Just listened to his lockerroom interview.
He said he didn't even know there was a rivalry between the Cowboys and Redskins!
Hasn't he been in this league for like 12 years?
Said he didn't even know there was a rivalry until the interviewers mentioned it.
Then he went on to ask, "What, is there some kind of a streak going?"
They told him it was 14 of 15 and he said, "Oh, okay. That's good then. Hope we can make it 15 of 16."
Then he said that he has been friends with Michael Irvin for a long time and was friends with him when he (Glenn) lived in Dallas.

How can you play in this league for 12 years, many of those years in Houston, be friends with Michael Irvin, have lived in Dallas before and become a Dallas Cowboy and still not know of the rivalry between Washington and Dallas?

Better yet... how can you be alive on the planet Earth in the last century and not know of the Boys/Skins rivalry? Not to mention you're an NFL player. You must have followed football some in your life.

That just amazed me.

Listen for yourself.

At first, I thought that too.
But he goes on to say, "Honestly I didn't even know it was that big of a rivalry until you guys started talkin about it lately."
By his responses, you can tell he's being genuine.

He's not being a smartbutt.

A rivalry is when both teams are competitive. `14-1 is NOT a rivalry.

Can you really call it a rivalry anymore?

:lmao2:

Anyone remember Martin and the funeral wreath?

Back when the Skins were competition in our quest for rings? :lmao:

Yes 14 and 1 is a lil one sided....

but you can't tell me that of all teams in the league, you don't enjoy beating the Skins the most.

And they would feel the exact same way about us....

if they could ever beat us! (he he he)

That's definitely a rivalry.

truth is, it hasn't been a big rivalry for many years because we have both sucked.
Isn't every team in your division a rivalry? Rivalrys are overblown. Really, who isn't a rival that we play?

I guess you have to live here in Skins Country to fully appreciate just what the rivalry is.

Spend a week here and you'll get a renewed sense of what it means to loathe your "rival".

I loath every team against us on SUnday. To me its Cowboys v. Giants living here in NY.

It's not that surprising. Other than NFC east fans, nobody thinks of the Cowboys/Skins as a meaningful rivalry. So yea it's definitely possible.

Haha! He didn't know a divisional opponent might be considered a 'rival'.

That's ok, it'll be even funnier when he comes down with two picks.

You fellas need to realize that a lot of players were never big NFL history fans. They just happened to have had the god-given talent to play at that level and loved the game enough to go for it. I bet there are a lot of modern-day NFL players who couldn't tell you who Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw, or maybe even Joe Montana were.

Definitely. I hate the redskins with a passion bordering on obsession. :skins: :skins:

I love the rivalry between the Cowboys and the Skins. You will hear on sports stations or magazines that the Bears and Packers rivalry is the best in the NFL...I say bull, the Cowboys and Redskins is the best rivalry in the NFL.
Now sure we would all be bias as we follow one of the two teams but still even the basic beginnings of the rivalry are the things of ledgend.

There may be some younger Cowboys or Redskins fans that do not know how the rivalry began and if you secretly find your self among those then I suggest you read the story on the following link
http://espn.go.com/page2/wash/s/toomay/020314.html

It really is a great story that ALL Cowboys and Redskins fans should read, to really understand the start of this great rivalry.

Now I know there are some of my fellow Cowboys fans that say they do not think it is a rivalry and do not care about the game, for me this seems like blasphemy as it will ALWAYS be the best rivalry in the NFL no matter how many times one team may beat another or how one sided it becomes...it is STILL the best Rivalry in the NFL in my opinion.

So in closing I will say this rivalry reminds me of Ronnie James Dio, while part of Black Sabbath, singing Heaven and Hell...."So it's on and on and on, it's Heaven and Hell".....It fits IMO...this rivalry will go on and on and on and depending if your team wins or loses in the current matchup you will find yourself in fan heaven or hell.

The Cowboys / Redskins rivalry is much bigger than any other two team rivalry that I know of. (Although not recently) Both teams have been to and won the Superbowl multiple times and have stood in each others way of getting there multiple times. Some of the greatest games ever played were between the Cowboys and the Redskins. Anyone who says that the 'Skins are not the one team that we truly want to beat and the one team that truly wants to beat us more than any other just hasn't been paying attention. The only team that I get more enjoyment out of beating than the Redskins would be whoever we beat in the Superbowl.

I agree it is still a rivalry but not as big as it once was. I think the high point of the rivalry took place during the George Allen days and somewhat during the 1st Gibbs go around. Since then it has been so one sided it is hard to look at it in the same light as the 70's

Yes, Glenn KNOWS that the Redskins are our "rivals." He is saying that he didn't know about the rivalry or basically the intensity or depth or width of the hatred.

Every year, the games with the Cowboys amount to the Redskins' SB. Fortunately, they have only one SB in the last 15 games.

These rookies need to understand that Washington will bring their best game and their deepest emotions to this game and last week won't mean anything once the game starts this Sunday. Football is a game of talent and emotions.
Washington will bring the emotion and talent on defense. It will take Dallas's best effort to win. I hope the players won't overlook this game like many of the fans are doing.

A rivalry happens when something is on the line a familiar stands in your way of achieving it. Washington-Dallas has become more of a routine than anything else.

The last hint of a rivalry IMO was 1995 when Washington swept Dallas despite going 4-10 against the rest of the league and Dallas eventually winning the Superbowl. Since then there have been some extraordinary moments, like the comeback win in the 1999 season opener, or Dallas eliminating Washington from playoff contention in 1997. But such things hardly constitute a rivalry.

Free agency and coaching changes have diluted the animosity such teams feel toward each other. Deion, Norv Turner, James Washington, and Brandon Noble went from Dallas to Washington without any built-in hatred of their former team. Bill Parcells could care less about it. All that really remains of this once proud rivalry really is Joe Gibbs, and he's too busy struggling to get a handle on coaching again to cultivate a rivalry.
