View Full Version : Ware was a huge liability today
It's obvious the transition from DE to OLB is not going to be as smooth as hoped for Ware. He was killing us by not containing on the outside edge. He's going to make some good plays to go with the bad, but today was what Parcells was referring to when he advised not to put Ware in Canton just yet.

If I'm not mistaken Ware was in the ball game on the last drive.

He is a rookie, this defense is going to struggle at times all year long....be patient, and when the game slows down for Ware, he is going to be a beast...

...that what Rookies are - liabilities. The fact that Ware is trying to reduce his liability issues on the field means that BP thinks he brings more positives than negatives to the team.

I thought he was a liability on the first drive (getting blocked out of the play, giving up runs to LT), but got better as the game went on. Had good pressure at least 4 times.
All in all, he did okay for his first pro game

If we can win games while he and the rest of Tuna's Ten learn the pro game we are in for some good years.

Where are they coming from? Ware was getting it together. He was not that big of a liability. He will have some growing pains. Im all good w/ that. Let him grow. He had pressure a few times in the game.

Honestly, wick is right...Ware was not effective vs the run.
Not a huge concern because it's a new position for him.
But when Ogbogu was in, the held the point of attack much better.
I'm not really concerned...the kid will put on weight and muscle over the next few years and he'll be fine.

ware did nothing wrong in my book he pressured brees and i don't believe it was his job to contain the outside because every play it seemed that bill had him pinch the inside so he did okay

This has been warned against for a while. Parcells spoke of this very thing last week. Ware is going to have problems. These are the growing pains. But God help the opposition once his head stops spinning and is able to play fast.
Right now, he's not there. But I think it's just a matter of time.

I'll agree that Ware had some trouble containing the outside on the run, but he is a rookie in his first game against the best running back in the league.

Agreed. He got abused on the first drive. Third and 6 and they run right at him and get the first down. He was getting sucked inside nearly every play.
And I agree that he got better as the game went on. He'll be outstanding soon.

Exactly. Troy even said it. He needs to contain better and not get drawn inside so far. He worked his way out of doing things like that at the half. He finally started gettting outside faster after taking on the block.

YOU ARE CORRECT, WHAT A TOTAL AND UTTER WASTE OF A DRAFT PICK...WHAT WERE JERRY AND PARCELLS THINKING!!!! GOD WE SUCK!!!

Ware did exactly what I expected from him. He was good on the pass rush and poor on run defense. It's really no surprise. But with Burnett being out I think it will actually be good for Ware because he will be forced to play on run downs as well and not be just a pass rusher. From that he will learn to defend the run and become a more complete player.

Liability? hell our whole defence last year was a liability. How many times didn't he contain the outside? I saw it too, I am sure it will be pointed out, and i am sure he will learn. I did see Henry, and he earned his money today...
LT clearly saw that Ware was getting sucked up inside and bounced it to the left side over and over. My biggest concern was Ware inablity to get the offensive lineman hands off him. I just am not conviced he has that strength yet. I am shocked SD didnt keep running LT to the left - it was very unlike Marty to give up on the running game like that. Not that I am complaining..but Parcells has to make an adjustment to not expose Ware like that again.

He also didn't get the jam on the wr on that one td. But I ask, why the heck were they not in nickel against the 3 wide out set? I think Ware will have a huge game against the redskins come (next) Monday.

Unless our scheme makes heavy use of the invisible 12th man, Ware was blowing his assignments right and left in the running game.

Ware also had 2 tackles for loss, 2 QB pressures, and a pass deflection

he's going to make mistakes, he's learning a new position it's expected. I just remember him on that last drive beating a double team and almost sacking Brees.

Yea he sucks. What a waste of a draft pick. We should have went with Merriman or traded down. If I were BP I cut his butt tonight and tell him to find his own way home.
Not.

Its amazing to me how some people try to ruin the jubilation of the first opening day win in 5 years by postive not only negative things, but things that hold no water. Ware did just fine. He was a little behind a couple times but he isnt LT......yet.........he still has room to grow, and he will, he still has a little room for excuses, also.......give him, and us fans who would like to stay happy for a while, a break.

Tomlinson had 72 yards and under 4 yards per carry.
Yeah, he was just going around left end over and over for big yards.

A fact that many people have overlooked. Tomlinson is one of the best, if not the best at his position. Ware did a good job considering the situation. He will continue to grow, and contrary to what some think, his transition will not be a slow one. In my opinion, he will develop at a faster pace than what others have suggested. Give the kid a break, don't be so hard on him.

First quarter he made a couple mistakes against the run. AFter that, he was solid. We kept LT under control. That was one of the best offenses in the league, and we kept things pretty tight. I must not watch the same games as some of you.

Ware does make mistakes - but he doesn't make the same mistake over and over - he takes instruction very well. He's playing a complicated role in this defense -- he clearly has the pass rush part down very well. Dropping back in coverage and playing the run will take some time.

He got some pressure, but doesn't appear strong enough to bull-rush the OT. And not chucking McCardell on that TD was criminal.

The guy is a rookie and he'll learn! At least he's rushing the QB and being involved; something our defense was seriously lacking last year.
I think he's got SUPERSTAR written all over him.

I just knew there would be some type of negative spin on the game.
Pettiti was a huge liability too. Witten didn't get many passes. Bledsoe was sacked too many times. Our ST gave up way too many yards. We started off too slow. OL gave up 5 penalties in a row. Newman didn't get a pick. Had to pull Al Johnson out of the game and replace him with the bust named Guroud (sp). Price couldn't pick up the game plan fast enough to even warrant being active. Didn't hear Roy's name near enough. The middle of the secondary was exposed more than once. On and on and on.....
And we still won the game!

Guys, if Ware was so poor on run defense why did we hold Ladanian Tomlinson to 3.7 yards per carry?

He's a rookie, he's not perfect. The first drive he was abused. No doubt about that.
But he adjusted after that and they never ran as well again. But Ware will make rookie mistakes. Most of the great players made a bunch of rookie mistakes. Troy Aikman had a pretty bad rookie year.
I think Ware is still learning but he got better as the game went on I thought.
