Just listening to the Dan Patrick show.

The Jets called the Skins twice but they stated Ramsey is not on the market.

Jeff Fisher stated they developed Volek and don't want to part ways with him.

Folks I think it's inevitable that our team might lose a key player..............Knock on wood!!!!! Imagine how the Jets fans feel today. Wow. I almost feel sorry.

They are thrilled to death I'm sure. Its like I said in the other thread

By Tuesday, though, Jets officials had decided Testaverde offered the best opportunity for winning this season. Details of the contract he signed were not yet available. He is expected to meet with Jets coaches on Tuesday to begin reviewing the playbook.
Not that I particularly care, but I'm bored.Ya know we're not out of this yet, ya know. Vinny ya know Vinny gives us the best chance to win right now :bang2:

Well the best part of this is that no matter what happens we can't bring Vinny back if something happens to Drew. Heck with Vinny signing a 2 year deal with the Jets I hope we never have to worry about seeing him in a star again. I like Vinny, dont get me wrong. I just think he was the worst pickup at the position

I trade Ramsey if I am the Redskins. It is clear that Gibbs is not a fan of Ramsey. If Brunell gets injured, Gibbs won't have much confidence that Ramsey can lead the team. And the reality is that Washington isn't ready for a run at the Superbowl. They have some some holes on the team that can be filled with extra picks in draft. Jason Campbell is the QB of the future. Why not try to get something in exchange for Ramsey now? If they wait until the off season, the trade value for Ramsey may and probably will go down. They can pick up a servicable vet to back up Brunell the rest of this season.

Tennessee on the other hand is better off with Volek. He is their QB of the near future.

Would be another dumb move by the Skins not to trade...........especially when they are desperate.

I think Charles is referring to injury. Every team gets hit with one or two injuries each season to a key player(s). I think Dallas already has one this year in Billy Cundiff. Some may scoff or laugh at that, but I thought he was developing and I had more confidence in him than I do in Cortez.

Skins are crazy not to ship them Ramsey. Campbell is their future guy anyway. Avoid the chemistry issues with Ramsey possibly being unhappy.

I doubt anyones offering up more then a late round pick for Ramsey. They were asking what, a 3rd for S Alexander and E James. Ramseys seriously damaged goods thanks to Coach Fun and Gun

Just what he needs, another chance to strike out. Obviously football is NOT the most important thing in quinthys life. I dont think Herm Edwards would take him back after last yeasrs chain of events.

Not really sure. I thought that he was out but I haven't seen him surface so maybe he isn't. Either way, if he were still on the active roster for the Jets, this would have been a golden opportunity for him to come in and show what he could do for an exteneded period of time. Had he been able to play well, you gotta believe that somebody would have given him a second chance to start next season. Unfortunate.

That's kinda the point 19. Had he not blown it with the Jets to begin with, he would have been in perfect position to really take advantage of this opportunity.

Scouting the Jets' potential replacement QBsBy Jeremy Green

The Jets lost more than just a game Sunday. In the process of another tough defeat, they also lost two quarterbacks, with starter Chad Pennington possibly done for the season with a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder. Whether it's torn or not, it has been painfully apparent in the first few weeks of the season that Pennington's shoulder is just not right. His throws have lacked zip on the deep outs and curls, and Sunday at the Meadowlands it looked like he was playing with a lot of discomfort.

Not to be lost in the Pennington issue is the injury suffered by backup Jay Fiedler. The former Dolphins quarterback also apparently has a shoulder injury that will keep him out of this week's game, if not a lot longer.

Five days away from a big game against the Baltimore Ravens, the Jets have serious issues.

In instances like these, a team's pro personnel department becomes an extremely important asset. As director of pro personnel with the Cleveland Browns, it was my job to prepare and maintain an up-to-date emergency list, which was distributed every Friday to key front office people in case injuries arose. The list included 10-15 players at each position, ranked based on how their abilities could help us. It contained each player's name, height, weight, speed, age, medical history, most recent team he played for, contact information and his agent's name and contact information.

As the Jets coaches try to get Brooks Bollinger prepared to play this week, the personnel department is at work scouring its emergency list to find the best possible candidates to try out this week and possibly add to the roster.

The Jets filled one need with Vinny Testaverde, the most experienced QB available. He is a smart, reliable veteran who brings a lot of leadership to the table. He has played in numerous offensive systems, and of any QB the Jets could bring in, he probably would have the least trouble picking up the system. Testaverde is a big pocket passer who still has a good enough arm to make the throws he'll need to make in their system. While he has very limited mobility and his release isn't as quick as it once was, he is experienced at beating the blitz and can get the ball where it needs to go. Moreover, his leadership and the respect he would garner from veteran players give the Jets the chance to win.

The team still is expected to bring in veteran free agents Doug Johnson, Jonathan Quinn and Jesse Palmer. Here is a look at those options, as well as some other names the Jets could consider.

First options

Doug Johnson: He is a tough, competitive QB with good size and average to above-average arm strength. He is tough and will stand in and deliver the ball with defenders in his face, and he shows solid quickness in his set-up and delivery. The biggest issue with Johnson is that he doesn't consistently make good decisions. He will force the ball into traffic, and he gets rattled too easily under duress. He will struggle with touch throws, and his overall accuracy is below average. He is more of a pocket passer with limited athletic ability and mobility. While Johnson is just an average QB at best, his past starting experience may give him a leg up on other contenders.

Jonathan Quinn: For a 30-year-old veteran, he has not seen a lot of regular-season game action. He has solid size and very good arm strength, and like Testaverde and Johnson is a big pocket passer. He is not a mobile guy and struggles if he has to roll out and throw on the move, but he can be effective when he gets time in the pocket. He is smart, will go through his progressions and will generally get the ball where it is supposed to go. He does not have a quick trigger, though, and one of his big problems is the ability to beat the blitz. While he could pick up the offense quickly, the Jets may be better suited to go with a player with more game experience.

Jesse Palmer: The former New York Giants quarterback has spent the majority of his career as a No. 3. He has seen very little action, and when he did play, he struggled mightily. He has good size and average arm strength, but he needs to improve his touch on shorter underneath routes. He is not very accurate and can be late delivering the ball to the proper spot. He tends to fold under pressure and spends too much time looking at the rush instead of downfield. Of the QBs the Jets reportedly are bringing in, he may give them the least chance of winning should he be forced into action.

Worth mentioning

Quincy Carter: The last team he played for was the New York Jets. While they have a different system than the one in which he was in, new offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger's system may suit Carter better than the West Coast offense he played under with Paul Hackett. The strength of Carter is his ability to throw the ball down the field, which Heimerdinger would like to do. Of all the QBs we'll talk about, Carter is also the best athlete. His foot quickness in the pocket is excellent, and when using a QB who does not know your system, it is extremely important that he has the ability to run out of the pocket and pick up first downs to keep drives alive.

Rohan Davey: He has no starting experience in the NFL, but he is a "winner." He won in college at LSU, and he led the Berlin Thunder to the NFL Europe championship while earning the league's offensive MVP award. Davey is a good athlete with a strong arm. He needs to work on his touch and accuracy on shorter to intermediate throws. While Davey is worth mentioning with this group, he's likely unavailable. I have learned he is currently on a flight to Arizona and could be signed by the Cardinals as early as today as they look for a No. 3 quarterback to help fill the void after the injury to Kurt Warner.

Tim Couch: I was with Couch in Cleveland, and he was one of the toughest players on the team during my tenure there. He proved he can stand in the pocket and take a hit. With Couch, though, you have to check his medical history and the status of his right elbow. In Cleveland he missed a lot of practice time with that injury, and if he were to sign with the Jets, he'd need a lot of practice reps to get prepared. Being unfamiliar with the Jets' system, he would need those reps in order to learn it quickly.

Mentioned, but unlikely

Billy Volek, Tennessee Titans: He would like to be a starter, and when given opportunities with Tennessee he has played very well. It would be a serious stretch to imagine the Titans parting ways with Volek. He is one of the better backups in the league, and while McNair is the guy right now, his health is always an issue. The Titans know they'll probably need to call on Volek at some point this season. While he is not the guy in Tennessee now, Volek will get his chance should McNair retire soon, which he reportedly considered last spring.

Patrick Ramsey, Washington Redskins: According to ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli, the Jets have inquired about the disgruntled QB, but the Redskins aren't interested in a trade. The Redskins drafted rookie QB Jason Campbell in the first round last spring, but he is not ready to play right now and is best served remaining the No. 3 guy. Had the Redskins not started 2-0, this trade would be a lot more likely. Should the Redskins be in the hunt late in the season and were starter Mark Brunell to go down, Ramsey is the guy on their current roster who gives them the best chance to win. For this reason, don't look for the Redskins to move Ramsey any time in the near future.

Jeremy Green has been an NFL scout for 10 years. Most recently, he was director of pro personnel for the Cleveland Browns.

What do you believe we could get for Henson?Nothing because he isn't on the market. None of our QBs are. We need 3. The safety valve was Testaverde. That is gone. These 3 are our 3 QBs for the season barring an injury.

Vinny Signed (http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/NYJ/8899140)
Jets, Pennington dealt another setback Click here to find out more!
NFL.com wire reports

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Sept. 27, 2005) -- Chad Pennington's season is done and his future with the New York Jets in doubt as he heads for a second rotator cuff surgery.

Coach Herman Edwards said his starting quarterback is out for the rest of 2005 with a torn rotator cuff, the same injury he had repaired in February. Pennington re-injured his right shoulder Sept. 25 in a 26-20 overtime loss to Jacksonville.

Jay Fiedler, who replaced Pennington, also went down with a serious shoulder injury, and Edwards said "it could be the season, as well" for him.

Vinny Testaverde, 41, who led the Jets to the 1998 AFC title game and was the starter before Pennington replaced him in 2002, was signed, although third-stringer Brooks Bollinger will start Oct. 2 at Baltimore.

"I anticipate he will be out for the season," Edwards said of Pennington. "I've never been in the situation where you lose the No. 1 and 2 QBs in a span of seven plays."

Edwards said Testaverde will be the No. 2 quarterback, and the team planned to sign another quarterback.

An MRI exam Sept. 26 revealed the tear to Pennington's rotator cuff. Pennington and Fiedler were both in Alabama consulting with Dr. James Andrews, the noted orthopedist who performed the surgery on Pennington's shoulder earlier this year.

Edwards feels bad for Pennington.

"It is harder for me because we know all the work he has put into it," Edwards said. "The doctors had him on a schedule that got him back this season. What do you say to a guy about that?

"He'll do what he has to do to come back. But it is tough. He's a little down."

After the game, Pennington said the pain was similar to last season, when he initially hurt his shoulder.

"It's frustrating and demoralizing," Pennington said. "I worked really hard to get back to playing, putting in all the extra hours in over time, and trying to come back to be out there on the field. When something like that happens, it really tests you. It tests your willpower, your mind and your confidence."

Testaverde, who started for Dallas last season, took a physical at the Jets' training complex before he was signed.

Pennington's future might be in jeopardy after his career got off to such a promising start.

In 2002, Pennington replaced the ineffective Testaverde following a 1-3 start and led the Jets to the playoffs. Pennington led the NFL with a 104.2 passer rating and was on the fast track to revitalize a snakebitten franchise.

Then the injuries started. In 2003, he broke his wrist in the preseason and missed the first six regular-season games. Nonetheless, the Jets gave him a lucrative contract before last season started, banking their future on him.

He hurt his shoulder in November and missed three games, but returned to lead the Jets back into the playoffs. Pennington played with the rotator cuff torn, and the team revealed the extent of the injury once the season ended.

The Jets put Pennington on a fast track to be ready for the 2005 opener, even though he would be seven months removed from surgery and a stranger to the offense being installed by new coordinator Mike Heimerdinger.

Pennington looked shaky in all three games. He fumbled six times against Kansas City, and struggled mightily against Miami and Jacksonville. His balls floated, and many lacked velocity. In three games, the Jets scored 37 points on offense and Pennington was 49-for-83 for 530 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.

Edwards said on Sept. 26 the team had no regrets about starting the season with Pennington.

"We knew going in the only way he was going to get ready to play was he had to play," Edwards said. "When you're dealing with something like that, did we think he was going to be 100 percent? No. But he had to throw the ball. He wanted to do it. We thought we brought him along right."

Edwards also had no regrets about allowing Pennington to go back into the game when Fielder was hurt.

"He gave us the best chance to do what we needed to do to win the game," Edwards said. "I had reservations, but he was able to go in and do some things."

Fiedler was acquired this season to give Pennington an experienced backup. Fiedler took all the snaps during offseason training activities and he shared much of the preseason work. That won't do much good now.

Pennington and Edwards have a close relationship, and Edwards said it was too difficult to even talk to his star player Sept. 26.

"You feel bad, you really do," Edwards said. "Makes your stomach hurt. You never know why. You try to sit and try to figure out why. You can't figure out why. Just part of the game, I guess."

Yay, Vinny will no longer have a chance to sign with us.
