This Hurricane looks like it might build up to be a category four just wondering if this Hurricane would have a Impact on the DFW area if it would hit Galveston and move northernly towards the dallas area. Could this possibly still be a two with the eye On dallas?

You might get some rain out of it, but if you live in anywhere south of Central Texas, theres a chance you might be hating life for a couple of days.

If it hit's as a category 4. Then yes it could be a category 1 or 2 when it reaches DFW. Dont wash your car this weekend.

Plus, Dallas is too dry and hot. Hurricanes don't like that type of weather. As soon as it hits the coast, this hurrricane will lose strenght quick. futunately, our state has competent leaders... what ever happens we'll be prepared. This is TEXAS! we always got our ***** together.

Mods you can move this. Just wanted to say a few things ”Texas” related...being that the Cowboys do reside in Texas.
I know most of you live in different parts of the country...but i live in Victoria Texas and we have a monster category 5 storm heading straight here. A mandatory evac has been ordered for tommorrow. It’s crazy here, everyone is panicing after seeing what happened to Louisiana.
To those of you living in the path of Rita...good luck.

Houston is prone to bad flooding...besafe there. I was reading on foxnews about a Louisiana refugee lady in Houston having to be moved to an Arkansas shelter. Her response was ”i don’t want to go to Arkansas...i don’t even know where that is!” I thought that was funny.

I can't get over how big things have been, let alone the frequency of them. It used to be you'd only see storms like this every so often, but two like this plus the ones from last year is just incredible. Even if it weakens some like Katrina did it's still going to be one bad sucker.
Anyone with even a slight chance of being in its path, I hope you get the you know what out of there if suggest or tell you to. These things can change their mind which direction they want to go at the drop of a hat, and a few degrees could mean you instead of someone else gets it. We'll all be praying for your safety down there.

Hey Guys I live in Corpus Christi, and as you all know there is a major Hurricane CAT5 in our gulf and were not sure where its gonna hit? It could be here but most likely GAlveston.. The gusts on this Cane have hit 215 MPH with 175 Sustained winds and with great potential of getting stronger.. It is the third strongest hurricane ever recorded in history, This thing is huge and I advise people not to play around and to evacuate if you are in threat I would love to see no one killed and no areas damaged but the Fact is this Cane is gonna hit somewhere and its gonna hit hard so guys for a while I might not be able to checkout THE ZONE. And I trust everyone will make the right move and leave if you are in threat. Were waiting till tomorrow to make sure where this Cane is heading then will decide.. Goodluck to everyone and stay dry....

Well, that would be me. Rita is expected to cause us some really heavy storms and flooding here in Central Texas. We have a river that runs through town off the lake. We will probably see lots of flooding..
And I'm trying to move into my new house this weekend... :( My apartment had water all the way to my steps last time it flooded here. My house is on higher ground so hopefully won't see any flooding, but getting to it from the apartment is gonna be hard
I noticed a few saying they are going to ride the hurricane out... ARE YOU CRAZY!!! This one is Katrina's twin. GET OFF THE COASTLINE NOW! If you are on the coast and don't leave, there is a really huge chance that none of us will ever have the chance to talk to you again cuz you'll be dead.
Get your families the heck out of there. No house, car, boat or job is worth your life and the lives of your loved ones...

Wow, hope everything works out okay... Fortunately, the latest discussion from the NHC about an hour and a half ago forecast the storm to weaken somewhat due to cooler Gulf temps and increasing shear. Maybe it will get down to a three or so before it makes landfall.

My fiancee lives in Memphis right now. She had extensive damage from Katrina and 70 mph winds. 7 hour drive to New Orleans. Dallas 5 hour drive to Houston. The storm has weakened, but yesterday they projected 80+ mph winds in dallas.
I think that all of that has changed. The storm has moved east, and has slowed down. Hopefully it will slow down enough to degenerate itself. If is going to be a 3 or 4 when it hits, I just hope everyone gets out of the way.

Ok now everyone should know the storm has decreased to a category four today. I looked up some nice information, and their saying the Hurricane might Increase bk up to a five tonight. Their saying it'll decrease again to a four, but a much stronger four than what is right now. Looks like it also has moved more eastern than expected. So the winds should not be a major factor here In dallas area rather more towards the north eastern parts of dallas more like to say cities like plano garland rockwall in that precidation. Well Im In the gp-arl area and were still expecting heavy and major flooding. Fortworth sould not be to worried mostly the gp- north eastern dallas should worry about major flooding and who knows Im not a expert just judging on the information read and map reads.
Port arthur is now the sight of landfall now and here some good info i read about it increasing again to a 5 tonight.
RITA STABILIZES AS VERY DANGEROUS CAT 4 HURRICANE
STORM MOVING NORTHWESTWARD -- LANDFALL THREAT
PORT ARTHUR AT GREATEST RISK OF LANDFALL IN 44 HOURS
SEVERE FLASH FLOOD THREAT THROUGH MONDAY
The eye wall replacement cycle that began this morning is nearing completion, as evidenced by
the improved satellite imagery signature and the latest RECON reports. The central pressure
that had risen to 915mb this morning, is now falling off gradually to 913mb, while the thermal
eye wall temp differential that had risen to 4°C this AM, has risen to 7°C as of 2:50PM CDT.
MAX sustained winds were earlier reported at 122Kts (130mph sustained surface) which is a
CAT 4 intensity -- but in the past hour, have increased to 133Kts in the NW quadrant. It is
safe to assume winds are currently around 140Kts in the NE quadrant, or 145mph near
the surface -- a very strong CAT 4 intensity. The height of the 700mb surface has fallen 10 meters
in the last few hours, to 2329 meters.
The storm is now located near 25.8N/89.5W or 390NM SE of Port Arthur. The storm is now
moving NW (305°) at 9Kts based on the last 3 hours of fixes. The crew continues to report a
double eyewall with a diameter of 18NM and 48NM -- but the thermal and pressure trends, along
with the improved colder CDO signature -- tend to indicate the eye wall recycling is either completed,
or has simply stabilized for now.
The latest 18Z models, including the late , full cycle 12Z run and GFS Ensemble forecast, are
in extreme agreement with a landfall very near Port Arthur around 1PM CDT on Saturday.
The GFS and NOGAPS are to the right of this landfall envelope, showing the storm crossing
the coast right along the LA/TX state line. The models are also in agreement that the storm has peaked
in intensity, and will gradually weaken on it's way to the coast -- making landfall as a very strong
CAT 3 or low end CAT 4. Intensity forecasts are extremely unreliable in general -- as evidenced by
the extraordinary deepening of the storm yesterday. That said -- I believe we will see RITA regain
CAT 5 intensity tonight, and then begin a slow weakening during the final 24 hours before
landfall -- which will come as a CAT 4.
However, because of RITA's extreme pressure and prolonged period over the Gulf as a CAT 5 storm, the
storm surge will be equal to that of CAT 5 hurricane. A tidal surge of 20-22 feet, with Port Arthur
most vulnerable to catastrophic storm surge damage -- will likely cover a 20-30 mile stretch of coast
from the point of landfall eastward, with 13-18 ft extending to 50-80 miles east of the point of landfall.
Gale force winds extend out for over 200 miles from the center -- and gusts to gale force will reach
over to the New Orleans area. A tidal storm surge of 4-8 feet will hit the Mississippi Delta region
over to Grand Isle, LA.
Of growing concern post landfall is the path of the storm after it makes landfall Saturday. All the
global models are forecasting Rita to slow down and become quasi stationary by late Saturday night
somewhere along the TX/LA border about 100-150 miles inland. This occurs in response to the
rebuilding of a ridge to the north of the storm over the central U.S.. The ridge then continues to
expand towards the east and southeast, and is expected to turn Rita towards the southwest later
Sunday and into Monday. In the process, and although the winds will calm down -- the storm will
likely bring over 48 hours of torrential rainfall to much of Louisiana on southwestward towards the
Houston area - after the storm comes inland. This greatly raises the chances of severe flash flooding
over inland areas on Sunday and Monday -- with rainfall totals easily exceeding 25" in some locations
- with 30" or more quite possible in some isolated locations.
A Storm Surge and Wind Forecast forecast Graphic will be sent out, along with a brief update on the storm itself
around 8PM CDT. A full forecast package will be sent around 11:30 tonight after all the 00Z global model arrives.

heres a great website to track the progress of Rita... I know there are many site to choose from, but this one always seems to be the most consistent...this one is even more consistent than military weather radar. Being in Japan, we get 3 typhoons a month, so its important to keep track of weather here.

Corpus Christi, where I live, has issued a mandatory evacuation. Just finished up boarding up my in-laws house. I hope this is not as bad as it looks.
My mom is sick, so I'm staying with my parents. My wife and her family are going out of town. I hope it's not another Katrina.:(
May the Lord's blessed protection be upon you, your family and all in the path of Hurricane Rita. God speed. :pray2:

In my area of Dallas, when it storms, there is usually a power outage. I'm just hoping we have power on Sunday around game time.

Well, it looks like most of central Texas is in the clear now that the hurricane has changed course. Our town is filling up with evacs. The local HS football games are cancelled and the evacs are taking up in the stadium and coliseum. The nursing homes and hospital are now near full. We ran out of reg.-unleaded gas at 6:30 this morning and there are only a handful of places that have a few gallons of gas left. I got told by someone in transportation last night that there were bus loads of people on their way here and were running out of gas along the way. The network news and radio stations had everyone panic'd about gas prices and shortages and they tripped over each other trying to fill their cars last night. It was crazy. I've never seen anything like it. I feel for those in the path of Rita. Good luck to you all. If any of you are heading to the Brown county area and haven't left yet, PM me. I'll get you my number. You'll at least know someone in the area that way. I might not be able to help a lot, but I'll help all I can.

I found some interesting stuff your not gonna find on no freakin local weather channel here in the dfw area and I might say it's quit amazing if this happens. This Hurricane is quite unordianry from others I've seen now some are saying the storm could go all the way up north to shreveport tx then check this "Turn Around" and go bk into the gulf of Mexico and re intesify and what if this is a big what if when it does that turns around again when it heads out half way in to the gulf and head bk here for a second time that would be freaking crazy. Heres where i gathered this info it's really got me kinda stressed if this were to happen.

- HURRICANE RITA CONTINUES NORTHWEST -
LANDFALL STRONG CAT 3 MAJOR HURRICANE
NEAR PORT ARTHUR SATURDAY AM
"STORM AFTER THE STORM"
The latest RECON and Satellite imagery indicate that Rita has continued to weaken slightly, and is most likely an intense
CAT 3 Hurricane. The last RECON reported a MAX sustained wind of 124Kts, which implies 130mph surface winds.
The pressure continues to climb very slowly - and is now at 931mb. The eyewall has begun to become distorted, at
30NM diameter, and the cloud top temps to the west of the storm have warmed over the last 3 hours. All this while the
storm has been traveling across a deepwater, warm eddy. Environmental shear no doubt has contributed more to the
weakening of the eye the outflow, then the warm water has contributed to the strengthening of the storm. One more example of
how extremely difficult, if not impossible it is to forecast hurricane intensity - short or even long term - except in the
broadest sense. It certainly is humbling. Nonetheless -- there is no doubt Rita will hit the coast as a Major CAT 3 Hurricane, with
the full force of the storm starting in 12 hours, with landfall of the eyewall by 4AM, and the center of the storm crossing
the coast at 6AM.
The storm center is currently located by Radar fix from Lake Charles at 28.0N/92.4W - this is 165NM E-ESE of Galveston,
145NM SE of Sabine Pass near Port Arthur, and 138NM SSE of Cameron, LA. The storm continues to move NW
at 9Kts. A dead reckoning of the storm's forward motion would bring the northwest edge of the eyewall to the coast
near or just southwest of Port Arthur in 12 hours. Sustained winds of 120mph, with guts to near 150mph are likely
in a small area where the eyewall comes ashore
While the most intense winds have eased off -- the size of the storm is extraordinary. Gale force winds extend well
over 210 miles from the center, with gale force wind gusts now reported in New Orleans. Winds gusts to 55mph are
occurring across most of the coastal locations across LA.
The models are in complete agreement on the track of the storm for next 18 hours. By 24-36 hours, the models begin to
go 'haywire'- as the steering currents become extremely weak. The storm will likely track up to near Shreveport by Saturday
night before going quasi-stationary. From Sunday on through Tues -- no one has a clue where the storm center - which will have
weakened considerably, will be going. The only thing being publicly mentioned is the storm will slow down and bring 2 days
of torrential rainfall to the region. The GFS continues to show the core circulation turning around and heading back to the
coast late Monday and hints at re-intensification. This is highly speculative of course, but you will not hear any of this
discussed on TV until Sunday at the soonest, assuming it is still being forecast at all. But if you took the landfall out of the
equation -- you would have a lot of attention being paid to this. Normally, once storms recurve to the north -- that means they
have begun to go around the sub-tropical high, and are almost always picked up by the westerlies - and taken out of the area.
But, just as was the case with Ophelia, even though the storm began moving northeast away from the Florida coast, it ended up
going stationary off the Carolinas for 3 days as the ridge built back in and blocked it's movement. It had to 'wait' for the next
short wave TROF in the westerlies, to finally pick it up and carry out to sea. The below series of GFS model forecasts will
show you it's track solution for the next 5 days. This is not meant to be a 'forecast'' per se -- but it is provided in my discussions
because that's what I do -- and not what the Weather Channel or spokesman for the NHC do. They can't -- I can.
The next update will be early tonight - unless there is a major change in the storm intensity or motion.

The DFW area doged a big bullet when this sucker moved alot eastern than according to it going right over the DFW areaTHNK god for that one and everyone stay safe down the coast and northern eastern tx and LA.
So far so good - storm getting downgraded as it gets closer

Note from North Houston:
I lost power for several hours and there are a lot of trees down. Other than that I'm in good shape. I'm hoping this is the worst of it.

we made a late decision to head on up to dallas. i'm in irving preparing for what i view as a "must win" game for the cowboys.
from what i've heard so far, my town of Sour Lake got hit pretty hard (about 8 miles west of beaumont) but word from relatives, who've already returned, is that the house sustained "no damage".
this is great news as the "dollar general" and "video store" half-a-mile away are "gone".
thank you .
hope all my fellow Cowboys fans and Texans are receiving similar news. Louisiannans as well. man, it could have been SO MUCH WORSE.
may God bless all of you.

I have a lot of relatives just down the road from you in China Texas (also where I'm from) they took a beating as well but thus far the damage has not been too bad for them
Just trees down and loss of power here in pasadena,my wife and kid are trying to work there way home from east texas now.
The folks to the east caught it pretty hard,my cousin is trying to get back to lumberton to check out damage and clear out again.
Glad to hear Good News from everybody so far and looking forward to
FOOTBALL.
