I know the fake punt was a boneheaded call but humor me if you will.
We fake it and fail, the 49ers get a short field and score a TD with 40 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. Let's say we punted and they put together a time consuming TD scoring drive (let's be conservative and say a drive 2 minutes longer than what it took them for the quick score). It took us until 1:51 left in the game to score the go-ahead touchdown. If the above scenario holds true we may have run out of time assuming the sequence of events occured as they did in the actual scenario.

Hold on there Cowboy. Your forgetting that bonehead 4 and 1 "fake punt" gave the Niners the momentum, put us down two scores and we had to come up with 15 points in the 4th quarter to win the game. Points vs. Time? We had an enitre quarter to play and we were on our own 32. Punt the freakin ball, Besides, our defense was finally stepping up.

Actually Parcells was bailed out due to the 9'ers fumbling on that drive. Unfortunately, Bledsoe threw a pick a couple plays later.

The niners fumbled the ball away after that fake punt. The fake punt didn't hurt us at all, but Bledsoe's int after they fumbled it did.
And it was too early in the game at that point to assume anything like that. What if we punted and they still fumbled the ball away, only this time it put us closer to our own endzone? What if we decided not to throw the ball at that point?
Too many variables. We should of blown them out of the water in the first place. People say we were lucky to win, I say the niners were lucky to get a lead in the first place.

Nevertheless, had we not faked it, and they had not fumbled, and Drew had not thrown the pick, and they had not scored.....oh never mind

It sill hurt us in the field position battle. If we punt the ball, the ensuing fumble gives us the ball in their territory, and our INT occurs in their territory as well, leaving them with 60-70 or so yards to drive for a TD instead of a 30.

Exactly right, Gordon.
We won, 2-1 and lets focus on Raiders.
Safety/Moss is a major concern. JJ may have his 200 yard break out game....
