. We could do the same thing with Crayton. Actually, maybe not. But it would save us a roster spot for another Lineman on either side of the ball.

I missed the first parts of it becasue of the delay.
Bariault – The question is can I count on him? Maybe I can manage it, but then again maybe I can’t. The worst case scenario is to stick him on the roster when I can’t even use him.
Who gives you a recommendation on that? A Doctor?
I gotta go by what I see.
Would you like to use this 3rd game as dress rehsersal?
I normally do, but with this short week, with 38 hours after a MNF when you’re practicing again you’re in a quandary. We had all those injury waivers, all the moves. I couldn’t prepare my team to be at optimum operation. I practiced twice, practiced longer today to give us a better chance. I’m not crying about it, it’s the way it is.
So do you have to use the 4th preseason game, instead of just brushing it off?
Maybe the case. I got to get the people that count game ready. Im going to play some guys a little longer tomorrow. Not all the starters, but a few certain guys. On defense, I only got 3 nosetackles. I don’t want to wear Glover out. So some of the young guys are going to get a lot of snaps.
Return game?
I’m going to use Newman for 1 punt return. I’ll use Crayton for a couple. I’ll give Jeff Robinson more work. I’ll use Tyson on kick off returns, but you may see Aaron Glenn in there too.
Either/or guys playing tomorrow night?
One of those guys isn’t playing tomorrow night. We’ll have quite a few less players here next Tuesday. But we only have to get to 69 players because of the European players and roster exemptions Julius and Crayton. You wanna start getting things sorted out right now with 53 players in mind. I’m thinking about 53 now, almost exclusively. There are 3 to 4 either/or guys, and the rest of them I know what I’m going to do.
Any sign that a kicker finds it in his 4th or 5th chance in the league?
I’ve seen it happen historically. But we’re still looking. We may have a new kicker tomorrow night. I’d tell you who it was, but I don’t know where we are logistically as to getting him in here on time. Its Cortez’ job to lose. I can’t dismiss his history, but I also have to look at what he’s doing right now. If he looks good right now I’ll put more weight on that than a kid who never has kicked in the league. He’s from Jacksonville, but I don’t know if we can get him in here on time.
Worse case scenario can you see making out this roster?
Worst case scenerio is that I don’t have 2 deep at every position because I’m short. Then if I lose one guy, I don’t have anybody. It’s the same thing we’ve been talking about all summer. You know the positions we’ve been discussing.
Stronger at QB up and down the roster than you were last year?
I think that there is a chance we could be. I don’t know that for sure yet. We could be. Yeah, I think I feel better about it than I did last year.
Do you feel like you’ve tempted fate since you haven’t needed a backup QB for the last 2 years?
Well, it’s a very easy thing to say “Go get a backup QB.” Well, tell me where to get him. That’s what I’m asking. You can’t dial them up. There’s some guys out of work, and everyone says “Why don’t you go get so-and-so”, but you don’t know what kind of shape these guys are in. You don’t know if they’re prepared to throw. They could be playing underhand softball at the firestation.
Why wouldn’t Vinny be a backup?
I don’t think he’s playing any more football. I don’t know that. I saw him this summer and talked to him a little bit. I have a good relationship with him. But right now he’s playing golf at the country club. Its Friday Afternoon, isn’t it?
Pretty happy with what you got at backup QB?
I’m not saying I’m unhappy. Its what I have. I could upgrade every positon. This is it. This is the way we decided to go to camp.
But are you happy?
Happy is a relative term.
Are any of your QB’s eligible for practice squad?
Henson is.
Aaron Glenn, did he have to prove anything with such small size when you coached the Jets?
He’s a better player now than he was with the Jets. Knows what he’s doing. You don’t have to tell him much of anything. Just reminders. With the Jets? Oh yea, him and Mickens both. They were the bobsie twins. You gain an appreciation pretty quickly for these guys when you spend some time with them. You know why they are where they are. I’ve had a few deminitive players .. Joe Morris, Dave Meggett .. you spend some time around them and you know why they are where they are. They have things you don’t see. Now, Glenn was a high draft pick. Everyone knew about him. He had a phenomenal workout heading into the draft. Broke the all time 3 cone drill record. Plus, he’s a high class kid. He’s also in my apartment building, so I have to say nice things about him in case I run into him.
When making these rosters, which bothers you more? A player that pans out elsewhere vs. player that you keep that doesn’t pan out?
A player that I keep that doesn’t pan out. Sometimes when you’re on good teams you’re going to have to let good players go. You just have to. But the ones you keep that don’t pan out, it makes you feel like a little bit of a failure as a coach. But it goes back to what Landry told me with the 3 year deal. That was an excellent piece of advice. It keeps you from being impatient and makes you analytical, but also gives you a limited amount of time to expect results. I think it’s a very good piece of advice. It’s a very fair time evaluation. I’ll say this … If a kid like Tucker would really come forward and be an established NFL player for 8 or 10 years, I would get a lot of satisfaction out of that. I don’t know if he does, or if he ever will without me constantly on him. But if he does, then I know I had a good impact on that guy. Maybe if he was somewhere else, it would have worked out so well for him.
Do you consider Obogu to be a DE or an OLB
He’s really a specialty player. Very much a specialty player. He’ll play in the NFL this year. There are people interested in him. I know that. But to give you an idea, just on this one player … this goes back to what worries you …. Our 3 best outside pass rushers are Ware, Ellis and Obogu … right this minute. That gives him a value. He can play on KO return and a few special teams things. Not an all star, but can get by. You usually don’t get that from guys that size. So I like that about him. Also, he has matured a great deal. Light years since he was with the Jets. He knows where he’s going. He’s got his own business on the side. He’s rock solid. That’s important, because I know what I’m going to get from him. So those are things he has going for him. I’d hate to have him play OLB for a long time. He could get you out of a game. But I look at him as a specialist than anything else. He’s in a category all to himself.
Kalen was an outside pass rusher last year. Has he regressed ?
He’s in a physical category with Bariault. He’s got a physical problem, and I don’t know that I can count on him?
So do you need another experienced at OLB?
Would I like it? Yeah. The only experienced guy I have is Singleton. But where do I get it? Dial it up? I gotta force feed other kids and get them ready to go.
Who starts at Center?
I believe Johnson, but they’ll play equal time and rotate by quarter.
What the difference between that and rotating right tackles?
Nothing . I would do it if it would help us win.
Wouldn’t it be better for Kalen to sit out a few weeks to get healthy?
It’s the exact same situation as Bariault. Where will he be 2 weeks from now? Yeah, it might be better if he sits out and gets completely healthy, but do I really know for certain that he’ll even get much better if I sat him out 2 weeks? I don’t know that. That’s the frustrating part for a coach.
Have you ever made it through a season with a player by sitting him out of practice for the week and then just playing him in games?
Yes, I have. Mark Bravaro, but he was a 7 or 8 year vet where I knew exactly what he could do. So all I was trying to do was keep him alive for the game, and he would not deceive me. He would tell me at the start of the week, “Coach, this is what you’ll get out of me”. He was experienced enough to know. These young kids don’t know. Now I like him. I like him. We’ll see how it goes, but I’m looking on the other side of that right now. If he can’t play, what will happen ?

Its the roster the spot I am more concerned about. It's not a reflection on how I feel about Henson. I think he needs to develop, but because he hasn't played as well as other guys on the roster, he doesn't deserve it and we will cut a player who performed better.
I don't think he's as valuable as most on this board think. He hasn't shown anything yet to the rest of the league that would make him a valuable commodity other than potential and prototype physical attributes.
Crayton presence as an emergency QB could make the release of Henson possible with the hopes he'll clear waivers and land on the practice squad.

I don't think he's as valuable as most on this board think. He hasn't shown anything yet to the rest of the league that would make him a valuable commodity other than potential and prototype physical attributes.

Just an option to keep in mind because some of our cuts are going to be players with the same potential label that Henson has carried aroung his entire Pro career.

Don't know if Love is on everyone's radar. I'm not certain Berryo is. But I'm relatively certain more are than were after Monday. But an injured very low round pick from an obscure type school might be able to survive the waiver wire better than I'm thinking. I'll give you that. And it may turn out he will be more valuable than some higher picks we have.

We hear what Parcells says, they get out their decoder rings and get, "Yada, yada, yada, Henson, blah, blah, blah Yankees, yada, yada, yada, let go, blah, blah, blah, practice squad, yada, yada, yada, Henson is," and poof, Henson is as good as gone.

He also said you have to let some good players go ... "even the Yankees let good players go" ...
etc ...
Yeah he did but it was in response to a totally different question.
He was asked if it was harder on him as a coach to release a player then have that player have a successful career for another team, or was it harder to stay with a player only to eventually have the player bust out of the league.
And he stated it was worse to stay with the bust because if you have a good team you will sometimes have to let good players go, He then said sometimes the yankees have to let good players go and that he had let good players go.

I hope I am not coming off as wanting Henson gone.
I have always believed that it takes a QB 3-4 years. I have stated in the past months that it was Romo neck onthe chopping block this off-season if he didn't separate himself from Henson. He did. And up until that stupid pass he threw up against the Seahawks I believe he was in the drivers seat.
I think Parcells evened the competition after that one stupid mistake to send a message to Romo........it doesn't really matter what you've done to this point, that stupid pass cleared the score board. Romo toss up was worse than any mistake Henson has made this preseason.
I am all for keeping Henson on the roster, but if anyone took the time to create a 53 man roster based on roles and like Parcells mentioned 2 man deep at every role/position you'll see that you'll be cutting guys that have performed better at their roles than Henson and have also shown more flashes of potential.
That is the mark of a bad team becoming good on paper.

People Drew Henson would be snatched from the practice squad so fast you guys would blow a gasket. With everyones take on him not showing anything its agood thing you guys were not making the decisons about Brett Farve,Steve Young One hall of famer and certainly one future hof.Neither of those two came near to lighting the nfl on fire the first 3 or 4 years of their career. Bill Parcells is not going to cut Henson. As far as cutting a player who has performed better thats just nonsense.Think about what you are saying man.If a coach has to cut someone just how much could they have contributed. There is a reason players get cut and it aint because they have outplayed someone who made the team. There are a few exceptions when teams are crunching numbers at overloaded positions but still you don't get cut in the nfl if you have outperformed and given the team the best chance to win unless you have some serious flaws.A possible franchise q.b far outways a player who like I said if your cuttin' him he obviously hadnt shown enough to warrant being on the team.Sorry if this a hard read but I am banged up and I dont care about puntuation or paragraphs or spelling.Have a nice day folks.

"Henson is practice squad eligible" - Bill Parcells
From a earlier post of mine
Bill was asked if something happened and he decided to bring in another QB was someone eligible for the PS and he said yes Henson was....
He also said that they (at this point) were still committed to stay with who they had on the roster........
What is this a merry go round? hey spin it anyway you like I'm sure you will anyway but there is no way Parcells was implying Henson was going to the practice squad. just the opposite is true he stated that at this point they were commited to go with who they had on the roster.........

I believe that Purcells might try and bring Vinnie back but I don't know that he would come back.
I think it's interesting that this discussion has not considered the possability that if VT were brought back, it might be Romo who was cut.
Most here have concluded that while Romo might be ahead in the compatition, neither are exactly lighting it up.
If Bill really is a 3 and out kinda guy, I don't see why it would be so far fetched to come to the conclusion that Romo has had his three and hasn't shown enough.
This is not what I think but I could see the logic if Purcells were to decide to go that way.

It would shock me to death if Henson gets the axe. I just do NOT see it coming this year. Romo could go, if he is deemed to be nothing other than a backup. I also doubt that there is any benefit of cutting Romo and using Crayton as the number 3 quarterback. I'm not sure of the rules on the #3 Qb, but there are some restrictions on that if I remember correctly.

I wasn't even talking to him, BZ. And he started with the "fool" comments etc ...
In other words, I'm not preaching ... nor did I provoke an insult, but he slung it and I responded ...
And it's not like it isn't true either. Dude is a box of rocks. I didn't fire first, but I'll fire back all day long ... and it really wasn't an insult ... I was just calling it like I see it ... if you want one of those (insults) PM me ...
Big difference.
No he did not, his only thing even close to an insult was saying you were twisting what was said to fit your lame argument. Which is 100% accurate, IMO.
You took it personal, which is exactly what you always do, again IMO.

You mean my ars isn't a hole in the ground?
Seriously Dumbsday, Henson won't be named the starter while Parcells is here. His days are numbered in Dallas. He won't put his last two years on the line with a guy who has played only one year out of high school.
Henson may start, but only because whoever (most likely Bledsoe) he named the starter got injured and could not play.
Henson will not start while Parcells is here.
Put this with the other 100 things I told you so on.

Even on forums people do get offended, Ben. I nicely asked you not to include me as support for your arguments when I clearly did not agree. Your response is juvenile and insensitive. Not IMO either. It is clearly out of the norm of social behavior.

I'll state that I prefer Henson over Romo.
That said, the thing that strikes me as almost :laugh2: :laugh1: :lmao2: is, right now, from what I've seen, neither guy has done a good job.
I'd love to see what fans from other teams would say about us battling over who's better; a guy who has never thrown an NFL pass and in this, his 3rd season, is still careless with the ball at times....or...a guy who started one game and got pulled at half time AND spent the entire off season revising his throwing motion...
It really is kinda funny.... in a non-funny sort of way.
