I am so glad JJ did not spend the money for him.
It is nice to be in a position too still sign FA as needed. Ex.
P. Price
Bingo - It was never a reality. Dude was asking for crazy money. We were going 3-4 - Went after Fergi fast in FA.
Drafted 3-4 studs in Ware, Spears, Canty, Burnett.
There was no Howard deal - just BS.

How did i know Nors was gonna get to this thread? But yea i think he might have been a possiblty if he asked for reasonable money, and the saints asked for a reasonable price, either 1 or both fell through obvisouly
Man I'm predictable, consistent and determined. Gotta give me that!
And the Howard non trade was the best thing that never happened for us :)

What happened to GROZ? What happened to your Howard and 4-3 prediction? = schooled. Law trade for Rogers ????- that non trade sucked - NEXT.
Ellis not a 3-4 FIT - lets revisit that in a year. Canty, Spears, Rat, Coleman are the future there......

What happened to GROZ?
It's still very much alive and well (he types with one hand while the other is waving in the air like crazy!!!)
At least Nors is consistent. Even if he is wrong, he is right because the team SHOULD have done what he thought. :laugh2:
I still say for the right price, Howard would have been a nice add.
Ferguson was getting signed whether the team played 3-4 or 4-3.
Relatively cheap signing bonus, swap Dat. Draft Ware at #11.
Trade down from 20 and pick up Burnett and Ruud/Thurman in 2.
Ellis(Ware)/Glover/Ferguson/Howard
Burnett/Thurman(Ruud)/James
We couldn't have complained about that. Who knows though. What if Ware/Merriman were both off the board at #11? Taking Spears at 11 isn't such a good deal and the team has a hard time going 3-4.
Dallas was pretty fortunate with what happened. I am pretty happy with it.

I couldn't tell you , but I did read that and that was the "buzz". A 17 million dollar bonus is called scaring the hell out of a team not negotiating :)!
Yes, he's a good player, I just don't want to get burned in a CAP crunch again.

It had nothing to do with keeping the 4-3.
Pathetic.

keep trying Nors...Ellis's sacks are coming when we move to the four man front.
When he was playing in the 3 man front, he was being eaten alive by the guard and tackle. And Ware continues to be blamed for the left side runs - watch the tape again, and see if you can find Ellis on those runs to the left.
I love Ellis, but he's just a nickel man in this defense.

They were Ware's fault. Ellis isn't a great 3-4 DE, but he isn't nearly as bad as you're trying to make him out to be.

Ellis also led the team with 4 QB pressures and was solid vs the run again...
but he "doesnt fit here" according to one particular person

Nope. I keep trying to tell you: your predictions have to come with a best-before date attached. Otherwise they're tautological and useless. I too can predict, with absolute certainty mind you, that every single player on this team will eventually (if not now, next year, or the year after that...) be jettisoned in favor of someone younger and therefore a better fit for the future.
With that in mind, let's quickly recap your more recent roster predictions: Ellis, Singleton and Gurode are still here. Oops. That makes you 0-3.

It was a contingency plan.
It did not become a reality because a higher contingency came to fruition in Ware and Spears.
If these guys had dropped off the board then you very well may have seen that guy in a cowboys uniform.
Like Parcells said in today press conference. His life is about contingency plans.
So were Charles Manson and Osama bin Laden...
:D
thats wrong at so many levels I won't even comment.

Ellis reps reduced - team depth at 3-4 DE!
Al LARGE will soon be benched - he does nothing
Gurode - he's a nice backup and role player

This just plain isn't true. I watched Ellis most of the game, and he did two things. One - switched between strong side and weak side several times on 3 man lines. Two - especially later in the game, he lived in the backfield. Regardless of his half a sack, the was almost always the first person back there. And this is a line that held defenses to only 18 sacks last year - no scrub OL.
Edit: In thinking more about that, I have not been charitable enough to your post. Perhaps Ellis was doubled and stifled at the line at times that I didn't notice. Good - if that is the case, it only proves that he is doing very well in the scheme. They can't leave him one on one, because he will own. If they double him, that frees up a LBer, which is exactly what should happen in the 3-4. If he is commanding double teams in the defense, that means he is doing well, not poor.
