I am more optimistic now than when I wrote this back in training camp. This is going to be a special season! We just slayed the first sea serpent and spirits are high. The doubters are quited.

2005 Season in Move – Change in the wind

2005 Season in Move – Change in the wind

It’s starting to settle in Camp Oxnard. This is a new team, its year 3 for Team Parcells. Not only are 3rd year players getting that long hard look, so is coach Parcells. Fretting long and hard he took charge. Coaching changes abound. Units not producing and coaches full of excuses sent packing. Defense was not making plays, undersized and overrated and key players on down side of career? 4-3 Scrapped and the 3-4 was installed. No excuses, no complaining as this was a Parcells mandate.

As we have now pushed off from shore on this season and the sea coast is no longer in view. It is real apparent the 3-4 defense will be a success ultimately. More players will be in the box, more deceptions. More ways to attack, confuse and rattle a QB. When was the last time our D has done that in a decade without max blitzes that left the underside of our bellies routinely gutted?

In is a new class of playmakers. They are bigger, stronger and faster than those who have let the Cowboy star down of recent memory. There are new names like Ware, Spears, Canty, Rat, Burnett, Shanle, Coleman that will be building blocks.

Who will be the biggest winner in the 3-4 move? Amazingly overlooked in all this will be Drew Bledsoe. He has had his issues of late figuring out the Bellicheck and Parcells strain 3-4. Now he gets daily reps attacking, reacting to this scheme. He must Harkin back to his early days with Parcells who made the same transition a decade ago. This will make our Oline better to think on the fly and adapt as a unit. Something Rivera will continue to impart on the next generation of Parcells guys like Peterman, Rogers, Johnson.

Bledsoe running an offense with weapons is a recipe for success. He’s won two AFC Championship games so far. With weapons like Witten, Jones, Glenn, Key and a cohesive Line with leadership in Rivera, the sky is bright, and the wind is at our backs. Optimism abounds all that this will be the 2005 season of seasons. For the first time in a long time I feel this journey has a chance. We have a Captain, we have the crew and the ship. Mother nature must smile on us but maybe she already showed her hand on the Spears injury.

As one sizes up the season there is a lot of reason for hope. Heck I’d even say expectations within the Dallas organization must be brimming with confidence. Since 1995 era there has not been a team better prepared to make it to the ultimate destination. Playing football on a Sunday evening on February 5th 2006. We will be prepared that day for the best the AFC can offer.

I’ve left my calendar open.

Nors, why do you repeatedly toot you're own horn? You do know that doing this consistently proves that you care only about being right.

As long as this team beats the Giants at home, I agree with you. While a victory over the Eagles all feels good, if we're 3-3 with two home division losses on Monday morning of next week, we'll all still be talking about whether or not this is really a playoff team.

I hope I'm right on this one - our team playing next year. Move on if you don't like the post.

Yes - we need to rattle off a few victories here. I like our chances to harrass Eli......

And I want to see Giants stop us.

Nors I usually sit back and just read your stuff. Most of it I enjoy. I do. Every board needs a Nors on it to keep it interesting/entretaining. Have to let you know young man......We used a lot of nickle yesterday and more 4-3.

I liked it when I read it the first time.....ok.http://cowboyszone.com/forums/images/icons/icon11.gif

I agree Nors, the 4-3 worked to perfection yesterday. Glover and Ellis have 2.5 sacks each so far. On a pace to 8-9 sacks each and reeking havoc.

Good to see the younguns...Canty, Spears, Radcliff and Wear come in on the D-line to spell our vets with good production too.

I could almost see the 4-2-5 being a variation of the 4-3, with Roy being the the swingman 4-2-5 db and 4-3-4 LB when he comes down in the box. I would actually make that my base defense with the current personnel we have now.

Well its another week in the log. We went into a very dangerous current. Storms swirl and we took on the Giants. We lost our best runner but hstill have depth, a depth that will be tested as one of our Sailers is out with a broken stick.

In a storm that looked meek - we ended up in a life and depth battle with the Giants of the sea. Our Captain Bledsoe took the helm and rode the storm out. WE eeked a victory out. Now 4-2 on the season of change - still on course.

February 5th - Destination.

Stay tuned - we just found out today we lost on of our more experienced sailers to the sea's. Time for a kid to step up and take his place.

4-2 - So far all is on track. Looking at the skies - should be clear sailing for a few weeks - rest will do this team good as we approach the halfway mark of this journey.

Projected landfall - February of next year. Its going to take a yeomans coaching effort to keep the troops up and focused.

Good news is we screened the Chicken Littles - none on this ship.

We hit a coral reef - taking on water and the crew in each others face. Captain made some bad calls and the rank is pissed. Major looses in a spot where there should have been none. The M word is coming up. Can thE captain keep this on track? First crack in the armour.....

We are now halfway home. 5-3

Had a great day today and on pace to destination. This is a great season and enjoying the heck out of it so far!

Symbolically we sign Marco Columbo

Fitting add to the team with roots back to the first one that made this journey.

Symbolic indeed - this season is spot on destination to a cold place in February in a land that is artificially warm!!!!!

Another long two weeks on the sea.

Lots of training and preparing. We are at halfway mark and its storm season coming. Spirits are high and although the team didn't play today - favorable currents are pushing them ahead of schedule.

One mate swore he saw an eagle today, wounded and flying ragged.

Falcon's had been chartered in these waters but never Eagles. The Captain muttered - thats a dead Eagle.

As ominous this journey seemed preseason. The ship and crew are in great shape.

February 5th? its going to be a challenge to get there. But on the map.

Another big win, a win that shed tears and an unlikely win. The Captain lost his brother and buried him yesterday. The crew was quite determined and intent on winning the battle for the captain they have grown to love.

They were in sea's that few had ever navigated or charted. A bad place that the ol Sailers of old dubbed "The Vet of Madness"

We had a chance to again keep ahead of schedule and it did not start off well. The enemy was ready, it was hostile water and for 57 consecutive minutes we were near death.

But Bledsoe took the offense and drove us to a quick TD. Culminating in a TD catch by the guy the mates affectionately called she.

It was then victory was in our grasp. But herto we usually fold in journeys of old. But a player rose high, made a play and wrested victory from the jaws of defeat. It was a defining moment in this journey on the big stage. Roy was the Man!

Destination - its still on the horizon and far off. But getting closer. There is excitement in the air as all sense that they are part of something big. The Captain cried today and shed a tear knowing he lost kin but also has a special team.

As stated in initial post - Wind is behind us and mother nature is still smiling down on us. Enjoy the journey and the destination will take care of itself.

On a side note - we pulled in a drowned bird, almost unheard of this far to sea. It was indeed an Eagle. Might add tastier than I thought......not bad with hot sauce.

Well - we are a week away from knowing if we have a chance. Its been a tough month with many setbacks. Some had started to lose faith we would make it to land.

Last Saturday we ran dead into a Nor'easter. Ship crew fought back valiently and survived a storm that should have ended the voyage.

Yet today the sun is shining and the crew is upbeat. The Captain even smiled today. At Dinner last night he proclaimed we should hit landfall within the week! A very joyous and motivating speech.

Ended with a challenge. That then gets us to the next challenge. A month long journey to the city proclaimed the city of steel by Norsman who had made this journey thru Ice and Snow decades ago - or as lore said.

As rocky as this ride has been, its still alive. Hope is in the air still!
Amazing 5 months into this journey, a cardiac trip with the final chapter yet written.
