Pete Hunter when he played in the slot

By this I mean that it seems that teams are starting to target him in coverage and use his aggresiveness against him.

I don't know how good this Willie Pile is, but I didn't see a whole lot of action his way after he replaced Davis and Davis also made a nice tackle on kick coverage, maybe, just maybe because he had some extra energy in him from not playing as much on D.

Pile should get a big test this week with Moss&Co.

Did I hear correctly in yesterday's broadcast that Davis and the Tuna had a verbal scrap and from that point on, Pile was the guy at FS? Think it followed one of Lloyd's TD's.

It didn't look like much of a scrap on TV...looked like Davis sitting on the bench drinking in BP's wrath quietly.

Yup....Davis got a good earful from Bill. Rightfully so...don't know what he saw on the second Lloyd TD. There was no else within 20 yards of him.

I don't think he sat the rest of the game.......but he was definately out for a series or 2.

Jake Scott was never this bad in coverage.

Yeah, parcells chewed him out and then benched him as far as FS goes. He did respond with a nice hit on ST later.

It seemed like they didnt try the deep pass again with pile in their, but i noticed on one or two plays pile was about 5 yards behind thge point where the receiver got tackled on a medium range pass, so i started to get the feeling that Pile was almost out of the game cause he was just sitting back there making sure no one went deep.

Did anyone see him make any plays, seemed like we were so afraid of the deep ball, that it was overcompensation

We do not have time for a safety project. We need someone right now. My question is, how do you attempt to solidify the passing D by signing two starter-quality CBs, but leave the FS position as a work in progress?

..you would have to think that possibly there is a trade potential somewhere for a FS for us. The fact that there is almost $5 mil open and un-used and that Davis has really been an experiment with not good results so far..

..I'm just wondering if there may not be another team ready to send somebody our way if they end up not needing the player or want to dump his cap.

I know there was mention of the Chief's FS who was signed for a big contract and has been moved to the bench by some rookie or backup. There was several mentions of it in the papers this summer in TC.

Got to think that maybe a possibility before the bi-week, something like that..either for a player or a draft pick. Guys like Price and Singleton and even Ellis come to mind as trade bait. Also A-Train.

We have stockpiled some talent right now and some of these guys are being pressed out of playing time by younger options.

Could it be that this team isn't finished being shaped yet..?

Oh..and maybe a kicker, too.

When we passed on Sharper (which I still think was a mistake) I was first in line for Dexter Jackson.

I thought he signed with the Bucs again, though.
If not, we need him here... now.

I realize Davis has a cool nickname and for some reason had a following on here ... at least until recently.

He's a marginal player who has no business starting.

It's scary to think he's the last line of defense.

We had some opportunities to sign a veteran FS but passed on them except for Izell Reese, which was obviously a mistake. I watched Lance Schulters make some plays yesterday and Darren Sharper also would have been nice to have. I realize that it was probably more of a cap decision than anything else, you can't have all that money tied up in your secondary, but neither of those two would have broken the bank and would have been an immediate upgrade over what we had/have.

I was hoping we would at least bring in Brock Marion as he had a decent season last year but his age (35) was a factor in passing on him.

Keith Davis got chewed out after Arnaz Battle's first TD on Anthony Henry. The 49ers were in a 3 Receiver Set and there were 2 Receivers on Roy Williams' side and 1 Receiver on Davis' side. For some reason, even though the Slot Receiver was Roy's responsibility, Keith Davis locked in on the Slot Receiver and ended up way over to the Defenses left, leaving Henry all alone, even though he was burnt too, but he probably thought he had deep help because if you re-look at that play, Henry turned his hips and jetted to the sideline because he thought Battle was going to run an out and he figured he had help deep so he could take a gamble.

Also, Davis was only benched during the Niner's last possession. And if you remember, Davis was playing ST and was the one that made the tackle just before the Niners got their last chance to win it.

Pile seems to actually know what hes doing, while davis is being used abused and molested because teams are targeting him.

Davis has to remain on the team, at least so I can say my alma mater has a player on the Cowboys. Go Bearkats!

Jury is still out on Pile, both of these guys are not making any plays (unless on special teams)....

This is a weakness that we all knew about...
