Interesting note in ESPN article that this was the lowest that a RB has been chosen in many years--indicating that it wasnt a stellar crop. That being said:
!. as a physical runner- Jackson has some mileage--Jones is relatively fresh in running back terms

2.quality RB's seem to be found in any round--a Denver Bronco trend--look at the fourth round last year

3.Jackson may have peaked--what you see now is what you get--Jones may be on the rise

4. Kiper- in his analysis of the second round said that the Cowboys got tremendous value at this point

5. Clayton is the only one that seems to be so negative on the trade down. But, if Baltimore had made the trade, I am betting that the response would be the opposite--indicating foresight and planning

6. Question? will Jacksons physical style give the same results in the NFL as in college or will he be a 3.3 yd per carry - 4-5 year career type that wears out of the league

7. So many teams with RB needs passed over him. I definitely thought the Eagles or Broncos would take him--even the Bucs--all good personnel people

this might be more of an indication of what the running back class was thougth of than anything

Great post Dirt. Although I was initially gleeful that we were about to select Jackson and pretty angry when we didn't, after thinking about it rationally and without emotion, I feel that we made off like a bandit.

Anytime you get more with less is a coup. First of all we get two offensive linemen that are champions and played at a high level. Next we get a running back with good vision, good balance, sub 4.5 speed, and little wear and tear. And lastly we get an additional 1st round pick. Dam, after you think about it there is really nothing we should be complaining about. All our offensive needs have been addressed with upgrades and hopefully we can get some value today on the defensive side of the ball.

Thank God for the Tuna, I know he knows what to do. Fans are very irrational by nature, especially when they get attached to a specific player but ultimately the scouting department and the coaching staff without a doubt knows what’s best for the cowboys. I am truly happy with the draft thus far and I hope this trend continues today.
