Did any one watch Coach Mora´s after game interview last night? He spoke very fast, but I think I understood that in regards to a defensive lineman, "Dallas had picked him from our practice squad"

It was late at night, so I do not know if I understood correctly. Any info?

Alinen, Klaus 90 DE 6-6 256 24 R None

Glymph, Junior 93 DE 6-5 270 25 2 Carson-Newman

Savage, Josh 73 DE 6-4 276 25 2 Utah

These are the only Dlinemen listed on the Falcons practice squad. Does any name ring a bell?

I heard it too, scrambled to see if I could get the name, failed.
It seems an odd move for us to make, though. Mora was a bit loopy last night, perhaps he messed up the name of the team?

Thanks.

If I had to make a guess, it could be Glymph based on the sound, but, it was 30 minutes after twelve, so take it would a huge grain of salt.

Cowboys sign DE from Atlanta practice squad

03:58 PM CST on Tuesday, December 13, 2005
By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News

IRVING – After going two games with 52 players, the Cowboys filled their last roster spot Tuesday by picking up defensive end Junior Glymph off Atlanta’s practice squad.

Glymph, 6-5 and 270 pounds, was signed through next season.

Glymph played in three games with the Falcons this season. He had five tackles before being moved to the practice squad Nov. 28. In three games last season, he had four tackles and a sack.

The opening on the roster was created when Dallas recently cut receiver Peerless Price.

actually coleman better watch out. he's been playing less and less lately. if this guy can play special teams, coleman's can be the next in line at the roster shurning spot.

This guy was signed "through next year"? That's a heck of a try-out. I can't imagine that, with all the new guys we have on our DL, we would use a roster spot on this guy. Why not try out an OL or a safety? I don't understand. Parcells is too enamored with finding the next great sleeper DL.

Good question.

We must need another swingman to replace what we lost in Ratliff.

well if he can play he's worth a look. you only have to carry him on your roster for the remainder of the season, cost nothing much and if he has some talent you either find a place for him by moving someone else next camp or trade him. if he has nothing, then you have'nt lost nothing but a few game checks

Lacks prototypical bulk, gets engulfed at the point of attack and is vulnerable to wearing down over the course of a game. Doesn't play with leverage, doesn't have great lower body strength and gets driven off the ball. Can't get through traffic quickly and needs to learn to use hands to protect body. Doesn't show great upper body strength at the point of attack and takes too long to shed blocks. Appears to tire at times and effort is inconsistent. Played at a small school and there is some concern about ability to compete at this level. Lacks elite initial quickness and isn't fast enough to consistently turn the corner.

That's a lot of doesn'ts.

But if he "did" he wouldn't be sitting on someone's PS.

Looks like BP's collecting linebackers again.

It reminded me of this Saturday Night Live moment:

Roseanne Rosannadanna: Thanks, alot, Jane. A guy from Forlayden, New Jersey writes in and says, "Dear Roseanne Rosannadanna, Last Thursday I quit smoking. Now I'm depressed, my face broke out, I'm nauseas, I'm constipated, my cheeks swell, my gums are bleeding, my sinuses are clogged, I got heart burn, and I got gas. What should I do?"

Roseanne Rosannadanna: Well, you sound like a real attractive guy.

Seems a bit small at only 270lbs for a 3-4 DE. No mention of speed or quickness in his write-up. Must be a STs player.

You beat me to it...at that weight it has to be for OLB to back up Ware as the weakside rusher.

Maybe he's a better athlete the Ogbogu, and has potential there...just guessing though. At 270...no way is he playing as a 3-4 DE...eaten alive.

Yes, there is - he does not have any: "Lacks elite initial quickness and isn't fast enough to consistently turn the corner." But if strength is his main problem, weight warrior BP will have him picking up Kleenex in next to no time flat.

Hey, I haven't been on the "Verba" bandwagon (is there one?). But if we're just churning the bottom of the roster looking for potential how about an offensive player. I thought Parcells had already stated that there wasn't much left at the LB position because they've been looking. Well, maybe they saw something in this guy.

It still seems a bit odd to me. Special teams maybe...but doing what?

CactusCowboy

I am thinking Parcells believes with another off season for our rookies and a few additions, we can have a top 3 D next year, a Raven type D with a better Offense.

Doubt he sees the field this year. Usually around this time of the year teams use their open roster spots for their own PS guys -- because that means you keep their rights another year. We did the same but were able to steal someone that looked better to us.

Not really much to the move at all. It is just about getting in some more bodies. We had a spot and we looked around for the best PS player we could fill the spot with. I'm sure if there was a CB or RB out there that was better we would have signed him instead.

This isn't about position at all.

like Merriman? like half of the Raider OLBs?

there are some OLBs in the league heavier and some as tall. not many but I can't see BP interested in getting smaller on the defensive front rather than having bigger LBs

I remember Parcells saying, that his ideal DE would be about 6-5 280. I'm thinking he wants Glymph to start Jurasek's training program now, so that he can add some bulk/muscle by TC next year.

His 27 sacks in 25 starts during college is one thing to his credit.

I think his height and weight from the Falcons roster is inflated. He was listed at 6'3" 260 when he signed as a UDFA with the Packers. He might be playing heavy to fit into the 4-3. He had 11 sacks and 13.5 TFL's his final year at Carson Newman in 12 games
