The Nickel? Early 90's Woody played in the dime at LB giving us 7 DB's at one time we were one if not the first team to do this. We have Glover, Ware, Spears and Canty/Ellis. Dat and Roy at LB. Glenn, Newman, Henry, Davis and Reeves as our nickel safety any thoughts?

Hm, I kind of like that idea actually..... maybe put Roy at LB on nickel and dime defenses... interesting. they'd have to be OBVIOUS passing downs or Roy would get eaten up by a lineman....

This would almost be to creative for some to grasp. This scheme worked well.

There are 4 down d-linemen in the nickel package. Roy shouldn't get touched by an o-lineman at all.

It would be good for those 3rd and 25's

I dont know, it sounds like a good idea. I wouldnt do it more than a couple tiomes each game, but it could work pretty well. We have guys here that are very talented, talented players have the ability to adapt to and execute new new ideas. That is obvious if you look at how smoothly we have transitioned to the new base defense.

Bill Bates played that same position also I belive.
I may be mistaken but I think -
We have used Roy at LB in some 3rd and long packages in the past. And it was Dixon, Scott chasing WR's into the end zone......

put him at LB period b/c hes terrible in coverage. his fault we lost, single handedly
sorry for some of the irrelevance but this is my first post to vent

Currently, Roy may be a pretty good linebacker, but he is indisputably our best safety. We have no solid replacement for him if we move him to linebacker in a pass defense.

Can Roy play as a LB? I know Woodson was a LB in college, just wondering....

Forget that, we need to start him at nose tackle, maybe punter. Y'know Julius had a mediocre game, let's put him at cornerback!
