Find something to do Wednesday July 14th. That is the worst sports day in America.

1. Football has not started yet.

2. Baseball is on break and no games are scheduled.

3. Basketball is over.

4. Hockey is over.

5. It's the middle of the week and few beat writers punch out articles.

6. No golf.

7. No tennis.

The only sporting event of any note is the Tour De France. Root on Lance Armstrong please.

They call it "Hump Day" I say we all take the advice. :D

I refuse to give them network status til they get at least five channels. :D

Marcellus Wiley is in it too.

Since the Roberts Edwards beach volleyball tragedy, I usually dread these affairs.

But this thing was filmed in May and nuthin (bad) happened.

This is a blurb from the Caymans' official tourist site.

The Challenge will divide current NFL players into two teams – offense vs. defense, competing in a variety of events. Representing the offense will be Minnesota Vikings quarterback DAUNTE CULPEPPER, Miami Dolphins quarterback AJ FEELEY, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver BRIAN FINNERAN and Tennessee Titans running back EDDIE GEORGE. They will square off against a defensive quad of Baltimore Ravens’ defensive back ED REED, Dallas Cowboys defensive end MARCELLUS WILEY, Dallas Cowboys defensive back ROY WILLIAMS and a player to be named later.

The NFL stars will be pitted in events such as a kayak race, a yacht race, a beach treasure dig, a closest-to-the-pin contest at the Hyatt Regency’s Britannia Golf Club, a snorkeling treasure hunt and a deep-sea fishing competition.

It is a trade I would not have made. I enjoy watching Shaq play. I think he's misunderstood and that makes it even more enjoyable for me.

I don't like Phil being let go. I don't dislike Rudy T, but Phil is better IMO.

My Mom is the biggest Laker fan I know. I was born in California. My parents went to school and worked in California for close to 30 years. Even though the Lakers got to the NBA finals my mom hated the team chemistry and thought it was one of the worst showings by a championship caliber team.

Shaq wanted a six year deal at the same rate. Do you really want to pay shaq 30-40 mil a year when he is 38? If we can get Dampier we will contend.

Payton
Kobe
Odom
grant
Dampier

or

Payton
Kobe
Butler
Odom
Dampier

That lineup is great defensively and all 5 will have double digit seasons offensively. With rush, luke, sasha and grant coming off the bench, our lineup is only rivaled by the spurs and wolves.

The mavs absolutely blow. Still no defense, lost their mvp for nothing, have a big ? at center and lost their sixth man of the year for a rookie who will be useless in their first year and two absolute scrubs. They got no chance of contending.

The houston rockets have no answers at pg and pf. They have the best duo in the league now, but both are soft on defense.

Utah is a little scary with their forward combination of boozer, AK47, and snyder. But they aren't good on the perimeter and don't have much offense.

The kings get worse and worse with each passing day. Webber is proven to suck in the clutch and will never be the same after his injury. Christie's defense is getting worse the older he gets, and he is their best def player.Bibby and stojacavic are a little scary, but they are useless if you commit to them and get close on defense. We can finally defend the picnroll(bibby's only weapon) now that shaq is gone.

I used to be a Celtics fan because of Havlicek. I kept hearing all about Larry Bird in college ball coming to the Celtics. When Indiana State was going to play Michigan State for the NCAA title I was watching. Before the game the anouncers were talking about 6'7" Point Guard Magic Johnson. I thought they were stupid. No way a PG was that tall.

I watched the game and Magic just captivated me. I told my Mom that I didn't care which team he went to I was going to root for them. "Even if it was the Lakers." The Lakers traded Gail Goodrich to the Jazz and took Magic. He never disappointed me.

I still believe some of the most entertaining basketball I have ever seen was the Showtime Lakers of the 80's versus the Denver Nuggets with Fat Lever, Kiki Vanderweighe, and Alex English. Those games were high octane with both teams in the 120's in scoring and sometimes even higher.

I've been a Lakers fan ever since, but to a much lesser degree. I no longer buy their merchandise. I haven't since Magic's illness. The NBA isn't as much fun for me as it used to be. I like Shaq better than any other player in the NBA.

True story, there was a vender at the Forum who was deaf. He ended up losing his job. Shaq hired him back and paid his salary out of his own pocket. The Forum tried to hire him back and Shaq refused. He simply said, no he's my employee now and you can't touch him any more. He never makes a dime on what the kid sells.

I can't see myself pulling for the Heat. The Lakers are less attractive to me after this. I am becoming less and less an NBA fan all the time. The game is a shell of the 80's with the 76ers & Dr. J, the Celtics & Bird, and scoring. Games in the 80's and lower is boring.

RW31, with Dampier, I agree we could contend..

However, there is no way we would be able to get him without giving up Odom.

Dallas and other teams have a lot more to offer than we do.

We'll have to settle for a 2nd tier center such as a Vlade Divac or Greg Ostertag which is fine with me.

BTW dampier said he wants to play in LA, he might refuse to S&T with anyone else, and GS would lose him for nothing. We could possibly trade grant and payton(though they may not want grants contract) and have kobe play PG and be able to create. Our line up would looke like

Kobe
rush
butler
odom
Dampier

or possibly

Fisher
Kobe
Butler
odom
Dampier

Both cases I like, but kobe is better at sg where he isn't forced to defend smaller faster PGs and then bring it up the court. This is assuming Fisher resigns...then again kobe would have resign too...imagine how screwed we are if he doesn't....

JBell523
07-13-2004, 10:43 AM
Dampier is going to demand a big contract too... and if you look at his #'s, he only had one good season which was last season, coincedentally his contract year.

But hell I'd still take him, he's always given Shaq trouble, and if you could give Shaq trouble, you can give Duncan/Gasol/ and all the other strong PF's/C's in the West trouble as well.

Payton is pulling another Shaq and wants to be traded as well. So this means Fisher will get his wish to be the starting PG, and I'm pretty confident he'll be back in a Lakers uniform. Fisher plays with heart, he's one of my favorite players so I would gladly welcome him back.

This line-up can contend:

C-Dampier
PF-Odom
SF-Butler
SG-Kobe
PG-Fisher

That's bein very optimistic though. 3/5 of that line-up is still questionable. Will Kobe re-sign? Can we somehow get Dampier? Will Fish remain a Laker?

A lotta question marks man...

But notice the date of the article...Feb 22

The tournament ended a month ago so, if the buzz my friend reported to me is true, he started to tank in December or January

Im sure endorsements and promotions and other stuff now supplements his income, but the 2.5 mil he won is gone--that was the buzz @ the tournament according to my friend

Again, I cant confirm this, but, my friend swears to it

Guys like danny planted the seeds a while back. Now those seeds have borne full fruit. The DMN has reaped what it allowed to be sown.

The good news is that training camp and the regular season will pump some life back into the DMN, but it's not going to be enough, imo. It's a damn shame, really. When I joined there back in November of 2000, that place was the best site I had ever visited for NFL/Cowboys news and discussion. Now...?

It's a damn shame.

I bet you were unbearable :D when the Nick Saban and the Tigers made a run at the National Championship.

You are one of the fans I thought about when the split Championship debate raged on. It must have been a good year with the Tigers and Cowboys having good seasons.Honestly, I thought that I would never be more prouder than after I witness LSU win five national championships in baseball. I was wrong. My heart almost burst with more pride than I had ever experienced before.

Well, almost as much pride as I felt that last fateful Sunday in January 1993.
Anyway the mods BP. Hostile and JT do a great job of running this forum. Reality is an awesome owner. This forum has developed exponentially since I left DMN.I'll take your word for it, but I know that any forum with BP as a moderator has got to be a first-rate site. I've always had great respect for BP... even after we once got into a little snit over the Bible way back when [remember that one, BP? ;) ].
