Here's one from our own team, CB Rod Hill, whom I believe was from Kentucky. He would have to get my vote at the CB spot - what a complete waste of a pick he was.

Derek Brown and David Lewis were bigger busts than LaFleur, and they were both drafted higher.

LaFleur (22nd pick) -- 85 career catches, 729 yards, 12 TDs in four seasons
Brown (14th pick) -- 43 career catches, 401 yards, 1 TD in six seasons
Lewis (20th pick) -- 60 career catches, 731 yards, 8 TDs in four seasons

And LaFleur probably was the best blocker of the three, as well.

Ricky Dudley was drafted by the Oakland Raiders

Emtman was a "bust" in the true sense of the word, but it seemed like he was injured for his entire career....I guess that's always the eternal debate - should injuries prevent or put a player on the bust list.

Other busts:
RB Curtis Enis (5) Penn St - Chicago Bears - 1998
DE Mike Mamula (7) - Boston College - Philadelphia Eagles - 1995

I'm with Adam. Contrary to some misconceptions, LaFleur was never brought in to be Jay Novacek, that's more of the role Bjornson was supposed to be playing. LaFleur delivered exactly what most expected--about 30-35 catches a year, a few touchdowns using his large frame, and superior, offensive lineman-quality blocking that served to spring Emmitt for hIs last 2 great seasons, 1332 in '98 and 1397 in '99 despite missing 10 quarters of football.

One of the most devastating areas of the body for a football player who relies on power to suffer an injury in, the back, is what did in LaFleur.

TE Ricky Dudley(9) Ohio State-Houston Oilers-1996

I think maybe Johnny Mitchell (Nebraska, '92) was a bigger bust than Dudley. Dudley, to my recollection, wasn't cracked up to be quite the super star that the headcase Mitchell was supposed to be.

A Bruce Coslet pick, mind you.

Plus, certainly, the Jets earned more than just Blair Thomas on that list. :D

PS. He was a # 15 overall, so that mid first status qualifies his degree of bustitude. But in the talent:actual performance category, Johnny was the king.

I think Akili Smith would be the bigger of the two.

As bad as Mirer has been throughout his career...he did share Rookie of the Year honors with Bledsoe if I remember correctly.

Although Desmond Howard wasn't a great one, I don't think you can refer to a Super Bowl MVP as a "bust" no matter how sparse or inconsistant his credentials may be.

I think LaFleur should not be on that list. David had a ton of injuries. BTW is everyone here to young to remember a dude named Ricky Bell? There is a blue chip bust right there.

How about Tody Smith, Dennis Homan, Larry Bethea, Kevin Brooks, Billy Cannon Jr (not invoking the "injury clause")?...and I'm not going to mention any of Jerry's drafts because it's redundant to discuss 'busts" and Jerry's drafts.

"bustitude".... now that's a good word.

A player can display bustitudosity....or bustitudivness....

He had a better rookie year than Tony D did then his problems with injuries came up and they eventualy found out he had a disease which took his live. I think alot of the injuries and his production could be linked back. Really a sad story imo.

Mario Van Peebles played in a tv movie about him.
Triumph of the Heart: The Ricky Bell Story (1991)

Bell died in 1984 at the age of 29 from the disease

Ok I ranted on

Yeah I got at say one of the biggest was QB Andre Ware out of Houston and drafted by Detroit.
