By beating Washington? Nah, we always do that.
By beating Frisco? But they're bottom-feeders.
By beating Oakland at their place? Maybe.

Then again, we went 10-6 two years ago and were hardly "real."

I belived we were real after FA and the draft, and i dont think people will beilve we're real untill we go 12-4 and win the SB, this year(or at least win a game in the playoffs...i do have hopes)

For me, where we are as a team in the midst of the second half of the season...specfically when troubles come our way and how we react to them under pressure...that will really tell me what we have.
In the meantime, I like what we have on paper and our potential.

If we take 1 game from Philly and beat KC then I believe we have a Super Bowl shot.

Right now I will go with what I thought before. We will go 10-6.

BP will make some big changes on the OL and fill in other holes after this season. Next year will be our year!

:signmast: I agree..Mid season, see how the team handles adversity and comes back from adversity...Of course the media won't believe it till we make the NFC Championship game...

We took a single step in the right direction last week. I'm not going to downplay it. But neither am I going to go overboard.

Week by week we'll get some feedback on whether it was a deliberate step towards everyone's goal or merely a random step in our recent wanderings.

I don't think there is anything to believe at this point.

We'll be real when we can consistently play against the top teams in the league at home and on the road - I don't mean we should necessarily beat them on the road but we also shouldn't crumble against them.

I predicted 9-7 and I don't feel like upgrading that just yet but the SD win was a very pleasant surprise.

When I watch teams like New England, and a few other good teams, on thing comes to mind - offensive line.

No one comes close to Brady, and if our offensive line has that type of pass coverage, LOOK OUT!!

Sweep Philly.

We've beaten Philly just once in the last 5 years.

really 1 in the last two years, remember before then we didnt ahve a good team or a good coach, and had our defense been any good last year, it would have been twice in the last two years. Dont worry a sweep is coming.

right on, I think SD was beatable, 69ers, Foreskins, Oakland are all VERY beatable. In fact we SHOULD beat the 69ers, foreskins, and buttraiders if we want to consider ourselves as a legit contender.
I think we win those games and then win one or both of Philly and KC....yeah you have to say we're legitimate contenders.
It will take some further gelling by our D and O but its very doable I think.
Our LBs and DBs need to work together better as does our OL. Drew and the WRs should just get better each week, that's a given.

bledsoe and the linebacking.

one game does not a contender make.

so surprise me Cowboys. and this time - in a good way.

Wow, we win one hard game, and all of a sudden we are SB contenders? Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to see it, and will root for them to win each and every game and die in agony along with the rest of you if we lose one. BUT, take the rose colored glasses off and step away from the microphone.

We are in transition, we have TONS of rookies starting all over the place, and our Special Teams look like they are from the Special Olympics right now. SD had a decent D, and they got 4 sacks. When we can pass protect and pick up blitzes, maybe Drew will finish the season standing up and not in a wheelchair.

I'm a Cowboys fan through and through. But I'll take it one game at a time. 10-6 and a wild card berth look really good to me right now.

I think we'll officially be 'good' when Bill says we are.

(which won't be til Dallas consistently beats 'good' teams, I'd guess)

This team started out 5-1 two years ago and ended up 10-6 with a road playoff loss. The truth is, no one will know until after the fact, so in the meantime we root our hearts out and hope. :)

:hammer: Couldn't have stated my position any better than than this. While I am FAR more optimistic than I've been over any team we've fielded in over a decade, I cannot and will not set myself up for a letdown as I have SO many times in the past. Pinning all of our hopes and dreams on what COULD happen is as fruitless as doing the same on a 'hot' stock on Wall street. More often than not, it doesn't pan out, leaving us all thinking & putting our dreams off for yet another season.

I'll start believeing for sure after the bye week, going into Philly with a 5-3 record or better (totally attainable) after having either beat them in week 5 OR comming very close to winning. How we play against Philly will dictate how our season comes to a close, much like how the Colts have played the Pats over the past few years. If we can't put the Eagles stigma behind us, we'll have to wait for next year.

But then, the ENTIRE league had better watch out.

If we beat Philly at home I think we will have a good year. 10-6 or better.

If by some chance we walk into Philly and pull out a victory the teams confidence would be great enough I would expect a run deep into the playoffs.

I think we are a legitimate Wild Card contender, but so are the Giants.

Our 10-6 season two years ago was defined by going 5-1 against our division and 6-2 at home. For those reasons, I look at Monday night as a "must win" for us.

A December win at home against KC could be a huge boost, and I'll bet money that our season finale at home against St. Louis will have serious playoff implications for us.

I'll believe we're for real when/if we beat the Eagles in week 5. It's the same situation we were in back in the day with the triplets. I didn't think we could contend for a championship until we could stand toe-to-toe with the Eagles. If we lose a close game in week 5, I'll still have hope, since I know our 'boys will be far better at season's end, than they are at week 5. More importantly, I'll believe we're for real if we win the games that we are suppose to win. A sure sign of a not-so-ready-for-prime-time-team, is a team that plays to the level of its competition. If we can dominate the poor teams we play, and if we can stay competitive against the condending teams, then I'll believe that we have something here. Until then, I'll reserve judgement.

When it was 4th and 14 and SD got the first down at the 7 yd line......and four plays later I am jumping around and screaming all over the house......and I thought to myself.......we are BAAAAACCCCCCKKKKKK!

I decided at that time.......this team is for REAL!

After we beat the Eagles and are 5-0 and also believe we really do have a shot at the playoffs. I thought that anyway coming into the season because...well why not, other teams have done it also.

Not sold 10% for a SB shot, but I can hope it just so happens to work out that way :)

I honestly do not think we have all of the pieces to the puzzle right now. I do not think our offensive line has got enough experience and Bledsoe must have protection. Sure I think we may sneak into the playoffs and we may take one from Philty this season but we do not have everything needed to make a SB run.
I do believe we are a better team than last year on both sides of the ball. I think that Philty is not as good as they were last year, the Giants may be coming around to so the NFC East may be getting tighter.
Still it is too early to tell much right now. Curly

depends on what you call "for real":

a good young team with the best ahead of them in future years...they are for real.

a good young team with a shot at going 9-7 and maybe sneaking into the playoffs this year...they are for real.

competing for a division title, a first round bye, being a team that can go 11-5 or better???....I'll believe they are that "for real" if we get to the halfway mark with 6 victories.

If we are 5-0 or 4-1 after the Philly game, I may be convinced :D
