Watching the end of the Skins-Ravens game here and Theismann-Mike Patrick-Jeff Bostic(?) are talking about both teams.
- 2 of the three had Washington at 10-6 this year, the other had them at 9-7. Joe T. of course had them at 10-6 all along.
- Patrick is apparently a big Skins fan. He said "I hope you're right!" (enthusiastically) to Theismann when talking about the record.
- Patrick said that Washington is better than Dallas as if it were a fact, not an opinion.
- Bostic said that blocking for Bledsoe is like blocking for a statue.
- Theismann pointed to the week 2 matchup vs. Dallas as a big confidence builder for the Skins.
All this was said right before the Skins blew a coverage to let the Ravens go ahead under 2:00.
How these guys can be so ridiculously optimistic about a team that had one of the worst offseasons in the NFL is beyond me. I guess that's why they are doing the Skins' preseason broadcasts.
Oh yeah, there was also a 10 minute rant on why more Skins aren't in the Hall of Fame. They were crying conspiracy. At least Theismann had the intelligence to bring up the fact that Dallas fans have the same claim.

The Redskin defense is good enough to keep them in every game. 10-6 is certainly possible.
I think they'll give us fits. Julius will find it tough sledding vs the Skins run defense.
I also am very wary of our run defense. We must find a way to contain Portis.
Turnovers will be the key though. If we can take care of the ball, then I think we'll be in good shape.

from rotoworld after tonights game:
Patrick Ramsey was sacked twice in four pass attempts Thursday.
He's holding on to the ball too long. It's been a rough month for Ramsey, who hasn't earned the confidence of Joe Gibbs yet. We're starting to love Santana Moss a little less this year

Joe said that Dallas had beaten them 9 out of the last 10.
If you are going to ignore the actual current winning streak, why only go back 10 games if you are going to include the 1 win?
As far as Ramsey is concerned, all three announcers listed his good preseason play as a reason for their optimistic predictions. Seems to me the Skins' offense has struggled and Ramsey has a 1:2 TD:INT ratio in the preseason.

I have seen them play twice and they look no better than they did the past 8 years.
They had one TD drive last week that was not really impressive and they act like they are SB bound.

to be fair, the Skins were tearing up the Pitt's top 5 run-defense, and their D is still tough...
like last year, they'll keep it close, but will find a way to lose it in the end..

Something tells me that this Steelers are not going to be the same team they were a year ago...much like Dallas in the preseason last year. The skins offense did not do anything special and the steelers could not stop them, when lesser Ds have.

:starspinI got your third right here buddy, whos gonna put out the 4th? SKINS SUCK, they overrate themselves way too much. they have an ok D line, ok LBs and barely ok secondary, and I think Im being nice. Their offense, all they got is Portis, its easy to gameplan for a one-sided offense.

The Redskin defense is good enough to keep them in every game.
Actually, the Skins' defense has struggled this preseason, it's their offense that has been surprisingly good...
They're allowing 315.6 yards per game on the preseason, 4.9 yards per play... they have been particularly vulnerable to the pass, giving up a little over 220 yards per game, and only registering 5 sacks in 4 games...
WE had twice that many sacks in the last 3 games...
I also am very wary of our run defense. We must find a way to contain Portis.
The Cowboys' run D has actually been very good this preseason... they were 3rd in the league going into the Jaguars game, and after tonight, have given up 340 yards on 90 carries (3.8 yards per carry)... and that's including the 55 yarder that Wimbush had tonight, other than that one big play the opponents' YPC is just 3.2...
And of course, most of those numbers were put up without our designated run stuffer, Jason Ferguson...
I'll also note that Portis didn't really hurt us too badly in the 2 games last year, combining for 33 carries for 126 yards rushing, with no TDs, and 3 receptions for 37 yards, again no TDs...
Turnovers will be the key though. If we can take care of the ball, then I think we'll be in good shape.
A VERY good point, and one that would appear to favor the Cowboys... on the preseason, we are plus 5 in turnover margin, the Skins are minus 8...

Actually, the Skins' offense has been pretty efficient this offseason, except for not putting many points up on the board... what's killed them has been turnovers (10 in 4 games)... other than that, they have averaged 260 yards per game passing (part of the reason for that is they've thrown the ball more than 38 times per game)... their running attack has been kind of anemic, averaging just under 110 yards per game and 3.7 yards per carry, but they have used their franchise running back very little this preseason...
As for Ramsey, it is a bit of a stretch for those homer announcers to say he's had a "good" preseason, when his rating is 64.8... but that's mostly because he's thrown 4 picks in 51 attempts; other than that, his completion percentage is just under 60 per cent, and his most impressive number is 8.2 yards per attempt... unlike last year, when he seemed to be quick to dump it off, he has looked downfield some this preseason...
Still, Brunell has been the better quarterback for the Skins, and the second Ramsey starts struggling I fully expect to see a full-blown QB controversy in good ol' DC... and while the offensive line has talent, it lacks depth, and once the injury bug bites that offensive efficiency will undoubtedly suffer...

Dallas "Dominance" Defense will devistate the Redskins QBs. I predict several turnovers for the Dallas Defense.

I tend to put a little more confidence in Dr Z's NFL analysis than a couple of idiot Foreskin homers...they've been saying 10-6 and playoffs and 2 wins over Dallas for 4 years now and about none of them have happened.
Sure Wash D is decent, but Portis is OOOOOOOOverated, Ramsey still looks lost, and their WRs went from a decent corps, to almost no talent.
They traded 9 drafts picks to draft a guy who I don't think will ever be a franchise NFL QB. Their starter is absolutely confused by a blitz (which despite their big names on the OL, they still can't manage to pick up the blitz). Their backup was probably worse than Intercepteverde last year (and nearly as old). Frankly, their QB situation makes me excited about having Bledsoe and Romo as 1 and 2.
And honestly, Gibbs looks only slightly more confident and in control on the sidelines than Spurrier did.
IMO, they are a lot like we were last year with JJ, Key, and Glenn injured. The team has no teeth that would make them dangerous. What are they going to hang their hat on? Portis? Moss? Ramsey? I don't see any of those guys being able to carry the mail for 16 games. Sure they'll win a few close ones, but I don't think can string together wins.
We actually now have some guys we can count on to at least inspire fear...JJ, Witten...and Glenn/Crayton if they stay healthy with a QB that can get find them and make a decent pass. JJ, Witten, and Glenn are guys that opposition just has a hard time matching up with. They might slow one, but its going to be hard to stop all. If our OL does a good job on the blitz, we should just about double the point totals of the last two seasons.
And as if I needed to remind the world, the Foreskins haven't beaten us with their good teams against our bad ones for a LONG, LONG time...this year we actually have some talent.
Obviously LT broke more than Joe's leg....also his grip on reality.
I'd put them down for 5-6 wins tops.

Shut down Portis and you stop that offense. Moss and Patten are midgets out there and will be dinged up in no time. The Skins defense will keep them in games, but their own offense will stop them from winning plenty of them. Ramsey hasn't looked good at all IMO. He is on a very short leash......

I was watching the Steelers tonight and that top 5 run D was getting eaten up again. Maybe they just won't be a top 5 D this year. I think they just had one of those magical seasons last year when everything broke right for them.

these guys are paid cheerleaders since they work in the town. they are all homers and don't really believe what they preach. I saw Theisman a couple of months ago and he was asked about the skins offseason/draft. He said he was confused over the pick of Campbell and that they reached for Carlos Rogers when they should have gotten a WR. Essentially said they nothingto address the problems of last year. From this he now concludes 10-6? Hmmm...sounds like marketing and not broadcasting/journalism to me.

ESPN needs to get new announcers, I can't stand Paul and Theisman. Patrick is alright, but Paul and Joe gots to go. Theisman takes every opportunity to give praise to the redskins and down dallas any chance he gets. I actually met him at his restaurant years ago here in MD and all I could think about was when dallas whipped there a$$ on his birthday in 85, score was like 44-10.

I haven't had a chance to watch the skins in the preseason. The Cowboys defense has been impressive showing talent and real depth. Our offense has looked functional but I believe we have some depth problems here. I wonder how the Redskins have looked from a depth perspective. We'll see, but with the draft problems they have had recently they must have depth problems that will haunt them more and more as trhe season progresses. Not taking anything way from our players, the Cowboys 2003 season record was a combination of good fortune and a remarkably injury free run.
