Let me ask a question. Does anybody else remember comments made by
Roy Williams before he was drafted when he said he only wanted to play in the NFL for 5 years? I have never heard anything else from him to that effect, but I remember him saying it at the time.

Hopefully he will be a Cowboy for 12 years or more.

Yeah I remember hearing/reading that he said that, but I never read/heard a direct quote from him saying it.

Honestly, who can blame him if he does retire after 5 years? He'll be set for life financially. Plus, the hits he puts on people don't only punish the hitee, it punishes him too. Chances are you won't play long delivering that kind of punishment.

I hope he stays a Cowboy for a long time too, but if his heart isn't in it, then I'd rather he retire.

It is funny... Emmitt keeps playing well past his prime and he gets criticized for it, yet looking at Roy now people (myself included) want him to be a cowboy for a long long time. Personally, if the guy still has the fire and wants to play then I'm all for it. If the guy has lost that fire and wants to retire, I'm all for that too. They got to do what their heart tells them to do, not what we want them to do.

WALKED away from the game at 28. Earl Campbell can't walk today.

Quality of life issue - that said I hope Roy plays more than 3 seasons for us or we royally screwed up in drafting him. I hope the question was asked at least of Roy pre draft.

I thought I heard last year that RW said he was only going to play 8 seasons.

I remember that comment being made also. But I am with Nors on this one. Maybe watching and playing with Woody will rub off on him.

I agree with you, Rack. He has to follow his heart. I am all for Emmitt playing as long as he wants to too. It's his life. I do however want him to sign a one-day contract with the Boys so he can retire a Cowboy when he does decide to hang 'em up.

That's comforting to hear that he wants to play more than 5 seasons.

As Emmitt can attest - it's very difficult to just walk away.

That was before he got married and had a wife nagging him to bring home more money.
