Amidst the gloom, thought I'd bring up some good news.
With his sack against the Rams, Ware finished the year with 8 sacks!
When is the last time we had a rookie collect that many sacks? Maybe some of you trivia experts can let me know.
Maybe I'm forgetting someone obvious, but I can't think of anyone, and I think you might have to go back to the players who started when they didn't collect the sack stat before you find a rookie who punished QBs as much as Ware.

TBC, didn't catch the game. Did he beat Pace for his sack or was it against another Ram lineman?

I cannot wait for next year just to watch this guy play with a years worth of off season conditioning under his belt! What a great draft pick for us!!

He didn't really beat anyone, just ran Martin down on a roll out.
He didn't really beat anyone, just ran Martin down on a roll out.He put alex barron on his arse. Absolutely embarrassed him. He also had like 4 or 5 pressures, he was in Martins face all day.

Like others have written, I think when it comes down to Merriman vs. Ware, I think we got the better guy in the long run, they got the better guy in the short run.

If Ware didn't have to play the run or drop in to coverage like Merriman he'd be going to Hawaii also. I'm happy with our choice.

Ware is like a fine wine he will improve with age.

He spent half the season learning a new position. Now he needs to learn some new moves. He has the one thing you can't teach - speed. Add it all up, next year he could really be something. Great selection.

How many sacks and tackles did Merriman get this year...Was it that much better than Ware ?
Looks like Ware dissappeared for the middle of the season...Hot at the beginning and the end...What happened in the middle of the year ?

On his sack, he knocked Alex Barron to the ground (rather than speed-rushing around him, which was nice to see), then caught Martin scrambling to the sideline.
There was also another play when he drove Orlando Pace six yards into the pocket before laying a hit on Martin and the commentators raved about how not very many guys could take Orlando Pace all the way back to the QB.

Ware was better in every category except stats and merriman beat him by 2, unless you wanna count pass deflections where ware had 1 and merriman had 4
ware had 58 tackles(47 solo, 11 assisted)
merriman had 57(43 solo, 14 assisted)

More forced fumbles and STF ? Is STF stops for loss ?
If STF is stops for loss, then Ware had 18 plays for negative yards (8 sacks, 10 stops for loss) vs 10 sacks and 5 stops for loss...15 negative plays.
I really like Ware and think he has a great future for us.

Honestly we could continue to beat this horse to death. The bottom line is that both teams got good players and Ware has given us play making at that position that we haven't had since Haley.

And don't forget Cowboys played basic vanilla 3-4 scheme in this first year. Next year Parcells will add more complicated systems, etc. He already said in TC and later in season that he can't add to much in first year cause it would overload them, but next year is different. That's why I want Parcells back. If he doesn't we will regress and who knows what system a new HC brings it; we might even get stuck with Zimmer as HC.

the only thing that bothers me is the age factor. why do we keep drafting the oldest rookies out there? other than that, i'm happy with who we got.

The reason people like ESPN are drooling over Merriman is because he made some big hits and was responsible for sending Priest Holmes home early for the season and almost putting an end to his career. That IMO is the only reason he made the pro bowl. But the truth is that Ware has been equally as useful to the Cowboys, and I think both will become feared players as the years go on. I will admit that Merriman does have a meaner streak than Ware does, but I saw flashes in Ware last night that has me excited for next year. I think Ware was more effective when he was able to rotate from the left side to the right side like he did last night. Hopefully he will see more of that next year. And did anyone else see Ware pile drive Faulk into the turf last night? That was amazing!
But as far as the Merriman/Ware competitions goes, I think both teams got an impact player so there really is nothing to argue about on either side.

I wonder what the stat for "Pressures" is for both guys... I know that Ware had alot of pressures that helped get Ellis Sacks

Ware's development was the biggest bright spot in our season. We have a disruptive player for years to come.

Merriman and Ware will be good players in the league for years to come. Based on their performance this year both teams came up big. It'll be fun watching the comparisons as they progress through their careers. I'm doubting that either team will disappointed with their guy.

I was impressed with that play too, until I rewound the tape, and Orlando Pace was NOT the one that Ware manhandled to get to the QB. It's a shame that they have such idiotic announcers at ESPN Sunday Night.

I think Theisman said that it may not have been Pace. Maguire is just terrible. I didn't like him when he worked for NBC and don't like him now.
