Love the stories of the guys who do not quit despite the odds so I am posting it here and good luck to Neil in his future endavors.
Undrafted free agent DB up for comeback award... Former San Jose State DB Neil Parry, who returned to action last fal after missing nearly three full years of action following the amputation of his right leg, is one of four nominees for the 2004 ESPY Award for "Best Comeback". After undergoing 25 operations because of his injury, Parry returned to the field last September in a game against Nevada. Indeed, the moment Parry ran onto the field for his first special teams assignment of the night in front of an emotion-packed stadium was one of college football's best moments ever. Parry later capped his playing career when he was invited to the 2004 East-West Shrine Game where he recorded a special teams' tackle. We had also kind of secretly hoped that some team might use a late pick at the 2004 draft to recognize Parry's remarkable achievement. With so many good players still on the board that didn't happen, however, Parry will be in training camp this summer as he recently accepted an offer to work as an intern at the San Francisco 49ers. In addition, in the past 12 months, Parry has been recognized by Walt Disney.s Wide World of Sports, the Football Writers Association of America, the Philadelphia Sportswriters and Broadcasters, the Jim Thorpe Association of Oklahoma, the San Jose Sports Authority, the Hartford Insurance Company, and the Shriners Hospitals for his determination, perseverance, courage and inspiration. Certainly our staff, and draft fans everywhere wishes Neil all the best in all of his future endeavors. People can vote for Neil, as well as nominees in any of the other 37 ESPY categories, by logging on to the Awards site (http://www.espn.go.com/espy2004/index.html) and clicking on to the ESPY Awards link prior to July 9th. The award winners will be announced on Wednesday, July 14 at the 12th annual ESPY Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards program will be televised by ESPN on Sunday, July 18th at 9PM ET
