Hutchinson's Release Expected --
Tue Jun 29, 2004 --from FFMastermind.com
Jean-Jacques Taylor reports for the Sporting News that Dallas Cowboys QB Chad Hutchinson is expected to be released soon. He's tough and has a big arm, but he lacks pocket presence and mobility. The team was disappointed in Hutchinson's showing in NFL Europe.

Man I was really hoping we could trade him for something, hell even a case of Michelob lite would be something... :D

Not saying this won't happen, but this is just Fantasy Football stuff. I seriously doubt someone in the organization told him they are releasing Hutch.
Prob just his hunch and he is probably right on.

I usually get at least a 2nd or 3rd for him in Madden2k :D

Madden trades are very fun, it is interesting to figure out combination of players it takes to pull Peyton Manning from the Colts.
Heh lets see, Carter, Coakley, Ogabagu and hmm how bout I throw in Hutch!

This is not surprising if it happens. He is the obvious odd man out. He will be picked up soon after his release.

Why would he be picked up by another team? The guy is unable to see the rush, he led the league in sacks in NFLE by a wide margin for a reason. I'd be surprised...

i'd get used to surprise. just because a qb doesn't make it in one system doesn't brand them a washout. not by any means. he needs time and he needs to work on his vision. guess what that takes?
guess what he's about out of here?
if they cut him i'd be surprised no one offered a 6th or something just for his rights. it's a friendly contract.

If we cut him, they wouldn't have to give up anything for him, right?

well, if he gets cut, nobody will be offering anything since he'll be free to sign with whomever he wants ... assuming he clears waivers.
The best I can see us getting for him would be a 7th round choice at this point, I don't see any 6's coming our way. I'd be happy with the 7th.

as far as i know if we cut him, we get nothing. if a team claims him off waivers, they have to take his current contract also. if he isn't claimed after 24 hours, they put out an APB for his parents or richmond flowers to find him. then he can sign anywhere he wants to, or can.

Well Reef, if that did happen, then maybe we could draft a Punt Returner. :D

Well, I suppose you do have some point in his potential. But after two years and frankly, ONE game worth mentioning, if he is signed it is a bare bones contract.
I'll be glad when he isn't wasting the resources of my Dallas Cowboys any longer!!

I really think if Hutchinson is released that he will get picked up by another NFL team. No doubt he has no trade value as this time but I do think that someone will see him as a project player that just needs more time.

I think he'll be picked up fairly quickly assuming his shoulder is okay. He will fit in pretty good with a team with a good OL that can give the QB time to throw the ball. None of our QBs have had that here and he certainly didn't have it in NFLE.

Somebody with an entrenched starter and crap at the three spot will give him a look. Worst case, he winds up on a practice squad. I would safely say he is better than Stoerner (although I do remember howls for him to start as well  )

i believe he's played in too many games to be squad eligible.

That could be, good point. I didn't think of that. I still think he gets picked up somewhere.

I think he can be somebody's #3... for awhile anyway. I would never put him ahead of Clint Steorner though. The ONLY thing Hutch has that Steorner doesn't have is a strong arm. But it's not like Steorner has a weak arm. That's just not his strength.
Does anyone think we'll keep 4 QBs this year? I seriously doubt Romo would clear waivers so practice squad is not an option for him IMO.

Chances are he could be on a practice squad. It would be hard to see a team keeping him as the 3rd QB right now. He would need to learn the offense in a hurry.
Whatever the case he will have more chances to show he can play it just wont be here. It may benefit him more to go play int he Arena League for a year as opposed to sitting as a 3rd or 4th QB. Its not like he is a real young QB. He is actually older than Carter.

I think many here overrate Romo. He was an undrafted free agent. I cant see a team wanting to use a roster spot on him. It might be dicey tho. If we put him on waivers we can pull him if claimed.

Can he be put on a practice squad since he had so much playing time a couple of seasons back?
I really do not know how all of that works....I also do not know if Dallas would lose roster exemptions (from the NFLE thing) if they cut him.

Stoerner was crappy. So is Hutch, but at least Hutch has some potential. Its obvious Stoerner will never be good and the slight chance exists that Hutch might develop pocket presence somehow.
No, I think Romo goes to the PS. I think he clears. In fact, I think there is a better chance of Hutch getting picked up than Romo.
Of course, I think you will disagree with me no matter what I say, Rack. :D

He's not eligible in Dallas, so I'd assume he would not be anywhere else.
I believe Dallas gets two roster exemptions for Hutchinson while he is on the roster. I think they lose the EXTRA exemption if he is traded or released.

Hutch fumbles more than a blind man juggling sticks of butter.
Hutch fumbles more than the Tin Man playing catch with a .44 Magnum.
Hutch fumbles more than Bill Clinton with a triple-loop bra strap.

Maybe he'll get picked up because it may take longer than 9 NFL games to determine exactly what he can be.
Look at Q, he's already played what 30+ games? He's still a HUGE question mark.

I know he wasnt eligible for the Dallas PS but I do believe once he clears waivers he again becomes eligible for the PS squad of whatever team signs him. See Anthony Wright example.
We will lose one roster exemption but keep one of the bonus ones. Essnetially if we cut him we stay at the same number of players as far as legal limit is concerned.

I really think this is jumping the Gun. Why would we want to lose the 2 roster spots? I think he will make it though about mid training camp then be released.

The only problem with that is that Parcells has said with so few snaps to go around they won't take 5 QBs into camp.
Well, the other problem with that is that a lot of people have champagne ready for his departure. There'll be singing and dancing. My wife will be embarrassed by my new dance steps. She has ear plugs for the singing. I don't drink so I'll have some juice instead of bubbly.
I was wondering how bad his shoulder was hurt. If we place him on IR we can keep him for another year to develop without fear of getting nothing for him. I suspect though that all things considered he'd rather get a shot somewhere than be pushed aside in Dallas.
