View Full Version : Why we'll miss Cortez

I wouldn't trust Cortez to make any meaningful FG, but his kickoffs were themselves almost worth a roster spot. In our first game vs. the Eagles we enjoyed good field position most of the game, but Cortez kicking off for the Eagles means we'll more than likely be starting drives at our own 20-30 yard line. A longer field means fewer scoring opportunities.
I still think we'll win fairly easily, I'm just saying we will miss Cortez' kickoff abilities, and the rookie kicker we brought in isn't guaranteed by any means to be an improvement on FGs. This game may very well come down to our ability to convert FGs, so i'll pray today that our kicker can step up to the challenge tomorrow night.

The only reason we will miss Cortez is LA wont have anyone to put in his place after a missed FG attempt. I think Allen can live without that, so I dont think we will miss him much at all. With our D, it dont matter if they start at the 15 or the 35.

The Eagles will be improved with their kickoffs but they still have to cover them and stop Tyson and that remains to be seen.
I know Suisham KOs didn't look that impressive, but his net ended up close to what it was with Cortez. He may show more improvement as the season goes on and he might already be better than Cortez with his hang time since his returns are for less yardage. The coverage guys are doing a great job.

I say put LA in on all PAT and FG tries and have him remind Cortez how lucky he is to be alive.

This game with the Eagles is gonna be a very close game IMO. Somehow I think Bill Parcells will be giving Jose Cortez a game ball for the 1st time.
