View Full Version : Easy way to fix FS (instead of getting SS)

Instead of trying about 50 times to convert a SS to a fake FS, Parcells should just use one of the corners and convert them to FS.

I was sincerely hoping he would do this last year, with a player like Marlin Jackson, although Jackson was chosen too high as I wanted him in the 2nd. But seriously how hard is it to get a tall guy who can run fast?

we already have Roy at SS, not every free safety we bring in has to be hard hitting. why cant we just get one who is fast? this is exactly what we need, yet Parcells seems to be absolutely clueless to this fact.

How hard would it have been last year to spend a later round pick on a 6'0+ 200+ cornerback or actual free safety so that we could have someone to play deep safety responsibilities? How painfully obvious does it have to be to Parcells before he realizes RoyW just isnt made to cover deep? How many strong safeties will we try to convert to FS before we realize how stupid that is with our current defense?

He is, Nate Jones is training at Nickle and FS.

Ya but why wasnt this planned for ahead of time? I mean i know jones has been getting some starts, but i just dont see why we had even thought about starting Davis. I know he had been great in europe, and on special teams, but it was clear we needed a safety who could handle the deep coverage responsibilities, Roy wasnt, which made him move to ss in the first place. I would love to see N Jones in hte game and see how he plays.

I have been advocating this for a long, long time. I'd rather a savy Corner who can adjust and play FS. Troy Vincent made the move for Bills last year......

Or draft a FS -

I like the prospect of Nate at safety. He has tools, but we have no idea what he is yet.

Adn the enables Davis to go full time at ST (If hes not full time yet?), where hes the only good to us

If the solution was that easy don't you think it would have been done already?

I think Parcells got a little too high on Davis before the season started, so he didnt really plan on making FS a priority. youre right though, its not as simple as it sounds, but at least BP is finally making progress with N Jones. I just wish this was somethign we addressed last year, instead of waiting til its an absolute must fix and teams take advantage of us every single game many times.

It seems that our FS problem could improve overnight if the player just played in position and knew his responsibilities.

I think that's why BP was so pissed at Davis yesterday.

We all read the articles during pre-season where BP warned Davis of "biting" and letting offenses take advantage of his aggressiveness. And that's exactly what SF did to Davis as well.

...our free safeties will now have to wait for the ball to be in the air before they are allowed to make a move. That's the only way you can avoid having someone "bite" on a route.

I don't think Nate Jones has the size to be an effective free safety.

...Pete Hunter failed experiment is so frustrating. He had prototypical size and speed, but that's one experiment we may never find out about.

I don't know but they are better bring their A pass rush game.

And getting into Moss's head and being physical and frustrating him is the best way to slow him down. You don't often stop him.

I think you could see Pile take over the position by the end of the season.

Or quicker like in the Niners game if we get beat deep again.
