While driving home from work a while ago, I was listening to Galloway and Company on ESPN. Their guest host was none other than Brad Scham. One of the questions Randy Galloway asked him, was which Cowboy team would he choose if he had to win one game, the Super Bowl. He also asked him which coach he would have coach that 1 Super Bowl.
I wanted to ask you guys the same couple of question. Let me know, and tell me why you would choose the Team and the Coach.

The 1993 Dallas Cowboys, and I'm taking their coach too. :D
1993 cowboys...coach is tough, but bill and landry might have benn a lil too tough for the stars....so johnson...

I'm also taking the 1993 Cowboys, but I'm going with Parcells. He's the best coach there is when playing with a lead, and the 93 Boys had no problem scoring early and often...

Yeah, I think you have to go with the 1993 Cowboys. And Jimmy Johnson HC with Campo as DC. That team was so talented, with such depth at virtually every position, all playing in their prime.

Easy the 1977 Cowboys under Tom Landry. The team was #1 in offense and #1 in defense. None of the 90's Cowboy teams could say that. And how you could top the defensive line of Harvey Martin, Jethro Pugh, Randy White and Ed "Too Tall" Jones?

Mike, Brad Scham said he would take the 92 Squad and after that he said the 77 Squad would be next.
Funny, in a book I am reading, Roger Staubach said he felt the 1979 Squad was the best in Cowboy History.

I'd go with the '93 team and Johnson as coach.

For One game? You have to get over dominance in an era but pick one team to win a clutch game?
I'm not ready to vote but I'd want Roger Staubach as my quarterback..........

and so do the players in size and speed. I weigh almost what some lineman did in the 50s and 60s. (no I'm not fat).
I'd take the Cleveland Browns for the 50's hands down. They hit the NFL from their old league running...literally. Paul Brown was the coach that has influenced NFL football the most and continues to do so after death with the legacy of his coaches that stretches all the way to the present if you count pupil of pupil of Brown. You pick your favorite Brown team.
For the 60s you have to go with Green Bay IMO. I'd pick the 65 team or the 66 one with Lombardi.
For the 70s I have to go with the 78 Steelers although it kills me to write this. Noll is a great coach who picked like 5 HOFs with his first 35 or so draft picks. This is over great Dallas teams in 71 and 77 with Landry and the undefeated Fins team and Shula.
I have to go with that one 85 Bears team coached by Ditka. If I had to pick a coach of the decade I'd have to go with Walsh. Excuse so I can go and throw up.
At last the 90s and I pick the Boys 92-95. The 94 team was better than SF. Pick one of those teams against anyone ever and I think they win. That was just one of those games we win 7 times out of 10 on their turf. Johnson would be my coach on motivation. Not sure who I'd pick for just plain coaching ability. Probably Parcells.
For this decade I need to think more on it.

- Mike G.Personally, I would take the '78 Cowboys, put Johnson on the sidelines and ask for a rematch with the Steelers. Then I would whisper in Johnson ear, "Take Jackie out and let Billy Joe run that pass route. It'll be a sure TD!"
Man, remembering the old days can be a real [censored] sometimes.

For this decade I need to think more on it. In this decade thus far, I would pick the '02 Buccaneers. They had the best balance of offense and defense of any other NFL team in this century, imo. And their head coach was an excellent offensive tactician. He still is.

I think at the start of the game I'd send a scrub in and tell him to take Lynn Swann out.

This is an easy one for me.
The Greatest team ever assembled - The 1989 Cowboys (as long as it is the Skins)
Coach - Dave Campo
Thank you, that tis all :)

As far as this decade, I would probably say 2003 New England. Good coaching, good defense, and had nice balance on both sides of the ball.
Ripping off 12 Straight wins is pretty impressive as well.

I'll take the '77 offering along with that obscure coach that was at the helm...
I remember that season well... no one doubted the SB victory in the sports world... sure Denver was played up to make it seem good... but no one doubted who would win...
'93 Cowboys are a VERY close second...
All in all I pick the '93 'boys as the greatest team ever... but for just one game... I take the '77 team and the greatness of the man in the hat...

After thinking all evening, gimme the '77 team with JJ or BP as coach it doesn't matter. We should have won 4 rings in the 70's.

You are correct in your assumption in the current decade... but the Cowboys and 'niners (yes that hurts) would have man-handled that Pats team (with the exception of Salisbury's opinion)... but you already know that...
This decade is shaping up as dissappointing so far...

Yes, I know Mr. Salsbury says that the 2003 Patriots could beat any cowboys team in the 90s. He and Irvin got into a heated argument about it. His main weapon was the amazing winning streak the Pats went on.
I just dont see anyway that any of the 90s Super Bowl teams could lose to the Pats of the past year. The Pats were not #1 statistically in any catergory this year. They were balanced, but you HAVE to bring at least a #1-3 Defense and a #1-3 Offense to even talk about beating the Cowboys during the Super Bowl years in the 90s.

Really? I think the '02 bucs are one of the worst Super Bowl teams ever.Well, I have to respect your opinion, but, imo, Tampa was a sure Super Bowl pick for three/four years. They simply didn't have the offensive mindset and players to take them to the title game. Enter Gruden, Jurevicius, McCardell, Dilger, etc., onto the 2002 squad and it was a done deal. I'm even on record [over at the DMN] telling an Eagles fan [who went by the title of "TheTruth"] several times during that season that the Eagles would not beat the Bucs by the time they would face each other in the NFC Championship game. He thought I was nuts because the Eagles had owned the Bucs before that season.
The rest is history. Unfortunately, the Bucs got too old [especially on the defensive side] before they had the opportunity to consistently dominate with an improved offense. Still, as far as that particular team is concerned, I would pick them over the '00 Ravens and '01 & '03 Patriots. Just my take on it.

Exactly... and let me add the Bills of those 4 years to beating that Pats team...
I had actually forgotten just how good those Cowboy teams were til I bought pirate DVD's off of eBay... It was a thing of beauty... and sheer dominance...
Philosophy:
Offense: We are gonna line up... run and pass as we please and kick your ace... stop us...
Defense: Just try it... it ain't gonna happen...

If we would have only had "the assasin" for two games then Lynn Swann wouldn't be my most hated sports figure.

What is so impressive about the Boys was the competition they manhandled in the Super Bowl. You want to take a guess at how many Hall of Famers that Bills team will eventually have. I count 4 right off the top of my head. Smith, Kelly, Thomas, and Reed. I know for a couple of years, they sent no less than 7-8 players to the Pro Bowl.
There is no way the Boys would lose!!!!

I don't know about one of the worst but I do agree that they were very beatable. Any team that could run the ball with consistancy could beat that Bucs squad. Teams like our 90s Cowboys, maybe the old Redskins teams, Parcells Giants teams and the 85 Bears would have beaten the Bucs 02 squad, IMO. They were very beatable. Just had to be able to execute the running game.

I've gotta go with that bunch in '77. If we were any other team the NFL historians would already have inducted 12 to 15 HOF's from that squad.
But even if the teams were even, I think Staubach was the best ever. No offense to Aikman.

I'd go with the 1977 Cowboys. The depth of the league at the time was pretty amazing, with high quality teams in Oakland, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Los Angeles Rams, and the Denver Broncos that year
But those '93 Boys would just bludgeon people to death. Those were the days.....

79 with Jimmy as the coach, because of his aggressiveness, and I wish we could have had Emmitt, but TD was great.

So far, the new century belongs to the NE Patriots.
The buc team benefitted from facing no team with a very good running game. The team with the best run game they faced in the playoffs was the niners.
