View Full Version : Owens could be out 2-3 weeks (Mort)

Saw this on another Website......this is not confirmed.
Apparently Mort was on the radio saying Owens could be out 2-3 weeks with a spained ankle. This could huge for us in week 10 in Philthy. If true, I hope we give Henry an extra week to let his groin totally heal.
That flush sound.....the Eagles season (If true)!!!!

Not a rumor: He just posted it again during his weekly chat.

http://espn-att.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Mortensen: (11:06 AM ET ) Good morning... I just reported that Terrell Owens has a sprained ankle and has told the team he doubts he can play this week vs. Redskins.... let's get started.

Wonderful, Owens is the only player in my NFL football watching lifetime that I have not felt sorry for when injured.
just curious - is it the same ankle he injured last season?
i cant say i am happy that even TO is injured...just doesnt feel right to
think that way for me......
however, since its an ankle sprain i hope its a "high" ankle sprain because
we all know how long those things take to heal !!!

Dye - yep, see article link above.
I'm sure he will be in no hurry back this time given what went on regarding his contract. In fact, since he is almost certainly going to leave the Eagles after this season he probably doesn't mind them tanking.

So.... is this how TO gets his "revenge" on the Eagles' front office???
He's been crystal clear that if he had to do it over again, he wouldn't have played while injured in the Super Bowl... and given the severity of that ankle injury, the Eagles simply can't question him if he says it hurts now...
But it's awfully convenient that he's going to sit out during the most crucial 2-3 game stretch of the Eagles' season... three straight divisional games.
I think TO might be playing mind games with the Eagles.

That's the first thing I thought of, too, Danny... Owens didn't look hurt in the Broncos game. I wonder if this is just his way of sitting out a frustrating season.

Awesome. TO has been too good for my fantasy opponents. hopefully mcnabb now plays even worse. much much worse. like o td's 5 int's bad. then hopefully inthe game we play, we make McNabb quit the season and get surgery.

In giving AH another weeks rest to recover, I would agree. Although, we beat them with TO, so its not like we are worried if he plays or not. I also doubt BP will think that if TO is out then we can rest AH. We will be coming off a bye and our division is stacked right now. He shouldn't just start resting players when we haven't secured anything yet.

TO is a physical freak and fitness nut -- 2-3 weeks means he'll be back against us. I hate the guy but you have to respect his SB performance. I want to see us shut him down.

If he has a bad ankle he is nowhere near as dangerous- pretty much becomes average. And with no real #2 WR the Philthies are in big trouble. They already do not have much of a running game, and McFlabb is hobbled, so the bad news keeps coming.
THE WINDOW IS CLOSING!!!!

Aaron (Charlotte, NC): Is the T.O. situation similar to the John Abraham situation last year in the playoffs? Is he scared of injuring his ankle worse followed by the Eagles cutting him to avoid his huge bonus and he becomes a free agent with a bum ankle?
http://espn-att.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Mortensen: (11:21 AM ET ) You said that. I didn't. (wink).
John (D.C.): Mort: Granted, the Eagles look bad right now. But, why everyone so down? giants haven't won on the road, all cowboys div games are on road. Eagles get two cracks at the giants, and a puff schedule with gb, arizona, st. louis on the dockett. They have started 4-3 in the past.
http://espn-att.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Mortensen: (11:35 AM ET ) Well stated. If you're an eagles fan, that's one way to look at it. But the division is much better than it's been in recent years.
Kevin (DC): I kind of always thought Skip Bayless was a blowhard about T.O. being a malcontent who slowly bleeds his team, but it seems more and more like T.O.'s out to prove him right this year. Is that why Owens picked the division games to beg out of?
http://espn-att.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Chris Mortensen: (11:50 AM ET ) I don't know that he's begged out of them. If he's injured, he's injured...and he has shown strong recuperative powers in the past. But in light of his recent comments that he wouldn't have played in the Super Bowl had he know what he knows now, it does raise this discussion.

After what happened with Irvin (not that it was a the players of now fault) but just the way the fans were and cheering. I will never feel soory for an injured Eagle, Eagle players that is, not the bird.

He was good in the SB, but he was CLEARLY not 100% or even close to it. He had one big play where the CB fell down, other then that he was only a little better then average. He did not have the speed or quickness that has made him such a threat.

just listening to philly sports radio.
TO "told" the eagles he may be unavailable for this week and next monday night because his ankle is hurting so bad.
Apparently it is TO declaring he may not be able to play, there is no official word from the eagles team stating he is out or may be out as of yet. and im pretty sure it is the same ankle he injured last year.

Maybe this is his way of getting back at them for his contract issues...

I am much more concerned with Henry's status then TO....
But you have to love watching the team from Filthy lose...

What's lost in all this: the Eagles recently opened up talks with Brian Westbrook regarding a new contract for him. I think it's pretty obvious that this pissed TO off, thus the phantom injury.
Maybe this is his way of getting back at them for his contract issues...
most definitely.....he is saying, ok you disrespected me when i did everything i could to make it back to SB and took a big risk. Well, now im gonna play it safe and take care of myself cause you arent looking out for my best interest. And now you (the eagles) will see the difference i make and you will regret the decision not to revisit contract talks and understimate my contribution to the team.
I dont know if he will actually go through with this, or how bad the injury is. Maybe it really is one that requires some rest, but at any rate him coming out and publicly declaring to the eagles that he may be unavailable is definitely sticking it to them.
Normally you would hear an anouncement from the team regarding a players injury and status for upcoming games, but it seems TO is telling the team how it is.

9 catches for 122 yards -- his long was 36 - even without the play you mention he still had a very good game against a strong D with a borderline brilliant gameplan. He also drew a couple of defensive penalties that would have been key -- if his teammates didn't turn the ball over to kill those drives.
Average? He looked like Philly's best player.

easily their best player, while mcflabb choked and puked his way to a 10 minute "2 minute drill" to lose the game.

TO will have almost no effect on the dallas game in that if we lose it would be from missed assignments and blown coverage any WR can beat (ala santana moss) you with. It's highly unlikely he gets 5-6 drive continuing first downs anyways. he won't setup Philly's run game. We're not mismatched to the Eagles anymore and in regards to offense ours actually is more balanced and explosive.

TO's decline in receptions is cause mcnabb thorws it at the ground 3 feet short of him on a quick slant. he is open a lot, mcnabb doesnt get the ball anywhere near him.
And you see that he is getting more and more frustrated with this if you watch the games

Take out the one play and he is 8 for 86 yds. that is pretty sad for a WR. Anyone claiming that he was anywhere near 100% is smoking something pretty strong.

I didn't catch the game, so I can't comment on him showing any ill effects of an ankle injury during the game. But, ESPN showed him leaving the locker room after the game and you could see him limping as he walked. However, he was walking unassisted while pulling his luggage. So, I'm surprised he's pulling himself out of the Redskins game. Well...maybe I'm not surprised.

[QUOTE=Canadian BoyzFan If true, I hope we give Henry an extra week to let his groin totally heal.[/QUOTE]
Exactly my first thought when I read the title of this post. The thought of not having Henry against Owens scared the crap out of me. That extra week may end up being crucial for his recovery. Those kinds of injuries take weeks, not days, to heal from.
Oh and as a sidenote, anyone questioning the amount of time Julius has been out has no clue how serious an ankle sprain, especially a high ankle sprain, can be. They can take months to fully recover from. If anyone wants to question my expertise on that, I'm a physical therapist finishing up my doctorate who has suffered numerous ankle sprains including a high ankle sprain. Julius proved his toughness last year when he came back. He's just had some bad luck.

Folks, T.O. may be the southbound end of a northbound horse but he's not stupid. I suspect that he is unwilling to risk much for a team he is unhappy with, but I don't doubt the injury. He has shown himself this year to be among the very best wideouts in the game. If he avoids a serious injury he will look to make bigger bucks next year with somebody. I think he is hurt and is not willing to "take one for the team" when he feels underappreciated. The only way he kills the goose laying the golden eggs is either by getting injured or looking like he is deliberately dogging it. I just can't see him faking it at this point.
He is unloved in Philly by team, management, and fans so what incentive does he have to take a chance with an injury? I may not like him much but his logic seems reasonable to me.

TO told the team he's not going to play this week or next. He certainly won't play this week against the Redskins, and I'd highly doubt he'll play against the Cowboys. He knows he's out on the street after this year and doesn't want to play unless he's 100%.
By the way, whatever happened to AJM? He'd be fun to kick around these days.. :)
