The Giants-Saints game, driven from New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina, will be played as part of a nationally televised doubleheader starting at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Monday, Sept. 19.
The game, already moved to the Giants' home in the New Jersey Meadowlands, will begin on ABC, then be switched to ESPN at 9 p.m., when ABC goes to the regularly scheduled game between Washington and Dallas in Irving, Texas. In New York and Louisiana, as well as other parts of the Gulf Coast, ABC will continue to carry the Giants-Saints game, switching to Redskins-Cowboys when the Saints game ends.

Cowboys, Saints to share MNF
11:01 PM CDT on Monday, September 5, 2005
Associated Press
NEW YORK – The Giants-Saints game, driven from New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina, will be played as part of a nationally televised doubleheader starting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19.
The game, already moved to the Giants' home in the New Jersey Meadowlands, will begin on Ch. 8, then be switched to ESPN at 8 p.m., when Ch. 8 goes to the regularly scheduled game between Washington and the Cowboys at Texas Stadium in Irving. In New York and Louisiana, as well as other parts of the Gulf Coast, ABC will continue to carry the Giants-Saints game, switching to Redskins-Cowboys when the Saints game ends.
The NFL said fund-raising efforts for hurricane relief will be intertwined in the telecasts of both games.
Monday was the logical choice because the Meadowlands is playing host to a soccer game Saturday, Sept. 17 and the New York Jets play Miami on Sunday.
The Saints are still waiting for a decision where they'll play the remaining seven games scheduled for the Superdome. The candidates are LSU's Tiger Stadium, the team's overwhelming choice; the Alamodome in San Antonio, where the Saints are living and practicing; or being on the road for all 16 games.
The scheduling does not totally satisfy the other NFC East teams because the Giants get an extra home game from the switch.
"I'd be smart not to comment on that," Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said Monday.
The Cowboys are so looking forward to having the national attention on Sept. 19 that they've scheduled the Ring of Honor induction of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin for halftime of that game.

I live in Jersey. What the hell am I supposed to do now? ESPN should show the Dallas game in the NY/NJ area starting at 9 and then do the switch if it needs to when the Giants game ends on ABC. First they get an extra home game (nonsense - there were other solutions) then they screw with my ability to watch the Cowboys. I know it's not the Giants fault, but I hate them more than ever now.
This sucks for us here in the NY area...Will the Dallas game be on ESPN in our area ?

This is unfair for a lot more reasons than this. First and foremost in my mind is the Giants getting an extra home game. This game should be played as close to NO as possible no as far away as possible. If the saints where playing any team other than a NY team the game would have been in LA. Its the NFL at it's worst claiming to be doing what's right.

Thanks. I've submitted a complaint. Not likely to do any good.
I also pay for ESPN Game Plan on Directv. I went to Penn State, my brother went to Michigan. Courtesy of Tivo, we could watch both games at the same time (3:30 Saturday) or so we thought. Because the OK-TCU game and the Michigan State blowout ran long, we missed most of the first quarter of both of those games.
I have no idea why I pay $400 a year to watch whatever pro and college game I choose.
This MNF debacle is worse than when the Giants game runs long and they delay showing the start of the Boys in NY. Must have happened three or four times last season.

From www.nfl.com:
Giants-Saints game rescheduled
NFL.com wire reports
(Sept. 5, 2005) -- The New Orleans Saints' game against the New York Giants in Week 2 of the NFL regular season will be played on Monday night, Sept. 19 as part of an unprecedented Monday Night Football doubleheader designed to highlight the national Hurricane Katrina relief effort, NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced.
The game had originally been scheduled to be played in New Orleans on Sept. 18. Due to the devastation in Louisiana caused by Hurricane Katrina and the magnitude of the challenges in the relief and recovery effort in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and elsewhere in the region, the NFL announced last week that the game would be played at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The rescheduled game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC-TV. At 9 p.m. ET -- at the kickoff of the regularly scheduled Washington at Dallas game on ABC -- the Saints-Giants telecast will be switched to ESPN in all markets except New York, Louisiana and selected hurricane-affected areas, which will continue to see the game on ABC until its conclusion. Those ABC stations then will go to the Washington-Dallas game.
"We appreciate the leadership of ABC and ESPN in helping us turn this particular Monday night into far more than a primetime football doubleheader, making it part of the overall Gulf Coast relief effort," said Commissioner Tagliabue. "The New Orleans Saints know the importance of rising to help meet the Gulf Coast's extraordinary challenges, and we salute them, too."
There will be fundraising efforts intertwined with the telecasts of both the Saints-Giants and Redskins-Cowboys games. ABC and ESPN will devote other parts of their programming that day to promoting the evening telecasts and the relief efforts.
I just got a call back from ESPN...Good news for the CT folks anyhow. Channel 8 (Hartford ABC) will have the Cowboys game. Only NY (Channel 7) ABC will stay with the Giants game. Where I am in CT I get both NY and Hartford ABC, so I'm cool.

This is a copy of the email I received from WKBW the ABC affiliate in Buffalo.
In order to help in the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, ESPN, ABC Network
and the NFL have agreed to televise the Saints vs Giants game, originally
scheduled to play Sunday, September 18 in N. O. Superdome, on Monday night
September 19 at 7:30pm ET on ABC Ch7. At 9pm the game will switch to ESPN.
At 9pm, ABC will carry the originally scheduled Redskins vs Dallas.
I hope this answers your question.
I'm at school at syracuse, they shouldnt be playing the giants game here should they? it is bills country, even though they are very few bills fans around here.
ESPN called me back to let me know the scoop. Only the ABC affiliate in NYC (Channel 7 here on cabelvision) will be playing the Giant game all night.
Anywhere outside of that market will get the Dallas game. I specifically asked about the Hartford, CT ABC affiliate and they said they would be playing the Dallas game (Ironically about 20 miles from Bristol, CT...Home of ESPN).

Sorry to bump an old post, but I had a question about this. Shouldn't Fox have the rights to this game, not ABC/ESPN? Shouldn't this game be a regional game only? This wasn't going to be a national game before, why should it now? This game should be on Fox in the NY/LA area, and ABC/ESPN should have nothing to do with it.
i guess it could be because its a monday night.

I missed all 1st half!! and began to watch it till like 8 Mins left in 3rd. QT. i was pissed!! although @ the end, the boyz' won the game!!
But hey!! it sux , cuz i dont have DTV, and I only mostly watch the boyz' on nationally televised games. (2-3 times a season) all the show here are BEARS!! ..yuck!!
