View Full Version : Bledsoe or Culpepper
Who would you rather see QB the Dallas Cowboys in 2006?
This assumes Culpepper is ready to go in training camp, as the Vikes claim he will be.

Culpepper has a very serious knee injury. He may very well never play to the level he once did and absent Randy Moss, that isn't saying much.

Considering that Culpepper's average season is comparable to Drew's career best effort, if he's healthy it's an easy choice to me.

Also understand Vikes unhappy that Culpepper insists on rehabbing in Florida and not with the team so how much do they know about his rehab ethic. And Culpepper doesn't have a track record w/o Moss until 05, and we all know how he playing in 05 before injury. Vikes sure aren't missing him.

It's alot like comparing garbage to sewer.
Injury or no, Daunte was really never a good QB-he was just lucky to have someone like Moss bail him out early on. However-sans him, his own weaknesses was exposed pretty badly.

If the Vikings released him (they won't) and Daunte agrees to a 60% pay cut (he won't) and if Culpepper wasn't severly injured (he is) it would be a straight up comparison.
Re-frame the question fairly and see who bites:
Would you give up our first rounder plus 6m in cap space for Culpepper on the hope that he's 100% healthy next year
or
Drew Bledsoe plus a stud first round OT plus 6m in extra cap space to sign more players?

I wouldn't even do that, and I started this poll to see who was interested.
I'm saying if Culpepper was released, which is rumored to be a possibility.

If Culpepper was outright released then maybe Dallas could pick him up and have both on the team. A starter and a legitimate back up at least for one season. Just kidding because I know that won't happen. Dallas will sign Steve McNair to be the legitimate back up once Tennessee releases him before is expected $25 million dollar bonus.

If Culpepper was healthy, I'd take him any day over Bledsoe at this point in their careers.
However, I seriously doubt that Minny is interested in moving him...why would they be? He's their franchise QB....Brad Johnson was solid but unspectacular in his stint, but Johnson is also ancient history.

Not so sure about that. I always wondered how Daunte would do without playmaker and security blanket Randy Moss.
If this season is any hint the answer is not good. In fact he was leading the league in INT's with 12 through only 7 games and had been sacked an amazing 31 times in those games behind a better OL than ours. The Vikings were 2-5 in those games with the only wins against sad sack NO and GB. The proof that Daunte was the problem is the major improvement the team made when Brad Johnson took over. And Bledsoe is better than BJ IMO.

If Daunte were in his prime even I would have to go with him - did you guys know he is #3 all time in career passer rating? I was shocked....

Ok, so I was open minded enough. Now maybe the bashers will observe that 83.7, Drew's season rating, would put him in the top 20 of all time if it were his career average (which sadly is 77.3, due mainly to 1993-1995 when he failed to ever have more TDs than INTs).

IF the cowboys could add Culpepper as a Free Agent from being released AND IF Moss Gets his wish and is granted the opportunity to go some where else via a trade, then MAYBE we could trade for him....That way we could POSSIBLY both have Moss and Culpepper back at it again doing it big in big D... or maybe this is just a huge dream of mine...

Wow you guys are dumber than I thought. 58% of you would take bledsoe over culpepper? Im not dumping on bledsoe he had a decent season and all but this is culpepper were talking about. The guy who almost won MVP last year if it wasnt for mannings amazing season. He threw a 70% completion ratio that year and dont give me this moss bs "Its because he had moss on the team". Wake up call in case you guys didnt realize he was injured for some games that year...
Culpepper!

Thank you, finally a voice of reason. in 2004 Moss played in 13 games, and did not record a reception in two of those games. He had 49 receptions and 13 tds.
Culpepper completed 379 of 548 passes (69%) and 39 tds. Now someone tell me how he only plays well when he has Moss?

Turnover prone Culpepper? He cant do it without Moss. The guy puts up huge numbers, but has never won.
Next question, can he even play anymore.

Do you even know how many turnovers bledsoe has contributed to this season?

I take it you didnt know so here are the numbers. 17 Picks, 17 Fumbles, 8 Fumbles Lost, Setting a personal high in Fumbles and 25 total turnovers. thats not turnover prone?

That's the question. All three ligaments in the knee are a big deal, but players come back from these injuries nowadays.
IF HE'S RELEASED, I think you have to give him a look. He's younger than Bledsoe, and he's better IMO.

Drew Bledsoe never had Randy Moss to throw to. Culpepper has not proven himself without Randy Moss. If the ball was anywhere near Moss he caught it. How did Culpepper does this season without Moss? More ints than touchdowns. Don't use the exuse that he didn't have an oline, because Bledsoe's line sux balls

Major improvement? Maybe part of that was that some of the injured players that the Vikings had to start the season came back to the team. Also Koren Robinson was able to be fit into the offense once he learned the playbook. Johnson didn't suddenly start lighting up the place. Just like you said that the Vikings only beat NO and GB when Culpepper was the QB, they only beat Detroit(twice), Green Bay, Cleveland and St. Louis when Johnson was the QB. They also beat the Giants, but that wasn't because of the offense. They had a kickoff return for a TD, a punt return for a TD and a interception return for a TD in that game. Then the beat the Bears in the final game and that game was meaningless to the Bears.
I like Brad Johnson and think he is a good back up, but he didn't magically resurrect the Vikings. Culpepper is good. Having Moss helps, but it wasn't the only reason that Culpepper has been able to put up some very good numbers in his career. I would love for Culpepper to be a Cowboy. I don't see it happening and I also have two reservations. He was badly injured. How long would take to fully heal? What is going to become of the love boat incident?

Culpepper if he gets rid of that pizza toss drill he does after every good play. JK Bledsoe all day!
Where was the choice for neither ?
