I know I posted this and Adam had more stats in another thread. His poor leg was a myth - Hangtime and depth paramount.

Cortez kickoffs sux, our coverage sux. We miss Hoffman and Billy the kid.

Adams stats - We were top 5 pinning Kickoff returns last year. Maybe the Kid, Billy was not as bad as some thought. Combination of Cortez kicks and coverage sux.

Nors, do you have any numbers on Cortez? I'm an amateur of course, but the kicks looked fine to me. I thought the coverage sucked more than his kicks. And twice Cortez made some big TD-saving tackles. Real good form tackles, too.

I'll try and look up tomorrow - Maybe Adam can do his majick. His kicks seems short and line drive. Cundiff's kicks had hangtime and allows ST to get down there and cause more damage. Yes, our coverage was suspect too.

When our Kicker is best tackler on KR we have failed!

I thought the expertise of Cortez was suppose to be his kick-offs? Does anybody know how Todd France or the kid on the PS compares to Cortez??

Cortez was kicking them to the goal line or into the end zone during the preseason. Draw your own conclusions.

Looks like his short kicks worked better for us than the long ones, but I know our coverage was blown way too many times. 2 off the top of my head: a fake reverse that seemed to make everyone hesitate and the other was a blown tackle by Fowler.

It's more important to have hang time on your kickoffs then distance. If you have both, great, but hangtime is better then distance, unless you can kick them through the endzone every time.

Cundiff didn't get great distance on his kickoffs, but he had good hangtime, and that allows your kickoff team to get down field and defeat their blocks. Long line drive kicks w/no hangtime works to the return teams advantage.

But I think the reason our coverage was so bad was a combination of poor hangtime from Cortez' kicks and that actual coverage being bad.
