View Full Version : Tonight: Cowboys first offensive play will be ?
I wanted to make a thread where everyone can make a guess at what the cowboys first play on offense will be.
Here's mine...
Quick pass to Price, lined up as a slot receiver for 7-8 yards. It will be a slant or hook.

Well, the smart first play would be a 15-20 yard pass to Glenn or Price just to set a "here we go again" tone and put their blitz-crazy defense on their heals right from the start.

No doubt it will be up the middle with Julius.

I second that....try to start this game out exactly how the tempo was in the first game...

I think they'll go with a lot of short passes early on anticipating a lot of run blitzes from the Eagles.
1st Play: Look for Witten for a short pop-pass over the middle in the area vacated by Trotter.

LOL...you mean when Trotter blows up Al Johnson...however he will fall down giving Bledsoe enough time to complete his 15 yarder...:laugh1:

Where do we have the ball? That would help to determine what you call. If you open up stuck deep in a hole then you play if safe and allow our defense to turn field position around. My hope is we lose the coin toss and start off on defense this way if we are leading at halftime we have a chance to get the ball back 1st and put a bigger lead on them. If you’re trailing you have a chance to cut the lead with your 1st possession in the 2nd half.

Play action pass to Witten out of the back field in the flat. Possibly Polite if he is in the game.

It should be a run. The Eagles can't stop the run at all this season. Their levees are broken and hopefully Julius Jones, MBIII and Thompson can open the flood gates.

Its just for fun Dooms, like playing a football pool or something, just a guess at what the play might be.

The Cowboys will pound the ball, to break the Eagles. I say first play inside run. Bledsoe will only pass 26 times tonight, and Cowboys run the ball 36 times.

Eagle secondary is really suspect, lots of passing if we have any field position...

Just for fun well then I call a TD on the 1st play. LOL. I think Dallas opens up with play action. Jones will be returning to the starting lineup and I think Philly will be looking for him so I would play action off of Jones look deep if it is there put it up if not check down to Key. I want Dallas to be aggressive but more important I want our guys to play smart.

We need to attack their secondary all game long, just like the first game. Their secondary is pretty poor.
Handoff to Jones, laterall back flea flicker...
PP 80 yard TD !

In the 1st game our 1st 4 possession all started around mid-field or in Philly Territory and that played a big part in Dallas opening up the offense, you can afford to be more aggressive when you have the field position to do so

You attack a team's weakness. Simple as that.
The Eagles' weakness is their secondary. They have no pass rush, we need to attack the secondary which will in turn open up the running game.

I think Dallas will pass but I don't think Dallas truns into a pass happy team aginst Philly. Dallas is not going to take big chances when deep in our own territory not with the defense that we have.

laterall to witten in the slot, who fakes a pass downfield, flips it back to bledsoe, touchdown pass to a wide open glen.

We're going to throw on our first offensive play...Maybe short to intermediate in length..
I think we come out and pass right off to try and set the offensive pace.

A reverse to Keyshawn and he races 72 yards for the score.
OK seriously...Julius Jones to the left for 2 yards.

I'm not saying we need to go pass happy...just that we need to take advantage of their weakness. We need to make sure we keep them from blitzing all night long, too.

I don't disagree with that but even Parcells had said after the 1st meeting that it is easier to be aggressive when you have great field position to do so. That is why I mentioned in the 1st meeting Dallas 1st 4 possession with the ball were at mid field or in Philly territory. I think Dallas will take their shots at Philly and I want us to be aggressive but smart.

Dave Shore on ESPN Dallas said he talked to someone on the team, and our first scripted plays on offense are heavily weighted to throwing and attacking, just like in the first game.
Also, that we'll blitz McNabb early and try to get some shots in on his ribs, even if means giving up a long pass or two.
FWIW. ;)

Look for the boys to do the opposite of what they did last meeting. They will pound the ball all game long. Witten will also have a big game, since they will be covering Glenn deep with safety help. This will be an old-fashioned smash-mouth NFC East game. JJ will be over 100, and Marion III will be around 75 yards. It won't be a blowout though, just a thorough dominant smash-mouth game. Our 1st play will be a run between the tackles, and our 2nd play will be a run off-tackle. Then we'll hit Witten/Key over the middle for a modest gain. If we don't turn it over (ie snap snaffu), we'll control the clock, and they'll rollover by the third quarter.

Depending on the coin toss you could actually be on defense. Believe the COwboys will take "tails."
If your first defensive play contains a blitz package to bring pressure on D-Nabb, you may get a Brian Westbrook coming up underneath for some serious breakaway yardage.
By the time you get the ball, we should have either scored either a TD or a field goal.
If your first offensive play is a run play, and philly jams it up for little or no gain; than that's what you should expect all night. I realy don't expect to see too Much running plays from the shotgun position due to the noise my fellow fans will generate. Therefore, third and short may be a problem for the Cowboys -- in fact third and anything may present problems.
You may have more success with your passing game. But if your offense
starts out with a pass play, the Eagles will Not be fooled by the Likes of Terry Glenn.
So it's going to be a real interesting dogfight -- but dogfight it will be!

I think most teams expect a first down pass...there's nothing they'd love better than to sack your QB on first down, but they'll come from inside with the DE's closing down the line, thinking it will be a short drop and quick pass.
I'd open up with a toss sweep and let JJ pick his hole for a nice positive pickup, which would then lead to a pass on 2nd down for the first down.
Avoiding a 3 and out on the first possession is huge. They gave up big plays to Glenn last time, so this time their CBs will play softer, which is easier to run on....besides, when on the road, you have to run the football, and right now, Philly is vulnerable to the running game.

Predictions on first play on offense.

I'd like to see a 3 step drop, slant to Keyshawn over the middle.
Probably see a handoff to JJ off tackle.
