Nope, he made his career in San Diego, but I never knew he played for Dallas, and caught a SB TD no less.
Cue "Man lands on moon" posts

"He finished his career with the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL in 1970 and 1971. When Alworth retired, he held records for the most consecutive games with a reception, 96, and the most games with 200 or more yards on receptions, 5. Both records have since been broken, but Alworth is still the only receiver to average more than 100 yards a game in 3 consecutive seasons, 1964 through 1966."

From what I've heard, he was one of the great NFL players, not just in skill but in class.

Yes. He joined the team when Landry began to change the face of the team to include more vets....ultimately, the balance between youth and vets lead to the first super bowl victory.
Alworth was nicknamed "Bambi" because of his leaping abilities. He might have been the best WR I've ever seen.

Also one of our posters here has a great site as well. I think it's Mike Greens site. I lost the bookmark though. I'll try to find it.

I still have nightmares about that drop. It was the first time I heard my dad explode into a tirade of 4 letter words that would make most sailors blush. I was watching the game on a 12 inch black and white TV. The rabbit ears were fixed just perfectly (with a little tin foil to improve the reception of course). I saw the ball hit his chest and I knew we had won the game. My dad came up out of his chair and had just allowed the "Y" out of his mouth to yell "YES!" But it didn't happen. The ball came out and left a black mark on my young and tender emotional state that still lingers to this day.
Thanks for bringing this back up.:banghead:

Another bad memory that still haunts me even today....... :banghead:
Though I'm too young to have seen Alworth play when it mattered, I've seen highlights and games on tape of him with the Cowboys and he was very good.
It must have been something to see him and Bob Hayes play together those years.
Here's an historical site about the the best team in history with year-by-year stats and rosters.

I remember that, it was really weird seeing him in a Dallas uniform.
I think John Jefferson went to camp with Dallas one season near the end of his career. I seem to remember him on the sidelines in uniform - it must of been during a pre-season game.

Type in "dallas cowboys" and scroll through the pages. Of course, typing "Lance Alworth" is faster.

And a lot classier than the other Lance who played WR for the Cowboys way back when... I'm talkin' about Rentzel here... you remember, the guy who was married to gorgeous actress/dancer, yet still felt the need to expose himself to a little girl... I still remember the signs in the stands, "Keep It In Your Pants, Lance"...
Ol' Bambi was a bit past his prime when he played for the Boys, but he was still a graceful athlete, smooth and fluid...
